They are incredibly light for thier size. Used mine for 2 weeks in France and really like them.
My only gripe was that the quick drag was too quick and most of what I would use would all be between 2-3 clicks of the reel.
Swapped some washers for felt ones and much prefer them
One has started to make a bit of noise, saw one other user of them mentioning the same - will be opening up to check the grease soon

The Okuma's are seemingly highly rated. Other than people mentioning how smooth they are, what are the other pro's and what, if any are the cons?

I used ultegra ci4's for a few years and last year got a set of obsidians and imo the obsidians are far superior to the ci4's

Went through this a few months ago, I was using Shimano power Aeros and the only issue was line behind the spool
After speaking to angling direct in Newark ( the salesman used to work for future fishing as their reel specialist and service )
He talked me through the obsidians and showed me the cut away demo model
Very impressed and very well made
Also looked at the emblems and the cross cast but was advised both need servicing regular and a new centre shaft was £105 and the same in both. He said they use a lot of daiwa spares when servicing
They price matched the obsidians at £128 each
Having now used them for 6 months i cannot recommend them highly enough
They are VERY similar to the power Aeros ( the spools are interchangeable )
They are a lot smoother than the Aeros and the clutch is spot on
Well worth a look at

Have to agree Penn Tidal or Vantage XT are very smooth

I used to have a Shimano XTD/XTE, but now I'm lucky enough to have the Daiwa 23 Emblem 35. The Shimanos are just rubbish compared to what they used to be.
The 23 Emblem 35 is definitely suitable for long distances. It comes with a spare spool with a line capacity of 530 metres/0.35, standard spool is 0,35 mm – 300 m

Ive just ordered a set of the 23 35 emblems. Tackle tavern had a pre loved, but brand new set, on their used section for £300. Ill let you know what i think when they arrive

When I say distance work, I mean 100 yards. The 5500's I have are a great reel, just too small and dont feel balanced on my rods.
I have seen the 45 scw reel in person and have to say they are huge! The 35 is a smaller version of the 45 and a more suitable size

I had the Daiwa, sold them after 6 months, really didn't like them. I have the Shimanos and they're great, I replaced the Daiwas with them. That being said, if I was buying new now I would almost certainly go for the Okuma Obsidians and save c.£50 a reel as having had a play eith one, it feels as good quality as the Shimano at a far lower price (and users give them great reviews)

Which daiwa reels are those? You'll want 45s not 35s for distance work whichever they are. The whiskers are good, I have them myself. The emblems are good too, just less ball bearings and a non folding handle the difference between them and the whiskers.

You may also want to look at the Penn Vantage XT 7000 reels. I swapped from the Shimano Ci4 14000 reels and have never looked back. The Penn are indestructible and after 2 years still as super smooth as when I bought them. And reasonably priced at £185 each too.

Looking to purchase a new set of reels. Currently using Shimano 5500xtd with upgraded washers for quicker drag. I'm looking to buy something a bit bigger to help with fishing at distance.
I have narrowed it down to the following:
Shimano 14000 XTE
Okuma Obsidians
Diawa 23 35 SCW QD
Any feedback and pros and cons of all would be mega help. Cheers lads
