I think we've all seen people we know via Social Media go into strange conspiracy wormholes over recent years (especially since COVID). Most seemed like quite normal people until you read the weird ramblings of their minds.

The one thing that seems to be common amongst them is their struggles with normal life and obsession with 'mental health'. Good mental health is important for us all but you'll see these individuals talk about it more than most.

AP seems to slot into this stereotype very well, i ditched the cesspit of twitter/X a couple of years ago but i did follow AP for about an hour, read a couple of his posts and decided not for me. I can't stand reality TV and reading social media posts from people openly struggling with reality, feels like another part of that weird charade.

Always look out for quotes about 'don't be a sheep' etc, for nice early indicators of those struggling.

I think AP, in the main part does a reasonable job of compartmentalising his angling skills and fishing media profile but you don't need to scratch the surface too deep to see his extreme views. Looks like he's very active on Twitter and 'Chem-Trails' is the latest hardcore rabbit hole he's obsessed with.

The majority of conspiracy theorists generally seem to be deadbeats or in menial dead-end jobs but sometimes you get the odd articulate, educated or religious crank trying to ram this sort of tripe down your throat.

Everyone has the right to believe whatever they want.

The problems arise when they want to push their personal opinions or beliefs onto everyone else. People with outlandish beliefs always want to push their views onto everyone else. Be that Jehova Witnesses banging on the front door... People with pink hair marching through London... Or carp anglers on Twitter/Facebook five years after Covid... And anything and everything in between... It's all the same. People can believe whatever nonsense they want to believe. That is their right.

The real question is... Why do these people then want to force their beliefs onto everyone else? Believe whatever you want... Do what you want.... Be whatever or whoever you want to be... But don't try to influence me and everyone else with your personal views about what you believe or want to be. Keep them to yourself.

That's the part that makes these people very unusual. Very obsessive. People are not happy believing what they believe themselves... They then have to try to get everyone else to believe the same stuff as them too. That single act must be like a form of personal validation for them.

Sorry for your loss Kells. That's heartbreaking stuff.

I know one guy who does, it's religious. It's the way he interprets the bible. I agree with you, but i always find it interesting that people will call flat earthers morons, but won't bat an eye lid at peolle who believe the rest of the equally absurd nonsence in the bible.

If you genuinely believe that the earth is flat, you’re a moron. It’s as simple as that.

That incident wasn’t what got him fired from Korda. He stayed years after that. He was fired over a “hot microphone”, and because it was recorded he couldn’t deny it when confronted by Danny and Damian with the evidence.

Flat Earthers are a strange bunch - especially those that use GPS whilst not believing the satellites are in geostationary orbit, or get on planes whose routes would only make sense if the Earth were round

This will probably be my last post on this thread... I'm a subscriber to Adams channel and quite enjoy his content. No denying he's a talented angler. His book is great as well. I can understand the baseball incident that's called passion. Nothing wrong with that

But to come on his Facebook platform and say what he did. There was no need and pretty ill advised.. Facts speak for them self's. There are a lot of people out there still feeling the effects of what happened all them years back.

Adam take a walk along the Southbank opposite Westmister and have a look at all the names scribbled on the wall my Old man's included.. And then come out and say what you did. Some opinions are best kept to yourself..

FWIW.... the year before covid, I contracted something very similar to covid and spent 4 weeks on a ventilator. I couldn't avoid what happened to myself, but covid was preventable.
I used to watch Adam and enjoyed his vids and thoughts on carp fishing.
Good angler, poor excuse for a human being. And don't forget the baseball bat incident at a carp show....

I’m really sorry you lost your dad like that,my mom had Covid Christmas time and was really ill with it but not hospitalised fortunately,I think I may have given it to her as I work with a load of people in a warehouse and a lot are in the same thinking about Covid like AP is,we were lucky with her she was in her 80’s and fought it off but she was classed as vulnerable due to her being blind and deaf and having 2 strokes before Covid,me and my brother who I live with done everything we could to protect her as I still had to work as I wasn’t allowed to stay at home to keep her safe,we all had the jabs to try to keep her safe even though they made her and me ill but even now im so glad we did what we did for her.
It’s crazy to think people think it was all a conspiracy when there were people of all ages dying.
My mom passed away in December 2024 and I’m so glad we never lost her through Covid,
I’m sorry if this all seems confusing reading this but I’m still struggling even now with her passing way over a year on.

He certainly wouldn't spare a thought for you or the thousands of others, he's just shown what a ridiculous law breaking, selfish individual he is.

He does like a conspiracy theory or two does our Mr Penning.... I worked with a guy on and off thankfully.. who had go so far down a Rabbit hole with every conspiracy theory known to man he was struggling to get back out.. he would rant of to anyone willing to listen. Most people did out of politeness. But wished they hadn't.. Scary..

The thing with these conspiracy theories ( Moon landings ) etc. Is the amount of people with greater intelligence than you. That would be needed to perbetuate the on going lie would be enormous. I would struggle to get more than five people in a room who I would say were any more intelligent than me at anyone time. And I'm just a working class lad from South London.

I tend to believe the facts. What I see with my own eyes. I like many stayed at home social distanced, track and traced. Got me vaccines. Because I thought it was the right thing to do. Where we all being suckered into one big conspiracy. Believe what you want.

My Old man got taken into hospital with some unrelated issue just before the Christmas lock down. My Dad weren't a well Man he had COPD and heart issues. So I knew catching any type of influenza might not have the best outcome. My Dad passed away with Covid a few days after contracting it. We couldn't see my Dad we were locked down. I spoke with him everyday. His ability to hold a conversation towards the end was almost non exsistant. We couldn't be with him at the end. He died alone. Found non responsive by Medical staff. Probably while Johnston and this rest of his cohort were sleeping of the worst of there hangovers from the downing street office party the night before. My Sister took the phone call.. I'm tearing up now writing this.. So think what you think Mr Penning.. But spare a thought for the thousands who for them Covid was very real...

Covid was a conspiracy for sure. It was used as a way to funnel money out of the public purse into individuals pockets. Billions upon billions of pounds. Something might have been done to stop that, if it wasn't for all the proudly uneducated people muddying the waters with nonsence and distractions. The 'covid hoax' people were strung along by bad actors and used to distract the public from the heist. Those same bad actors are the ones now trying to tell you that Epstein was working for Russia and not Israel

Just to be clear I have no wish to 'pick a fight' with you and just like everyone else you are fully entitled to your own view. This is after all a fishing forum and this post will be my last word on this subject. Feel free to PM me if you wish!

I'm sure if you speak to 99% of healthcare professionals around the world they will tell you that Covid was a pretty indiscriminate killer, taking not just the sick and elderly but a good sized proportion of the otherwise healthy.

I personally know of both Drs and Nurses that left the profession or moved to desk jobs post Covid because they had PTSD.

It is a stone cold fact, again accepted around thew world by almost all medical professionals, that vaccines helped to bring the pandemic under control quickly and saved millions of lives.

Flu is a huge killer. Unlike Covid those most susceptible to Flu mortality are the young, old and infirm. If you are a healthy individual then you will probably be fine. Albeit after a couple of weeks of being bed bound. People get a heavy cold and think its Flu, there is a huge difference. Get Flu once and the next year you will probably be happy to pay £12 at Boots for a vaccination.

Re flu vaccines, if every school child took up the free Flu vaccine on offer then there would be virtually zero flu outbreaks. Children are the main vector for almost all of the most common human viruses.

Just to be clear my own personal view re all of the Covid school closures is that is was very badly handled by people that should know better.

Some areas of the country are more populated than others
Places like Cornwall and upper Scotland may not have been as heavily infected than places like Northampton bedfordshire or London.

Below is taken from the Nuffield trust website.

The mortality rate from all causes of death in England and Wales fell steadily between 1995 and 2011, from 1,392 deaths per 100,000 population to 979 deaths per 100,000 population. After that, progress slowed, reaching 937 deaths per 100,000 population in 2019. In 2020, mortality increased sharply to 1066 per 100,000 population, reversing a 15-year trend of declining mortality rates. This may have been caused by the high number of excess deaths during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, inclusive of deaths directly caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus and those where it was labelled as a contributing or underlying factor. As at 2024, the mortality rate had reduced once again to 931 per 100,000 population.

That's nearly a 14% increase in deathrate in a year. Make of it what you want.

Well,I did exactly that ,at the time ..

Here's my truth ...a big local hospital was reported to have lots of people dying in a bad way on the ICU ward it was on TV anyway ...a nurse ,a individual with no agenda made it known ,no one was ill,or dying in this ICU ...as she worked there..

So,I phoned the hospital ,on the help desk ,got through to the ICU ,and in front of my wife and daughters,I asked how many people were ill,in ICU dying or gasping for breath ...I put the landline on speaker phone ....the reply was thus ....no one is ill or suffering from the effects of Corona virus on this or any other ward !..

I thanked the staff member ...now baring in mind it was all over the mainstream media just minutes before hand ,I was just a little perplexed ..

I cannot see or understand why a hospital staff member, times two ,would lie ,why would they do that ...

Y'know I got a big family ..who knows ,someone and so on and on plus we have the biggest elderly community in the UK here, mostly vulnerable retired from all over the UK ..,I not heard or met anyone suffering with the virus ,the only person I know who suffered to this very day is my lifetime mate ,who has respiratory issues ,and he is so scared, and brainwashed he's not been out at all since it began ...100% true ..

I keep telling him to get out there ,come in my car for a drive ,but it's a no,no ...only last week I seen a female wearing a face nappy in her car ,on her own ...I mean what's that all about ..?

well, when I had my run in with him it was I think one of the Sticky Baits guys, (from memory I think he claimed he was part company owner, so he was obviously highly qualified to disagree with the world's finest medical minds!), who was most aggressive in the subsequent Twitter pile on............
As a postscript I will add that Penning and I are a similar age and I met him way back in the late 80s at Nazeing and he seemed a perfectly normal chap back then.

my advise - don't try to engage with him. You might think you can have an adult debate, but all you will get is abuse and then a pile on by his misguided followers. Unfortunately like a lot of 'big fish' in the very small real world pond that is carp fishing, he thinks his views have more weight than they really do.
Penning is a very articulate speaker, but do not let that gloss over the fact that he is, by his own admission, uneducated.
I posted on another Penning thread about getting drawn into a Twitter spat with him when he posted that those administering Covid vaccines were akin to war criminals and should be treated as such. As someone who was heavily involved in the Vaccine Program at the time, I'm very aware of how idiotic is statements were/are.
A physiatrist friend of mind has a thesis that a lot of conspiracy nuts have a form of mental illness.
Did he really do loads of fishing during the lockdowns? Funny how he never mentioned it at the time. I'd have thought if he really had been fishing, given his extreme views, he would have been shouting about it. I bet that during lockdown that he wore a mask when out in a supermarket like the rest of us did.........

I did know people that died from it, that worked in the hospitals that told just what hell it was.

We were asked to stay at home to help lessen the spread of the virus, to keep people out of hospital.

I would have loved to have gone fishing, I could have but like most people I chose to abide by the Law and not go out .. encouraging people to break it as Penning clearly did was completely selfish, wrong and disrespectful to the millions that made sacrifices.

I don't subscribe to flat earth either ..

However ,it's all about whether you can think for yourself ,look around and evaluate any given situation, ie not being a sheep...

During the great big pandemic/ lie / control../ bs ,over reaction ,mainstream media thought control brainwash ...you get the picture, I spent the whole time doing what I wanted in the countryside, not meeting or interacting with a soul.,and worked.the whole time..

Adam Penning is entitled to his views,I don't know the guy,I don't follow any one ,nobody..on SM...nothing ,and I STILL,don't know anyone.or heard of anyone getting ill or dying from the 'flu'

That's my experience..

I'm so pleased to be sharing this with sensible people rather than trying to on his Facebook page. Parents need to think long and hard if their kids follow him, he's entitled to his views but he should not be condoning the breaking of a law and being derogatory to the vast majority of people because they abide by them !!

It's the flat earth one that creases me up more than anything. I have flown around the world numerous times. The same as millions of others have done since aviation was invented.

If our planet was flat, how was that possible? Where is the ice wall they speak of at the edge of the earth?

Anyone whatsoever who can try to convince everyone else of stuff like this, they are clearly not very well in the head. It's not even that they can convince themselves of such nonsense... It's the fact that they then want to convince everyone else.

Oh, I must sincerely apologise if that caused offence to anyone except AP.

People still watch their children die of victorian diseases because they refuse vaccination, if after all this time idiots still think like that what chance does covid have after 7 years.
Even if whoever made it came out and admitted it, and said they were delighted with the results, some people woukd still refuse it.

Clearly he's not been affected by it, but to deride those who have...do you need to know more about him, or those that like him.

I never knew the guy was such a Fruit Loop until he put this on his FB page last night and then ridiculed me for my reply. Fair enough we all have a right to have our own views but in his post he is being completely derogatory to the majority of us that would loved to have gone fishing during Covid but chose to abide by the rules.
With someone that has their own subscription channel, maybe with young anglers viewing ,then surely they should be promoting best practice and not belittling people that abide by the law of the land while they think it's okay for them to break the law ??

Adam Penning wrote :

Here's a couple of lockdown carp. Had a fair few at night too and some right units.
'What, you did NIGHTS?!' I hear the covid police shout. Yes I bloody well did.
While the PC crowd were loudly obeying, virtue signalling and commanding everyone else to do the same, some of us dared to go out into the countryside. It was the one time that carp fishing became an extreme sport.
Thing is that we lost many fit young men to suicide - the figures rocketed to record levels. Young men who were no danger to anyone except themselves, suddenly locked indoors while many well-known anglers loudly condemned anyone for even thinking about going fishing.
With the passing of years we can see how mad it all was. Yet still no apology from anyone. No accountability from anyone.
Sincere apologies if anyone's nan has died while I wrote this post without a mask on.

Very snidey practices and they actively sought ways to weed out those who didn't conform to their thinking

What's their thinking, being a mouthy geek, which wouldn't happen in normal life would it lol

From what i have seen of AP he seems a decent bloke. I read on here a while ago though that he is a flat earther so the reality is that he must be a proper tit

Quote... Love him or hate him, Battenburg....

How can anyone hate Benjowmien? 😂 He's been an online terrorist, since the very dawn of the internet . He has honed his skills, over many years. Ask Richard Cash' Farnan who he used to terrorise on Cemtex. Me too a bit back in the day 😂

Here, below, he can be seen in a post apocalyptic carp world, dismembering poor Gareth Fareham.

Met Adam quite a few times when fishing on Bullfield in the old days when it was a free for all
he always came across alright with me ...we would always have a quick chat and exchange abit of info where the big fish were tucked away etc etc and also back then i wasn't the type of person who could be bullied out of a swim like he did with some people
which obvoiusly upset a few people... and when the track to the lake car park was blocked off and you had to park a 100mtrs away the fun and games began
i think then he had a Merc estate with a personal plate on it and it got trashed a couple of times ....i used to leave my old works van unlocked so as not to have the locks wrecked
and then most of the big fish walked next door as people were trying to get the rights to fish it in peace and safety

Ben might get legal letters for telling the truth about the many fans of mandy at korda, nash etc, but he also gets untold free pizza and takeaway deliveries

That was my experience too. Very snidey practices and they actively sought ways to weed out those who didn't conform to their thinking.

I didn't work for Korda directly, but I had a similar experience to you.

Love him or hate him, Battenburg is another who has been sent all sorts of threats and legal correspondence for merely telling the truth. *sniff sniff*

These companies don't realise how small our little circle is, despite whatever attempts they make to make our weird little hobby more mainstream. News travels fast, and it lingers. Even now, the WWF wrestler still gets mentioned 30+ years later about the fish he acquired for his French lake.

We don't forget.

Its a lot more professional there nowadays from my understanding but back then it was exactly this. Its come on leaps and bounds now they treat HR seriously but the way I was treated stopped me picking my rods up for 10 years! Covid changed all of that thankfully. No regrets.

Getting back on topic, Adam was always really alright with me. I worked there for a couple of years and honestly other than that moment of madness with Wickford Angling (I think?) he was perfectly civil and actually really alright. I drew a swim at Maison that he was in the previous year and his tips helped me land a 50lb+ Common which was big back then.

The conspiracy theory rabbit hole he's down now is crazy considering what an intelligent guy I found him to be.

I worked for Korda when this happened. It 100% didn't cost him his job which was mental.

From memory we were all asked to go into the canteen and he came in and apologised and that was that. I always found it super ironic that this was considered fine and I was asked to leave after I called somebody (whos still there) a druggy and he took offence to it. Despite him being a druggy. They apparently had a secret vote about whether I could stay or go and I lost the vote. All *very* odd!

Swings and roundabouts.

One of my favourite anglers. I love watching his fishing stuff but can't stand his views outside of fishing so don't follow him anymore on social media. I can see why he can't hold a job down. A very Jekyll and Hyde bloke.

Met him at Linch Hill in the 90's when he worked for ESP came across as a decent bloke, yep heard the bat stories when he was with Korda. Sorry we all have our 'moments' in life (I know reflecting at 62 there's things I would have done differently now). So he has an opinion that differs from others, wouldn't it be a sad old place if we were robotic and had the same opinions?

Just my opinion

And he chose not to get lairy with the owner of the tackle shop, who just happened to be built like a brick outhouse. He'd have needed to have an enema to have the bat removed.

Comes across really well on social media, but the fella is an absolute crank. Throughout covid times he was spewing conspiracy theory nonsense on twitter.

Most people aren't being entirely serious when they say it's bad luck to see a magpie, ask Adam about it...

Agree with this.

I'm sure there will always be plus/minuses to the people who have been doing it like he has for decades. He's a very successful angler, and he's seen a gap in the market for his type of tutorial - which personally I am loving as the Cypography etc approach makes me vomit.

My point in the original post is that he is proven, and also by the sounds of it, in keeping with various other posts on the forum that I have read, he also has a family life - respect to him for balancing all this.

Cheers.

I've met him a few times on the bank and he couldn't have been any more sound. He came to me and a few mates when he was fishing a lake next door after some bread as he'd found some carp in a corner. Came back to thank us later on and stayed for a chat.

So my personal experience is he was very down to earth

Hi all,

I subscribed to Penning's Carp Academy, and have to say the content, information, format and the myriad of areas of carp fishing covered is brilliant.

Adam Penning's delivery is truly refreshing too - I am coming back into carp fishing after 25 years, and to watch tutorials and insights from a top top proven angler without the need for scripted jokes, pointless music, fast paced crazy editing - and a load of salesy guff was important for me.

He fishes on a variety of lakes in the videos, with a lot of high pressure waters, and it's very warts an all - which is refreshing when you look at various other channels content.

There are four pieces of new content each month, including a live Q&A session.

I emailed him directly, and he sent me a long reply back.

Top bloke, and straight forward.
