I use one similar to Andy. I prefer the shield to come close up the side of my kettle so more of the heat is used rather than just escaping. You can buy them in all sorts of heights and lengths, I'd buy longer for bigger pans and just fold back on itself slightly when not using such a big pan.

I use one like "Andyman" recommends, probably had it over 20 years and cannot find a fault with it so I recommend it too.

But, I also made my own out of some thin aluminium sheet, which I cut into 3 sections and then joined them together with 4 hinges ( 2 per join, top and bottom) pop rivetted. I made this specially to fit the shape and size of a "Ridgemonkey".

My prototype was made from a roadsign that I "found", but it weighed a ton even though it was only small, but it was sturdy. Dammed if i know what roadsigns are made from, but its tough stuff and very rigid and weatherproof. Many years ago, I even roofed my garden shed with a big one that I "found" and even patched up my wheel barrow with when it rusted and holes appeared.

I have one of these and its done well so far, big enough for a briefcase style stove, pins into the ground if needed and self supports on a table, also cheap.

Does anyone know of an effective free standing windshield that is suitable for a Bulin size stove?.

It needs to be free standing as being used off ground on a table.

Have some form of stability in a breeze.

It can be bigger, as often use 2 stoves at the same time.
