In reply to Post #24 Seems absolutely spot on. 12.5kg no presoaking, bought to the boil and launched into a cheap coolbox. Next morning perfectly usable hemp.
Taken out on the boat and tipped over the edge. I'll know if the carp find it acceptable if they clear a hole in the solid weed for me or not lol.

I bought a 15kg sack of copdock mill from my local farm supply shop for about £33. Soaked for 24 hours and boiled for 30 minutes it splits nicely and working nicely

In reply to Post #22 Have you prepared any yet?

In reply to Post #22 Was it good quality..even if you aren't fussy we still want to know 🙂

In reply to Post #20 Most expensive doesn't mean good quality though does it

I had 50kg of hemp delivered from Food4wildbirds yesterday, £80 all in.
It arrived in 12.55kg bags, which is actually quite convenient.
I'll buck the trend of this thread and say that I'm really not fussy about the hemp I use for carp fishing, I've honestly never noticed any difference in results, if I were roach fishing I would definitely be more fussy though.

In reply to Post #20 Just looked on Hinders website, looks a decent amount of stock at good prices.
Do you buy the Chinese hemp?
In reply to Post #18 Obviously not, I've never had a bad batch from there, but had several bad batches from other places, I don't know where they source it but it's always been good. If you want to buy cheap stuff then go and buy it that's your choice, I prefer to use the best hemp I can buy and that's from hinders.

In reply to Post #17 Not the good stuff no..

In reply to Post #15 They don't grow it themselves though do they so it must be the same as some others?

In reply to Post #2 having not used hemp in the good old days have people noticed carp eat it with less gusto and its less effective than it used to be?

Too be fair one batch from a supplier could be totally different to the next, its probably stored in a barn for years prior to bagging up.

In reply to Post #11 I completely agree with this, never scrimp on hemp and tigers. I always get my hemp and tigers from hinders, you really can tell the difference, plus Steve always has offers and codes on for discount on the FB page, it's great stuff and worth the extra money, used them for years 👍

In reply to Post #12 I'll never use pre cooked particles.

Started to use more pigeon conditioner lately and just chuck a tin shop bought hemp in.
In reply to Post #11 Because of the cheap rubbish available now I just use pre done carbon baits. Its really good.
In reply to Post #10 But looks is where that comparison ends, so not too sure on the relevance as they have completely different kind of attraction? There are 2 particles I'm very particular about, hemp and tigers. Imo both are worth spending the extra money on if needed to get the best quality.

In reply to Post #8 However looks a lot like the tiny snails you see in lakes and rivers. if You're going down the naturals route it fits that bill.

In reply to Post #1 Where are you located?
Copdock Mill just outside Ipswich is where I get mine

In reply to Post #7 The french hemp is what most of the cheaper gear is now, very small and doesn't split very well

Has anyone tried the French dry hemp from BAF? I used to use hinders for the same reason IP recommended them, but the prices are getting a bit pokey and they can't seem to hold stock.

People confuse the word cheap for poor quality. Good value might be a better phrase to use. No idea where you are based. Backhurst. Baits Nr. Guildford £27.83 for 15kg. Fresh & good quality.

In reply to Post #3 At haiths it's £65.09 for 20kilos
Titmuss is £39.99 for 20kg

In reply to Post #3 Not if you know the difference between good and poor hemp it isnt. And nothing is a rip off unless you are forced to buy it lol.And like I said mail ordering stuff is a minefield and with hinders you are guaranteed to get good quality, so unless you can physically travel and see what you are buying it's not a risk Id take
In reply to Post #2 Hinders is £34.99 for 10kg that's a rip off mate.

In reply to Post #1 Buying cheap hemp is generally counter productive. It's rarely of a decent quality. Better to go to somewhere like hinders to buy quality if ordering online , unless you can find a local stockist
