Second hand gas fridge will solve all your problems. Sausages, bacon, mince etc will all have long enough dates for a week. A 3.5kg gas bottle will easily run it all week. Will also keep butter, packet meats or as said several takeaway boxes with pre cooked meals taken frozen will last the week in the fridge.

I always used to take a a few tins or Fray Bentos stewed steak. Add some onion and a curry mix or, my preferred choice, was to take jars of mixed veg (Potatoe, carrots beans, etc) and just heat them up together as a great steak casserole. Tins of hot dog sausages and some Big soups and you will never go hungry..lol

Beef inflation.... our fave fillet steaks from Tesco have gone from 8 quid at end of last year to £11.20. Went up a pound in one week 2 weeks ago.

did this many times in the 90's a week on my own in france on public waters or the river. Lived on pasta, tuna, crackers, jam, packet rice, a very boring diet but it was the only way to do it without leaving the tackle which i was not prepared to do

If the weather's hot you'll need more than 16 lts of water. Unless you're taking cans of drink and the water is just for cooking.

12v coolbox for perishables, 200w solar panel and a decent powerbank, take more water than you think you'll need. Things like wraps last longer than bread, tins of stewed steak/ curry for the back end of the trip, tins of fruit

I can highly recommend Heinz Big Soaps 😋 I have them all the time, and if you really want a filling meal, 2 tins and a packet of ramen noodles (the soft ones vacuum packed) stirred in, quick to cook and very filling 👊🏻

I appreciate the suggestions,
I didn't think of corned beef.
And yes water 💦, at least 16 litres minimum.

Cheers

Have you got space for 2 coolboxes? If you have put some ice and fresh/frozen food in it and not touch it until later in the week?

I would also consider taking extra food that is easy to cook

Rice, pasta, etc with some sauces, even tinned soup etc as if your fresh food should start to spoil/smell awful least you have something to eat 👍

to quite a few of your comments.

Our 1st trip in your scenario, never mind someone nicking the gear we got so badly lost around Paris using paper maps we probably orbited the inner periphique at least 3 times. We got to the lake so traumatised we didn't leave it all week, in case we couldn't find our way back. Grub was instant noodles, water, lake water through a ceramic filter, and a bottle of whisky. Fond memories

Could you buy or borrow another cool box, then fill it with frozen raw foods (mince, chopped onion, burgers, chicken, sausages, loaf of bread, etc) and don't open until later in your trip?

Plus eggs, pot noodles/Maggi/instant Mac n cheese you'd be golden 👍

If you've got a decent coolbox there really is no need to go for awful tinned food. If packed properly and not constantly opened you can keep stuff frozen for a good 5 days, then you've still got a day to eat whatever you take, and then just have a pasta dish with a pot of dolmio or similar for the last day

I think it's going to be Tinned grub!

I might take a ginster pasty, they last for 20 years plus.
If I wrap them in foil, put amongst the Bbq coals I can reheat it, tinned spuds, carrots and gravy I think I'll survive 😂

Thanks for the suggestions

Cheers

How about a 12v or gas powered cool box and a battery if going 12v?

Else pre make some meals and freeze them to eek out a few extra days?

Frozen meals from the supermarket like the rice stir fry things? I've had some good ones from L eclerc

Hiking type meal packs where you just add boiling water have tons of options?

I can't really help with the tinned options as don't really do them, but the french supermarkets do loads of shelf life meals worth looking at.

Will you be anywhere near civilisation where you may be able to get a delivery? Or maybe rough area you'll be and see if anyone here fishing in the area could drop a shop off to you or something?

Hi,

On my own, no bailiff, not a soul,

I have a cool box that's going to be full if frozen water around my fresh meat.
I'll cook curry & Chilli the first few days before they heat affects my meat.
I think it's tinned stuff to live on the rest of the week from Wednesday.

Any recommendations for tinned meals, I've seen M&S do tinned chicken chasseur but I've never eaten them.
I might get one & try it but I'm not a fan of tinned curry's etc.

I lived on Tinned meals once & it was a horrible, my particles looked more appealing

Bit more info mate, is it lake exclusive, does it have a bailiff, might they be able to sort something?
Years ago in the same position I'd probably not have gone midweek, but given all those trips nowadays I would. That lake had locals that would use the track to run and collect mushrooms/asparagus etc but it was way out of town.

Edit, if you could take frozen your local pet shop could probably give you a decent poly box for nowt, few 2tlr frozen pop bottles, if you leave it unopened and somewhere out of the sun it should last until Tuesday.

Hi,
I'm going to France shortly on my own (Billy no mates)

I will do a food shop (Chicken, mince fruit & Veg) at the SuperU on Saturday morning to last me the week.
I will Bivvy up & I have no access to electricity, only my gas stoves to cook up.

As I am going to a lake on my own, middle of nowhere I'm hesitant to go shopping again midweek & leave my kit unattended for an hour, it probably would be OK but I dare not risk it.

The last three or four days it's tinned vegetables etc so what's folks suggestions or recommendations food wise for the last 4 days? (I'm sorted Saturday to Tuesday with fresh)

Cheers

Mike
