I regularly use the multi rig version in your first picture, with an 18 or 20mm bottom bait with a 12 or 14mm pop up, with a size 4 Ace Razorpoint longshank, or Angling Iron longshank, whichever comes out the Tacklebox first. I'm sure they're the same hooks lol.

Never really used fluorocarbon hooklinks until recently. If using say a 20mm bottom bait with a 14mm pop up, D rig style, what pattern and size of hook would be the most efficient? Any thoughts?

I have used both of those rigs and they are both effective.

Maybe you could try one on each rod and see how they perform for yourself.

Nothing wrong with either set up .I use it on a german rig. A PVA bag with double baits will near replicate your baited rig. Very underused -i catch far more on this or btm baits than overused pop ups.

Both are vailble options.

I prefer the rig with the hair and silicone since I like to fish rig with more spacing between bait and hook.
So, bottom rig with a longer hair for me 😉

The honest answer is find out what works for you.

I've used snowman baits for ages, on a line aligner knotless knotted braid, coated braid or combi-rig, a sliding ring on the hookshank (not blowback style, but stopped with a hookbead), even on D-rigs, and caught on them all.

One of my most productive sniwman presentations was a long hair on that sliding ring rig on either coated braid or a combi-rig using black Amnesia and Kryston Merlin when fishing on gravel. The only reason I changed is I went onto a crayfish infested lake.

I have pics, but sadly can't put them up on here, of that combi-rig and long hair that worked really well on Nazeing Brackens pool. It produced 3 30's and goodness knows how many other fish.

I've mainly used popups in the past so I'm just looking for advice on how best to present a snowman.

These are the two approaches I've come up with. Which one does everyone think would be best?

For this one I've just threaded a loop through the hook eye multi rig style and trapped it with the kicker. I then attach the bait using floss.

How tight should the silicone trapping the hair be on this? I'm using 1mm on a size 5 Nash Twister and it feels like it would only budge if I hook a fish, is that right?
