In reply to Post #22 But you also need to ask yourself why that happens?
I had to ban him off of our works Faceache page. He kept turning up in the comments trying to ‘non advertise’ his scientific skills to our punters. While at the same time telling our punters we are full of crap. It’s shameless. Just after I turned up on this forum funnily enough. He’d already been long banned from here. The fella is an absolute melt. Like so many of the ‘internet’ bait gurus. Most of them are absolute idiots in reality. All more interested in causing a row constantly, because it’s the only way they can gain any attention for themselves. The day I have to turn up on someone else’s work bitching I will throw in the towel.
If he had anything at all to advertise, he’d be doing it.
I see the same old crap constantly. More and more of it. Half of these idiots can’t keep my name out of their mouth currently. Any silver haired old carper who fancies giving up work included. They all have the same dream. I’ve lost count how much crap I’ve been directed to over the past few months on insta or Faceache alone. Back handed digs from absolute mugs. Half the time they have a rant and then delete it. Five minutes later they are covertly begging for some new rods or strip of boilie stops.
Threads about Essential. Mike Willmott has always been a proper angler. Of course he will know his stuff inside out.

In reply to Post #18 I dont buy into the "the best, most nutritional bait will catch you more fish" theory.
A well put together nutritional bait (that doesn't have to cost the earth) with a decent liquid food attractant in my opinion will catch as well as a super high end "worlds best latest and greatest formula" bait.
I believe that fish can tell what a good food source is and if applied correctly they will eat it and continue to eat it as a food source, I don't however believe that a fish can eat one bait and then another and know which one is more nutritional to them and decide that they will only eat that bait over another, that scenario tends to happen from correct and continuous bait application not which has the best nutritional value, if this wasn't the case people wouldn't need to prebait. They can sense certain elements in a bait that they can detect as a food source and recognize it as the same food source every time they encounter it for sure but a cheaper well put together nutritional bait will give off a nutritional signal and catch just as many fish as the latest fandangly expensive bait.. application is really the key. Obviously this is all my opinion and findings over the last 27 years of bait formulation, bait making and fishing situations.
Another thing to ask yourself is, how much useable nutrients are in maize, tigers and seeds (that you see the fish crap out whole)? people spod out seed and maize etc. then fish maize or tiger on the hook and often this out fishes boilies.... but the boilies have a much much better useable nutritional value than the particles yet they dont catch as well.....

In reply to Post #22 You need to order well in advance of requirements as its made to order. I'd allow 4 weeks to be sure of getting it in time. Dean does not advertise , and all his customers come from word of mouth.

In reply to Post #21 Good bait by Dean Towey, a smart guy with a scientific background and application to bait. Used to post on here but his bs free approach to bait making ruffled the wrong feathers and he got himself banned. It’s a shame that some of those with genuine knowledge don’t seem to be able to last long on here.
Thank god we still have 500 pages on synchro xt and power banks to read though

In reply to Post #18 Never heard of Scientific Baits? But Essential and ABS are quality baits you can trust.

In reply to Post #19 And all for maybe a 5% discount off their next order and a Parker beanie😂😂😂😂😂

In reply to Post #18 The last sentence in your post nails why the two bit bait companies shift bait, you can get away with any old crap on a day ticket.
Take Coking Farm for instance any old crap will do, chances are you're fishing and baiting over the last mans free offerings anyway.
Funnily enough there are a couple of these noddy bloggers who big up the Parker bait at Coking, see the other thread.

I used essential baits for many years back in the day. My brother caught his pb on it about 15 years ago. I stopped using it when I fished a water that needed heavy baiting. For cost reasons switched to A.B.S. used them for many years. Now using Scientific Baits. Confidence in your bait is everything, especially if time is limited. If you feed them enough bait, that's cheap, but all they see, you will catch. Fish a water where they see good bait you need something that they feel stands out in order to get ahead of the rest.

In reply to Post #14 I spoke to a few people at CC Moore and they dismissed my queries, not sure who i spoke to there. This is going back a few years, not long after they pulled Equinox. I'm more than happy with the companies I now use, not the cheapest on the market (couldn't bring myself to do that as been brought up on the need for quality bait) but I feel are definitely top end of the quality spectrum and I catch well on them so goes back to the confidence thing. All being well hope to not need to jump around again (which I did for a few years after using CC Moore)

In reply to Post #12 Did you give Ian a call? Did you give them a chance to sort the issue?

In reply to Post #12 I did really well on mikes baits many moons ago when I used it for about 4/5 seasons.
I also think Mike has a very good knowledge of what works and he is a very good angler!
His company has lasted longer than most for a reason.
He’s also a bloody nice bloke.
Regarding prices…….it has to go up from even 5 years ago, they can’t go down can they!!
If price is the biggest factor in the bait anyone chooses then you are in luck as there are dozens and dozens of companies making really cheap bait nowadays.
Let’s see if they last as long as essential!

In reply to Post #11 I've had a similar experience to you with CCMoore and will not touch any of their baits again as simply have no faith in them. Confidence is so important when choosing your bait so cam always understand why 1 bad experience is enough to put you off. All I am saying is that in my experience in regards to quality is good, I use another supplier as I feel their quality is at least as good, and it is cheaper

Maybe not these days but I was talking about 25+ years ago, the colour change didn't bother me but the peculiar change in smell did at the time , I know plenty on a group of three Gloucestershire lakes that MW used to fish who use it these days and do well enough over the last 9 years I've had tickets for there, a longtime ago now and I wouldn't go back to using it as in my opinion far better baits/companies around these days to choose from.

In reply to Post #9 No there are no cash on collection deals. (You will get the over runs if buying in bulk though)
In actual fact he's got a bit expensive over the last 2 years versus others , CC Moore being one example.
You'll have the usual "winterised" bait offer around Christmas which to be honest is wearing a bit thin these days when every other best selling bait can be used all year round on a single recipe.
Used B5 for years but a lot of other baits have overtaken Essential. I cant see MW screwing with the mix, not on B5 anyway.

|
|
Are there cash collection bulk deals to be had from Essential does anyone know?
Does anyone know where their Black snail meal/powder could be sourced to add to other boilies base mix?
|
|
|
In reply to Post #5 I used it to decent effects on Ashmead a few years ago. No issues with the quality and the B5 definitely did not spell of bubblegum, ask my groundsheet that has a bottle of glug spilt on it!!

In reply to Post #4 That could have coincided with the red dye in robin red being banned?
|
|
|
Just knocked my confidence in it back then moved onto another bait manufacturer then and never went back, I know quite a few who use the baits these days and catch well just never re-visited it myself since them days.

In reply to Post #4 Not good that. Any others recent users?

I used the B5 mid to late 90's was having good results with it then after a few orders the last batch I had changed it went from a deep red to a lot lighter shade, I know certain products will change between batches and it could alter the colour but that wasn't the only thing that changed the smell had altered it had gone from a marine fishmeal type smell to smelling like bubblegum.

In reply to Post #2 Yeh i have seen snippets and thought he had remained. Good to hear if he has.
I actually remember his first baits (mixes) and storm sides etc. Think i used some of his shrimp mix! Now I feel old!

In reply to Post #1 I believe from what I've seen on social media he's decided to continue with the company. Essential are probably one if not the oldest bait company out there ( mid 80s I believe ) Very small range of baits with the legendary B5 being the flagship bait.Though I have not personally used his baits I know a few people who use nothing else. The above says it all.

Hi All,
Any users here? Has Mike now decided to stay on board and not sell?
