On my phone so not easy to quote....but..

I'm not sure subscription is the way to go to remove ads Karlos.
Just from my own point of view, I won't be contributing photos if I have to pay for it. I have to upload them, then link them at my own expense time wise and your thinking about me having to pay rather than some seeing a few ads because they can't be bothered installing a add blocker

I used to co own a forum, after we were no longed involved those who ran it tried the same thing, it didn't work.

Just to repeat, I don't get ads with duckduckgo on my phone, maybe a bit inconvenient to some but not hard to install to use if you really don't want to see ads!

EDIT, The way we avoided needing ads for revenue to cover server costs, we had a add banner at the top of the page which sponsors paid to have their own click able link/tile on. Personally we ran none profit but there would have been scope for more revenue if needed

I switched to Brave browser (on a Mac) and most - if not all - ad issues are solved.

Seems to be a mix of fly tying kit, office furniture and leather knickers
I'm swapping from Chrome to Safari then....

On a more serious note, I am not sure about stopping ads on iPhone etc.
On the PC it's easy with adBlockers built into (or easily added) to common browsers

If I get around to creating the subscription add on for CarpForum (classifieds access, photo uploads etc) I can ensure that Google Ads are NOT served to those users.

I’m definitely getting more pop up ads on an iPhone using safari. Seems to be a mix of fly tying kit, office furniture and leather knickers

I’ve used ad blockers with safari in the past but they tend to slow everything down and you invariably end up having to switch them off for blocking the wrong thing at some point. This is the only site that has a problem at the moment.

Anyone recommended a decent one?

Since the site has returned after a couple of months off, it seems quite busy lately

Whether there's still bait bickering I wouldn't know, see my previous post.

The bickering takes place mostly in the bait section.
I gave up making bait years ago, I just buy what I'm confident in, I don't know what goes into it, as long as it works is all that matters to me, so there's no need for me to spend too much time reading about bait. I just use the Read the next topic with most new posts button

The bickering and handbags at dawn does my head in and its the same offenders. Along with that I find a lot of the threads are just repeats, best rod, best bait, Ronnie rig, etc etc etc.

Seems that most stuff has been covered already.

I joined the forum back in 2011 and went through a spell of posting mostly when I was single and had more time on my hands .
I still log on daily and usually head straight for the foreign section and work my way through sections from there .
I haven’t used FB for over 2 years and will never return .
Met a few decent people of the forum whilst buying and selling tackle .

A big thank you to Karl and the mods for keeping the forum going through difficult times .

I'm a new member so cant comment on the lowering of 'footfall', but here's my 2 cents for what its worth.

I'm a member of a few car forums and have noticed the same thing, there has definitely been a reduction in posts over the past few months / years.

I think that a lot of people are now members of groups on FB, Insta, Twitter etc instead of forums and have moved away from the more traditional forums as they seem to work in 'slow time' in comparison and people these days don't want to wait for anything.

However from my limited perspective, a lot of these groups on FB, Insta, Twitter etc are full of keyboard warriors with little or no knowledge of what they are talking about. I for one much prefer the traditional forum such as this one and am glad I found it.

Right lads, I'm going to make a semi-serious suggestion, something that has some form for raising the profile and maybe even raise some money for a suitable good cause...
What about a Carpforum topless calendar

Personally think the forum has a place in the 'internet of things' but do fear it may become obsolete with time as we inevitably kick the bucket! . . .the format does lend itself to previous generations so def agree being able to upload images quickly and easily may help retain newer members and encourage existing ghosts who rarely post etc

I haven't really noticed a drop in users in recent time.
Many forums have come and gone, but for all it's faults I say keep the forum as it is.
I find you get the best experience if you use a laptop.

Not a fan of Facebook, I don't need imaginary friends and need to be liked.

Personally I think that the clunkiness of the forum doesn't help.
Uploading pictures and video is so much easier on Facebook and other forums. We now have a 'like' button, but touch it and it shoots you back to the start of the thread and no one can see who has given the like anyway. IMHO the forum really needs modernising.
Some of the Facebook groups I'm in are awash with old skool anglers, full of great content and have zero bickering.

This is probably the most likely the case, as to be completely honest it's one of the main reasons I dip in and out of here. I like the forum in general, but it seems to go through phases of being very difficult to post anything 😂😂

Yes you do get it on Facebook of course, but if you look around there are some great groups that have very little of it.

It's no ones fault by the way and not a dig at anyone running the forum, unfortunately it seems to be the way a lot of the internet is going

Have those characters of yesteryear really switched to FB and other social media?

My guess is the ones I'm thinking of haven't, if they have I'd be surprised, the ones I'm thinking of would still be fishing but have given up on the internet.

Personally I still enjoy the forum, although I do find it more difficult to involve myself though.
I find I can't answer the questions nowadays, I don't know the answers to what's the latest electronic gadget or accessory.
Not a problem for me, I just make use of the 'Read the next topic....' button until I find something I'm more interested in.

@Singlebleep
When it comes to ingenuity I think you are right. Unless it can be bought in fancy packaging I think many people would be embarrassed to have a DIY item on display on the bank.
What would their fellows peers think of that?

Anyway, enough of my ramblings, I don't do many videos, podcasts, FB or magazines, this forum is my main interaction and long may it continue

You Don't think it’s the constant bickering and arguments lately that are stopping people posting/visiting ?
It’s like having kids on some threads rather than grown adults.

I think there is still a reasonable footfall but we are sometimes a bit short on posters who post interesting posts which prompt discussion.

I also think it is a sign of the times with people wanting instant answers to relatively easy problems rather than working it out themselves as part of the Google age rather than the ‘sort it out yourself’ days’. This is not a dig at any particular generation but just the way the rest of the world is going. We are a forum of people who interact, share knowledge and advice. Unfortunately ‘what’s the best’ threads tend to die off quickly.

Another aspect of the FB and Twitter era is that a thread about someone ****ing up, cheating, getting caught being naughty etc garner much more posts and views than other more factual or instructive posts. People would much rather revel in red faced men and hormones in bait scandal, rather than a different but much more informative post which tells people how to make a proven bait with a good track record from a knowledgeable poster.

And lastly, if you post anything on how to improve, tweak any item of tackle to make it better, cheaper, or more available it is usually ignored these days as if it doesn’t come like that from the manufacturer then few can be bothered to alter it The days of making stuff that wasn’t available seems to be over.

Oh and a minor rant….if someone asks for help on a thread or by PM especially, then can’t be arsed to acknowledge your help or input and say thanks then that is just plain rude. You’d be surprised who are the culprits sometimes……………

someone mentioned in a post that the numbers and traffic on here are falling, I've noticed it too big time....there used to be alot of people using this forum but I definitely think Facebook and other social media outlets are eventually taking its toll on the numbers....I think it has been quite resilient to fb etc..forums on the whole have dropped right off and cf has done well up to now.
