In reply to Post #10 I have never got the need for light guides on carp rods unless its on a stalking rod .

In reply to Post #9 To be fair when they first come out I really liked these guides because of the the lightness but now a good few years on, they seem a bit of a fad/novelty and I wouldn't have them on any future set of rods again

In reply to Post #8 Vortex guides are not recommended to be used with braided mainlines . I have changed countless minimas that have grooved and not only with braid but also with mono. I have heard the minimas are made differently now but cant confirm this.

In reply to Post #7 Yes I got a set of torrix te and some 10ft Gardner coverts which both have vortex guides

Do you know what brand yours are? I have a few different rods with this style guides but not had any issues so far.

In reply to Post #5 That's interesting and follows what I meant in the original post about hearing mixed reports.
It seems some people have experienced no issues and others using the same brand/type of ring have?
I wonder if there is a lot of variance in the heat treatment/hardness of the metal ring liner or something of that sort?

In reply to Post #1 I have minimas on my Torrix TE's from Cotswold rods.
Used braid (round profile smooth) and X-line (20lb), almost exclusively for the last 8 years without issue.

In reply to Post #3 They're nice eyes but if they do that on fluoro then I'd expect braid to cause worse so I personally wouldn't risk it.

In reply to Post #2 Cheers, I don't think I will risk it then.

In reply to Post #1 I'm in the middle of having my vortex eyes replaced with ceramic lined eyes as have some tiny grooves worn into the vortex using only xline fluorocarbon through them.

Has anyone had any problems using braid with non ceramic eyes such as minima, vortex style?
Both my sets of rods have these type guides with a ceramic tip ring only. I've head mixed reports but nothing first hand
Was going to use them for some predator fishing this winter but don't want to ruin them
