I've not been on here for a long time, hadn't seen this.
Gerry, you were opinionated and argumentative, and did alot of shouting but you were also very helpful and part of the furniture on here.
I was expecting to see you still at it, well it seems not to be.
RIP and Condolences to your friends and family.

I’m off camping soon using the Vango airbeam tent I bought from him .
First have a trip to Belgium 🇧🇪 with a mat I also purchased from him .
He cost and saved me a fortune in the time I knew him .
Met him personally a few times a true character that are disappearing from our beloved pastime .
Couldn’t imagine Gerry shouting “ get on the twg and spomb the granny out of it “

I went fishing at my local club water the last few days.

Personal issues had meant first time in 2 years.

Having a beer and pottering around the swim Last night it occurred to me.

That I was using the Nitecore headtorch that he recommended.
I had cooked on he stove he recommended about 20 years ago
I weighed my fish using the Tripod he recommended to me.

And I slept on the shiitest bedchair I've ever had in my days.

Oh well O.G can't win them all.

Thinking of you at least RIP mate

from the magazine -

"It is with deep regret I announce the passing of my father Gerry Giles on Thursday 3rd of October 2024.

He spent over 5 years fighting like a warrior to keep going, always facing every day and challange with strength and determination and his sense of humour never left him. Even now he will be up there looking down laughing his ******** off at me, after he told me to post an announcement on FaceBook to let all his friends know when he had “ kicked the bucket “ ( his choice of words, not mine lol ), sadly he never gave me the password or his phone pin number so i have spent last 36 hours looking for a way get in, and i have finally done that via an old email address on an old device that was still linked and i guessed the password to, Cheers dad you couldn’t of made it more difficult if you tried lol

My father was an old school kinda guy, that had to excell at everything he did, he was a G1 ham Radio Operator, An expert carp fisherman and a keen Metal detectorist. He excelled at everything he attempted in life.

He was loved by so many people and will be very much missed, I have forgiven you mate for giving me the CB Radio handle Skidmark was a was about 6 years old and he let me talk on his CB whilst we are at The Great Dorset Steam Fair along with his friends Dennis and Audrey and where we met the legendary Fred Dibnah for the first time. Memories that i cherish and will never ever forget.

Thank you, dad, for being more than a father, you were a bloody good mate to, always giving advice on how to deal with situations in life. I thank you all for being such great friends to my father. R.I.P Dad"

Not been on here in ages. Just seen this thread.. Knew OG only had a short time left, but even so its a bit of a shock to hear he has passed away..he was a massive contributor to this & the old Cemex forum where iirc he was less ' constrained' than on here !! RIP OG. Thank you for helping me among others to spend but save on all those bits via the linkypoos. Belated sympathies & condolences to the family

The wife and I were just talking about our blow up tent that we bought from Gerry .
Whilst erecting the tent for the first time we found a crusty old pair of knickers in a side pocket .
I was never sure if they were worn by Gerry or one of his lady friends .
He never wanted them posted back,
One of a few purchases from Gerry .👍👍

I spent some time last night creating the 'Linky Poo' code to help people put links into their posts.

If you are on a PC you will need to do Control-F5 to force a refresh of the cache (otherwise the old weblink code will still be used)

Once done, if you wanted to link to something you enter the web address
e.g.
http://www.ford.com

Then completely select the web address and hit the >> button to the left where it says Web Link.

This should then take your web address, make it into a link, and prefix the link with LINKY POO™
e.g.
LINKY POO™ http://www.ford.com

I need to do more work on it to neaten it up (and no doubt there will be exceptions where it doesn't work and I need to debug it).
I also need to put in a word or two about Gerry somewhere to remind us where the LINKY POO term came from

Only just spotted this thread.

There's not much I can say that's not already been said.
A great guy. Very knowledgeable and we communicated most days on WhatsApp

Recently he created a WhatsApp group with a bunch of his contacts in...most of whom I didn't know as they were people from his past or lived near him.
On that group I mentioned that I would like to write a long overdue feature for the forum, links. I said I would like to brand the feature "Linky Poo" - in his memory.

Those of you that know me will realise this feature isn't likely to happen overnight as I prefer fishing to coding, but I am putting this 'out there' to ensure I keep my promise and get it done.

RIP Gerry

I will think of you (along with other friends I have lost) as I gaze at the stars whilst fishing.

If any of the Carp Gods are within earshot, please point me out and let them know I need all the help I can get mate....those extra bites will be appreciated

RIP Gerry - Top geeza and forum God

Bought and sold a few items off and to Gerry over the years; met him a few times but never fished with him . . .very easy to talk to (we yakked for hours about past experiences / peeps we both know / lakes we've both fished) before parting with the goods!

May you be forever be dangling for the fish of your dreams!

Although we never met face to face, we got on so well, we often communicated with each other over messenger, FB, etc.
Our last little 'chat' was just over a week or so ago, he was fading fast but was still the old Gerry we all knew and loved, he had asked someone to buy a few bird feeders and fat balls so he could watch the birds feeding through the window at the hospice he was in.

RIP me old mate, we'll all miss ya, but you have left us with some very fond memories.

Gerry once SHOUTED at me on a forum post, didn’t know that was a thing until then. Met him at a show after that and found him a genuinely nice guy and very knowledgable. This place will be poorer without him. RIP OG

RIP Gerry,
As most on here have already alluded, you will be greatly missed for what you’ve contributed to the forum and wider fishing community over the years, there will be few if any that won’t have benefited from your “linkypoos” and smiled at your unswerving attention to detail even in face of what lay ahead of you.
Rest in peace.
