I personally haven't used much shelfies tbh but I did once use sticky bloodworm and did ok on them, I've also got a mate who's used nothing but sticky krill for 4 or 5 years and he catches more than his fair share

Have to agree, changed a few times over the years and used most the big brands and although all have caught me fish, Sticky Krill seems to be very consistent, regardless of where i take it. Will always opt for frozen but more than happy to have shelf life in the car as spare if needed. Also happily use it in the winter, done well for me last year on a different lake on very short sessions.

Baitworks Atlantic Heat and Royal Marine are both very good shelf life's but a lot softer than the frozen.
I've been using Trent Baits Freshwater Shrimp of late and love it.

Short-term preserved will last up to a month . . . I reckon frozen straight into a vac seal bag and stored in a fridge would be about the same
Failing the above they also do a shelf-life . . .or you could simply air-dry a batch of frozen (for rehydration) / salt cure some hookers?

The only Carl I fished with used to arrange the odd Sandy social, he was a decent fella, lost contact years ago, so maybe coincidence .
I have always loved a plum bait though. CCMoore used to roll me a plum Live System that was amazing and I had a plum and snails bait before that which was even better. I probably said they were fishmeals to be all secret squirrel 😂😂

Best is subjective. I think the best shelfie currently is PB Baits Royal Red, because I know exactly what’s in it and it’s got a lot of stupidly expensive stuff in it. However it is expensive and so some people wouldn’t consider it the best if they factor price into the equation. Others might say they’d only use half as much compared to cheaper bulk type baits. It’s such a personal thing. Best to some people might be purely on catch rate alone, in which case it would be difficult to argue with Sticky’s Krill or Manilla. For some people best might be a blend of value for money and catch rate, so maybe Handcraft or Baitworks.
Baits such a personal thing I honestly think the answer to these questions is use what you like and have confidence in. But if you want a devastating bait that’s self life. Buy a tin of sweetcorn.

I've been really impressed with DNA shelflife since moving over from handcraft shelflife.
I switched because skipjack didn't do great last winter and I didn't want to have to change for each season.
I've only used DNA stuff glugged in liquid food which I think has helped with my catch rate.
I've used both switch and bug to great effect and this will be my first winter on them.
