Hi Karlos,

I’ve got a PM but can’t open it. It get loaded, takes a while and then it spits an ‘error message’ .

Anything you can do about it?

Last night I went through every new post (and thread) and tried to delete all the duplicate posts.
Tonight, I have gone through them all checking, and haven't found any new posts which are duplicates.

Smug mode on...

I have also now tweaked the Send PM code, as sending a PM was taking a while (and I have been getting a few repeats where people click Send more than once)

PMs now send faster

Good night

I had an idea what it might be, just made a tweak to the code.
Let's see if this post happens fast or slow....drumroll...

Result: Very fast. Hopefully that's the bottleneck sorted...but I'm not counting my chickens just yet

7 sec again 0851 18/05/24
But this msg faster, more like 2 or 3, so o.k

1057, same 7 seconds posting and 1059 loading a page.

When looking for problems, I found a table in the database with 29 million records in it. The housekeeping hadn't been running.
I manually cleared it down to a more sensible 1.5million records, so it should be faster

I'm not sure which figire scares me more, or the fact you did some manually

I was hoping I had fixed it the other night :(

The delays seem to be posting a message or a PM.

Still looking into it...

Maybe create a thread asking for people to be patient and not to click more than once while the problem is being sorted?

Stick it in General Carp Discussion rather then Feedback to Carpforum as I suspect not everyone bothers to read the latter.

Thanks Karlos.

If anyone else is experiencing this, it would be handy to know at what time this happens.

Here's 1, not MINE re duplicate posts, there are others not mine, I'll have a look later.

1845 yesterday, click here

I am guessing it's only when there are quite a few people on (refer to Members/Guest numbers top/right of the page)

I'll take a look at the DMVs on the database to see where the bottle necks occur and see if I can optimise anything

Good memory! That was it....it was decided that we didn't want to keep dipping in/out of popular non-carp threads whilst trying to flick through the new carp related posts

I think I disabled the 'new post' flags on non-carp quite a while back.....ok, a long while back as I only have a faint recollection of doing it.

I could probably make it an option, so users could choose.

Surely it's been this way for years? I haven't touched anything recently

I'm wondering if it is down to the non-carp section being a choice if you go in there or not?
You don't have to go into the non-carp (best not to sometimes...)
Keeps it out of the loop if you use the next post option? Just guessing here.

Karlos will know (you'd hope )

I've noticed when replying to threads the submit button is either delayed (page jumps up, reply gone, but submit button still there) or the page sticks for quite a few seconds before refreshing.

Quite a few double posts, the odd triple, are other folks noticing anything similar?
