Sounds like typical Burtree behaviour

The strange thing in my situation was that I know he had a replacement brolly for me, Aqua confirmed they sent it and Burtree told me he had it and asked for my address at the end of March yet just wouldn't send it despite me chasing every few days and providing my address several times.

Bizarrely when I sent him the first postal letter accusing him of no communication he actually messaged saying he denies that and he is just waiting for me to provide an address??!!

I recently purchased something on ebay from home-un-leisure, sh1t show

Over a week and FedEx were still waiting for the package. Chased via ebay to the seller and got a reply next day apologising and they'd sort it or get another sent. A week later and no update, item or change on FedEx so raised an ebay case. That was ignored for 3 days and so then I escalated and ebay refunded.

When I purchased, it was the last one remaining, then they had more of them days later and this is for something I think is maybe discontinued as most places are out of stock.

That’s a shame

I have used both Named companies a few times and never had a problem so far .

I’ll give you two examples from my own experience not fishing related that involved money

1,worked 4 days for a company then left was waiting 2 weeks for my money and they kept fobbing me off
Went straight online and filled a small claims form in £60 but that gets passed onto the other person your claiming off,two weeks later I won the case and they gave him 4 days to pay the full amount

2, purchased a item online recently even tho it showed it was in stock I got a email to say it was out of stock and won’t be in for another 6 weeks, fine by me I’ll just wait then it was 7 weeks past and I decided to go online at the company website and it showed a message stating they had gone into liquidation and that a firm would contact me in a few weeks.

Sod that I went straight online to my bank filled in a form and got my money back writhing 2hrs.

I don’t bother waiting these days to get some sob story blah blah blah I just either go straight to the bank or take them to court 👍

I have had online issues before with other shops that have been sorted more than satisfactorily.

I don't understand why they would just not respond and save both parties the grief, did they think if they ignore me I would go away?! Maybe some people do, if it was a cheap item maybe but a £300 brolly, no chance!

I have used both sellers previously with no issues as, like you, I have never needed to contact them before.

I tried all avenues first and smalls claims was a last resort, I really don't need that faff in my life!

Beyond 6 months and both ebay and PayPal said there was nothing they could do.

Citizens advice were really helpful as I, like most of us probably, have never been in this situation and didn't know where to start.

unfortunately like all feedback and reviews the positive always out ways the negative. But when you read through them the company is only doing what it should be doing and that is send correct item and within a good time frame. Its the reviews of when things go wrong that really shows what a company is like. Things do go wrong like in this case but the way it has been handled would put be off from using just in case I had an issue.

Wow, shouldn't be allowed to get away with this in this day and age. But well done for naming and shaming, I buy loads off ebay and will definitely be steering clear of these two in the future.

Sorry to hear that you went through all that. I've used hone-un-leisure via eBay quite a few times and never had an issue. Granted I've not had to complain about anything so not used their customer service and hopefully I won't have to based on the below. Glad you eventually got it sorted though

Sounds a nightmare, especially having to go through Citizens Advise, (who are woeful at the best of times) and then set up a small courts claim.

Could eBay/PayPal not have stepped in to help?

I started a thread a few months back but can't find it so I assume it got lost when the forum went down, just thought I would update on it in case it saves someone going through what I had to.

Long and short of the previous thread was I purchased an Aqua fast and light off ebay that failed within a fairly short time frame and I wanted it replaced via warranty which Aqua agreed and, eventually, the seller agreed.

It took a long time but it finally got sorted and I got my money back!

The seller was Burtree Angling who have 2 ebay accounts, fish-4a-deal and home-un-leisure. Both have good feedback and are pretty much the cheapest on lots of items you look at.

Unfortunately, good ebay feedback counts for nothing when you encounter a problem that needs sorting and you realise the customer service is none existent, they are not contactable by phone and do not respond to messages. A quick Google of the above names tells you enough and I regret not doing that before I parted with a significant amount of money, lesson learnt!

At Citizens Advice recommendations I sent letters by recorded delivery making complaints, informing them of my intention etc then opened a small claims court claim against them which they have now paid.

It took months of chasing to get that far and with the lack of response my patience was wearing thin but I'm glad I pursued it.

So use the above sellers with caution, sometimes it isn't worth saving a couple of quid.

Aqua's customer service was not much better but I won't drag them into it!
