In reply to Post #136 Sounds like a great weekend.
I see mixed reports on those mag doors on here. We use a camping tent with them on, got to say they work really well, and that's on a 7' door.

In reply to Post #135 Well it did rain but no thunderstorms.
A thoroughly enjoyable weekend. Fished with a buddy that i met at the lake a while back. Caught a cat and a common. Loads of food cooked up on the Cadac.
My new Trakker RS100 with the magnetic mozzie mesh was a god send as the little blighters were out in force!!

In reply to Post #129 For me personally was not very good. I did put an update in the Foreign Venues section as someone asked how we got on.
But, im out Friday to Sunday, weather looks spanking down here in Surrey. First trip for the new Cadac with plenty of bbq food

In reply to Post #128 How did the French Trip go? I saw a report on a lake I Used to fish from around that time, just silly, kind of hoping it was you
Going to be very warm for a couple of days starting tomorrow in Cheshire 29deg+, gotta be warmer down south
In reply to Post #126 Weather was fantastic. Topped up me tan ready for France in 2 weeks! Bit chilly at night tho.
It's all very scary getting medium temperatures in early Summer, I'm going to create my own carbon capture machine in the back yard. Plant a tree.
In reply to Post #125 Bet it was nice to be out though
The bream were there........
Another week of barmy temps coming, already had a warning from United Utilities
Hope you guys took your suncream!
In reply to Post #122 No doubt the bream will be on the feed when i get there!
In reply to Post #121 Indeed. To be honest, there seems to be so many fish being caught all over the place (albeit not by me ) at the moment that I don't think the wind is having much of an effect anymore.
In reply to Post #120 Looking nice during the day but bit chilly in the evenings.
They have stopped spawning on the lakes I can fish as well.
In reply to Post #119 It's the same wind that's been around for weeks, showing no signs of abating.
Typical. I'm out Friday to Sunday and got a north easterly wind.
In reply to Post #117 Thanks mate with what’s being going on for me in last 5 months I needed to get out and have a break
In reply to Post #116 Good luck mate 👍
Out now till hopefully Friday and they haven’t spawned as far as I know from some locals
In reply to Post #113 It happens year in, year out.
Weather has turned here, but water temp is still above 18c.
They've stopped spawning on the two lakes I walked round today, but I think the wind has played a big part in that. The surface chop is strong.
Definitely going to be a 2nd spawning window when the weather allows.
In reply to Post #109 I think you'll be fine mate, we've got a cooler spell coming in, maybe a touch of ground frost.
Loads of places in Cheshire shut as Carp spawning. Personally I find the cooler spell a bit worrying, likely to lead to stop some fish spawning until it warns up again, whether they'll stop full stop and ger their heads down agai n or keep swimming round together/stay near spawning areas is another matter!
In reply to Post #110 Was watching the bream at my syndicate spawning in the edge last weekend. It was some sight watching the carp move in shortly after and hoover up all the eggs
One of my club lakes has just closed as the carp are spawning, in kent.
In reply to Post #108 The bream are spawning on my club lake at moment I don't think the carp will be far behind. The lakes not done a fish this week.
I’m off next week so hopefully they may have calmed down as I’m intending to do Tuesday to Friday on the canal
Looks like I am painting my fence this weekend!!!
Seems that the majority of the lakes i can fish are now spawning so postponed my trip until next weekend.
Was at white acres Cornwall last week and they where at it then
Somebody said to me as I was pulling of a lake can’t believe there spawning we won’t catch a carp here
Just looked at him and said can’t belive you set up on top of spawning fish and just walked off
Bream are spawning on the lake i am fishing fri - sun so just hope the carp wont be. At least it means i wont catch a bream!!
Mad init.. never known them spawn this early.. Warm weather or not.. probably be having another go on some waters later in the year aswell..
In reply to Post #102 Now seeing lots of lakes closed on social media because of spawning in the past few hours, right across the country.
Definitely has happened early this year!
I took this about 5am this morning..
In reply to Post #101 Blue ones

They have started spawning here this morning.
Water temp has been +18c for a couple of days or more.

In reply to Post #93 Merely the tip of the iceberg!
All setup and had a chance to test the new Deeper with my boat. Found two nice spots so set my traps. 12 acre lake, 38 swans and i was fishing in 3 foot of water so the swans were constantly diving over my baited areas and picking up my hookbait. Every time i reeled in, my pop-ups were half eaten.
10 p.m. i was attached to a very large cat for a few mins until the line snapped. 6 months old 16lb Fox Excocet. 20 mins later, I am landing a 20lb'ish cat. Well, didnt actually land it as i hate them but just flipped the hook in the net and let it go.
Saturday afternoon................Check my post below regarding exploding barrow wheel.
Saturday evening im into another massive cat but this time i have managed to wipe out the guy in the next swim down to me. I literally could not stop the thing. Spat the hook and managed to sort the lines out.
Moorhen running under my lines and setting off my alarms. This went on for 2 days.
Sunday morning...................Check my post below regarding exploding barrow wheel.
Also, somehow, one of the support poles had come away from the pegging point on my bivvy but managed to MacGyver it when i got home using one of the spare washers for my Triporter!
And when i did finally mnage to drag my barrow back to the car, my key wouldnt work. Luckily, i always take a spare so all was ok in the end.
Wont be going back there!
In reply to Post #92 you caught, be grateful
20 deg this weekend, it just keeps giving. Dropping off next week a bit, read in the papers there
might be a 'sting' around the bank hol but weather apps not showing it!
Horrendous weekend. Caught a flippin catfish.
Was sat in t-shirt, shorts and navitas yesterday. Easterly wind is a bit harsh today.
I checked the water temperature yesterday, 13.4c and that's on water with plenty of shade. The fish are enjoying the rays and it won't be long before they've got jiggy jiggy on their minds in lots of waters.
In reply to Post #88 Yeh, looking a bit chilly in the evenings so have packed my longjohns as well! Like to be outside till last light before i get in me bag and watch a film.

In reply to Post #87
I just wish that easterly would bugger off! Couple of overnight frosts maybe next few days, your budgie in its smugglers might be more turtle like

20 degrees tomorrow. Just chucked me bronzer in me bag. Not ready for camo speedos just yet tho.

In reply to Post #84 Mother nature. Can't make her mind up!

In reply to Post #83 Yeh, had plenty of infections, x-rays, steroids, inhalers, sputum tests etc. Doctors put it down to Covid jabs, never tested positive but had long Covid for 9 months. Good thing is when I need to book docs appointment, I get preferential treatment as COPD is regarded as life threatening. Luckily I'm not at that stage yet. Ex smoker as well. Also means I have to go easy on the Spiced Rum!
And I really need to test my new Deeper as had it for months and not used it yet!
In reply to Post #83 I woke up to a frozen brolly and mats this morning. Now sat in glorious sunshine as I start to pack away. Weather can't make up its mind at the moment!!
In reply to Post #82 You're getting out mate, that's the important thing
The father in law is advanced stage copd now, he kept getting repeat lung infections that weren't controlled by the 'normal' anti biotics. The Dr's did a sputum culture and found the particular bacteria was found in damp soils and water...
Weather wise there may well be a Sting in the tail. Reading this am of 2 potential storms each with the potential to pull cold air down from Scandinavia, at the mo mostly affecting the rhs of the country, said it could go as far as Manchester...let's hope not, wouldn't be good for the wildlife!
In reply to Post #81 Just takes a little longer to push my barrow to a swim nowadays and get setup. But i did buy a smaller barrow recently so might just have to start making 2 trips!
In reply to Post #80 Sorry to hear that mate. I used to take the father in law with me, he can't go anymore due to copd Enjoy it when you do get out
In reply to Post #79 Doing my first 48hrs of the year next weekend. Unfortunately, due to having COPD the cold weather at night destroys me so i cant usually start my weekenders until April and have to do with days only until then.

In reply to Post #77 Now you've done it. It'll be snowing by the end of the week.
The weather has done no good for my fishing, but at least now I'm blanking in comfort.
I know were not out of the woods until the end of April but it's looking like a early start this year to the better weather. Double figures here until the end of March, not too shabby
15 degrees? I feel sorry for the gingers.
15 degrees in Surrey tomorrow but a little rain. Just stuck the brolly in the car.
Need to test the new chair and barrow
In reply to Post #73 Ooh, very nice. No doubt my niece in Roemond will be posting lovely sunny pics of her dog walks on fb
Overcast & windy here, pleasant though!

Just back from drowning a bit of bait, they were boshing, felt like joining them. Going to wear a funny hat tomorrow, 21 degrees in holland.

Glorious out there today 😎

In reply to Post #69 Same here, that wind, even had to put the dogs coats back on when walking!

14 degrees in Surrey but light rain forecast. Might be sat under the day shelter.
Sun was nice, but wind was brutal this weekend down here.
Another weekend fishless for me
19 & 18 deg, Thur/Fri...got to love global warming
I have a pass for Thur.....prob still won't go
In reply to Post #66 Just ended up a bit expensive
Good to hear you guys are enjoying the weather/fishing. For those who can't or don't want to use zigs the fish might hold up in the water, but ime with these conditions they'll also be in shallower water around the edges, even right under your rod tips, as long as you're quiet you'll be in with a chance. They'll be looking for spawn soon too, fish and frog/toad.
In reply to Post #64 Have to admit, im not a zig lover and have never caught on them. Luckily, the little lake i fish days on is only a few feet deep so i just tend to heavily glug etc. to try and tempt them down. I was one of two people that caught yesterday so happy with that.
Just a few quid out of pocket
In reply to Post #63 That sounds like me 8 weeks ago 😂😂😂.
Zigs banned where I am sadly.
They were boshing out all over but only 1 fish out all weekend.
Guess winter isn't over for the carp just yet
A most enjoyable day out. Weather was fantastic, got a bit of colour on my bald patch. Fish showing but only managed to bag a small stockie. The only downside was that i needed 2 trips to get my gear to the lake so ordered a small barrow last night and also decided that my small chair is far too uncomfortable so ordered a new chair as well.
Well I had one at 4 o'clock this morning. Hooked over 2" back in it's mouth as well.
In reply to Post #60 Get on the zigs
Got cold last night, had to put me extra layer on my bed!!
Been interesting watching the carp, loving the warmth in the top layer but not actively feeding yet (where I am). Quite frustrating!!
In reply to Post #58 Thanks mate been a difficult 3 months so hopefully it will be a good year and not bothered about the size a fish is a fish weather is looking good tho rods out time to chill, and my mom is looking down on me knowing I’m doing something I love
In reply to Post #57 Good luck mate, I hope the fishing gods are kind to you 👍
I’m out later on first time since my mom passed away late last year,I need to get out the house rather than either sit at home or work be nice to just get on the bank,it’s what my mom would have wanted, for us to carry as as normal as possible and she knew we loved our fishing (me & my brothers)
I've been working down the Pool all week and the lovely sunny days have definitely gotten the carp more active. I've seen several sat around the margins in 2ft of water sunning themselves and cleaning themselves off in the sandy and clay areas.
Fingers crossed for the weekend.

In reply to Post #54 You're not wrong re the weekend, looks lovely Was peeing down here all night last night, only just stopped the last hour or 2, and more forecast this avo app

In reply to Post #51 well this fools enjoying it
Chillies & toms enjoying daily trips to the greenhouse, 35 deg c in there today!
Hedgehogs been out & about, rescued a few bumble bees off the lawn.
I was hoping to get out today, didn't happen....maybe Fri, raining apparently...typical.
Hope you enjoyed it if you got out, good luck at the weekend Fivenil
In reply to Post #50 I am DEFINITELY out on saturday!
In reply to Post #50 "Fools Spring" as the gardeners call it. March or April usually come along with something to spoil the vibe.
Will take it while it lasts though, makes being outside so much more enjoyable. Have loads of my early season garden jobs done already.
Out to wet a line definitely tomorrow, maybe even tonight too.
In reply to Post #49 Nice one 👍
Edit, next 4/5 days averaging 15 deg, apparently 17 here on Thursday...was snowing this time last year. Even if there's a 'sting in the tail' it's not too shabby at all
In reply to Post #48 Well it as worth the cold nights, had two yesterday from a new lake so I'm well happy. The Herb and Skipjack doing the doo again

In reply to Post #45
@Karlos, good hunting
@ Fivenil, yep about right! I was dragged round garden centres today looking @ tomato plants...meh....must get my chilli's ordered...late this year!
In reply to Post #45 my old bones don't like the cold. Spent a few hours sorting the garden and planted 15 chilli plants in the lovely sunny weather.
Nothing left to do next Saturday now so definitely going fishing!

Just dropping daughters back to their Mum and then I’m off for a quick overnighter. 👍
Early rise in the morning to head off to The Big One show

In reply to Post #42 Got up at 5. Way too cold for my liking! Back to bed. I'll go next Saturday
Bright and sunny the next week, temps low/mid doubles, more importantly not freezing at night, not bad at all
Looked a bit cold when i opened the curtains this morning. Hoping to get out for the day tomorrow but looking like another cold one tonight, -2.
In reply to Post #37 Didn't get down my club water as planned but had a social day out on a day ticket.Thinking it would be a bit easier.
Saw loadss of fish showing but couldn't get them to bite. Either on the zigs of bottom.
My mate had a couple of pike out on deadbait so at least I saw something on the bank.
My 2025 blank continues. Hopefully not for long tho!
In reply to Post #37 Went mallard(bluebells). Caught 3 mirrors off solid bags and a small pike hitting my bait on the retrieve lol.
Fish were showing Friday then went quiet rest of the weekend.
In reply to Post #37 Nope, had a blank and didn't see a fish show all weekend
Anyone do any better with the warm weather?! A friend did a couple of nights on the local water and he didn't catch. Still feels tough going out there.
Loads of mozzies last few days, big stripey buggers, got me a few times, you'd think they'd have better taste
I got biten by a horse fly friday night, earliest I can remember that.
I've seen the first Blackthorn come into bloom today, spring is here.
In reply to Post #32 Nice one 👍 Got to say it's very pleasant temp wise here though a little blustery and rain showers when not spitting most of the time.
Warm wind hopefully will get some fish on the bank. I set up yesterday for 3 nights on my syndicate hoping for a fish or 2 on friday with the low pressure, but managed one this morning during the rain, nice 22.6lb mirror
In reply to Post #16 They're doing their normal thing and rarely getting caught, or never getting caught.
We netted last Saturday and two commons came out that have never been caught, 19 and 24lb+. Another previously uncaught 24lb+ came out during the summer.
21mph from the south for Hampshire.
Other than a wet setup, it's gonna be lovely 🤞
In reply to Post #28
You've won half the battle already by just going, and given this wind forecast you'll soon blow those cobwebs away
EDIT, Fri looks fun, 50mph winds in Cheshire!
Thanks Vossy
I've been getting all the bits sorted ready to do a few nights in the kinder months on an easy water, but figured with a weather front coming in I shouldn't wait, so I'm straight in on one of the hardest waters my club have 😂😂
Got that excitement from the anticipation building up already 😃.

In reply to Post #22
Blimey, 5 years, I hope it's kind to you mate, it should be by the sounds of it, shallow silty mere, perfect 👍
In reply to Post #23 Completely agree, prime conditions
In reply to Post #24 Toronto
it's "rough with the smooth" - cold winters & hot summers. Our spring seems to be a couple of months behind yours - by mid May it will be 20+ degrees every day until Halloween
I am always happy to see everyone in the UK catching as you come out of winter as it helps create a bit of desire for me to get out.
In reply to Post #17 blimey mate, where roughly are you based?
In reply to Post #21 Agree. Carp are incredibly sensitive to temp fluctuation - a fraction of a degree can make a difference. Around my way we have 40mph+ winds with 15 C this Friday. That's enough to turn the water over completely on smaller (<10 acre) waters and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see water temps climb by 3 or even 4 degrees. I'd be amazed if the carp aren't nutting out on most smaller waters come Saturday morning. Even the big pits will climb a degree or 2 imo.
I'm spending my first night on the bank in nearly five years this Friday night.
Shallow silty estate lake kind a setup - I'm gonna empty it 😂
In reply to Post #19 but it's going to take a long time before any slightly better weather makes a change in lake temperature and the fish wake up a bit more.
I agree with the former but not the latter ime. A warm wind can make the fish totally active. Once the warm spell has passed they will return to relative inactivity again though.
On a water I fished, gravel pit to double digit feet depth, a change like this expected warm wind would have them porpoising out following it...I kid you not. The night prior was a freezer, the next morning between 11-1400 the fish just went nuts, oddly being caught on the deck though!!
For me it’s the light levels, they will be moving, it’s not really been that cold for us down south, sod fishing where Jamie is!
Hope you catch Thicky.
A little change in the weather gets us all twitching with expectation but it's going to take a long time before any slightly better weather makes a change in lake temperature and the fish wake up a bit more.
A local syndicate has been doing a fair few fish but I think the bit of supplementary feeding has kept them grubbing around.
Sat on the end of an easterly right now lovey sun but absolutely bitter! Think wind swings southerly and temps rise with incoming rain late wed early thurs.... god knows why but im excited and expectant on a big open pit.... love it!
we've had 2 1/2 ft of snow over the last week - temps are currently -10 & my winter venue has had a lid on since mid December - not looking like we are gong to get a thaw any time soon too.
good luck to those getting out over the next couple of weeks - the fish are in their best conditions now - hope you get a few in your nets.
In reply to Post #13 How’s the commons coming along Andy ?
Stunning venue
Yep, definitely worth getting out if you’re able to.
Sunday looks good for the Southeast, wind a few days old & pressure a little up & down but the wind is supposed to be gusting up around 40 mph.
1st March looks good as well, good luck if you’re out there, they will be moving about for sure.
In reply to Post #1 Looks good for it, if a bit wet for creature comforts.
Not fishing until the 25th/26th where it gets cold, crisp & sunny. Easier on the eye but not exactly screaming bites
In reply to Post #6 My place has done one bite all winter. That was on the only night anyone has fished.
In reply to Post #10 To be fair it was awesome to spend time just me and the boy.
Planning another trip in a couple of weeks time. He would go every weekend but I think but unfortunately we have other things that need doing sometimes.

In reply to Post #7 Fabulous place been a couple of times and want to go back again still haven’t caught from there but will one day

In reply to Post #9
Quality time with the kiddies

Typical that it would warm up after I've spent the weekend on the club gravel pit with my 7 year old huddled in the bivvy lol.
To be fair I loved it but that easterly wind was freezing!
Currently teaching my lad how to blank so he appreciates the captures more lol.

In reply to Post #2
@ Onslow, bugger, yeah your right about the half term but the cold mornings might put them off.
I used to fish a local shallow pool a day like those warmer ones could be a lot of fun. Same as a local ressy, 25' deep but the fish would be caught in 2' water around the edges on the slopes.
Still a bit to cold for the fair weather brigade.. but will be nice to get a bit of sun on your back for a few hours at least. Assuming we've got mid double figures with high pressure. A few will be coming out on Zigs no doubt. With the still cold nights it will be a while yet before the water warms up enough to get them moving about enough to get on the feed.. bit of a false spring..
In reply to Post #1 The kind of weather winter carpers dream of. Bet some lumps will come out if it's warm and wet (and preferably windy) for a couple of nights 👍👍.
Shame it's during half term so all the bell ends will be at the lakes too 😬

Said to be a period of warmer weather mid to late week, to 14 deg c, should be a few bonus fish coming out especially on shallow venues
