In reply to Post #1 TA or ESP are the better ones for me.
Just take your time with splicing

In reply to Post #17 I got the TA yesterday not bad for price and impressed with them so far will be trying them out tomorrow

Big fan of the TA stuff, colours are spot on and very easy to splice

Esp leadcore is bomb proof and frankly brilliant! Used it for years.
The fox easy splice needles are brilliant too.

In reply to Post #1 I use and have used for years ESP lead core, totally happy with it, splices brilliantly, quality product IMO.

In reply to Post #9 I have watched videos and seen the diagrams but it looks far too complicated

In reply to Post #1 Esp is the best I’ve found and I’ve used most. Easy to splice and doesn’t loose any colour.

In reply to Post #7 I used to needle knot but prefer the Keith moor knot as it isn’t actually a knot, more of a knotless knot lol

In reply to Post #7 I’ll have a look now Baitman … thank you.

In reply to Post #1 I was a keen splicer, perfect loops and I'd run some thin brush on superglue into the weave and they would look like fused leaders and totally perfect.
I have now moved on and tie the mono to the lead core using a needle knot, but without a needle. See the video (below) of terry hearn chod rig for details. Remember to melt the end of the leadcore (as in the video) to prevent it unravelling. This is the hardest part, but much easier if you keep the hollow section open with your baiting needle.
So no splicing, splicing needle or superglue issues.

The best tip I can give for lead free is get yourself a Fox Easy Splice bobbin type needle. Makes it easy.
To answer your question about leadcore, I still rate the ESP stuff as the best.

In reply to Post #3 Smashing folks thank you I’ll be buying some today .
I did see a post on here that was bemoaning the splicing ease of the lead free stuff .
That’s what made me ask for opinions as well as my struggle with splicing in recent times .

|

In reply to Post #2 Definitely agree with this. No need for leadcore any more. The lead free products are superior in every way to leadcore(unless you want them to be stiff and stand up off the bottom). Take a 2ft piece of each and lay them slackly over a choddy bottom and compare.
I use the Gardner Camflex

In reply to Post #1 Use unleaded leader, they are far more supple than leadcore and less dangerous. Plus easy to splice.
Gravit8 from angling iron is very good, most of the big brand name options also pretty good.

Good morning all ..
Over the years I’ve used Solar , Korda and more recently TA leadcore .
However of late I seem to be finding splicing more and more difficult…. Or my patience is shorting with age.
Age there any brands of leadcore that you use now that you would say stand out or are easy to splice .
Also have manufacturers changed the weaves on some as I just never seem to get consistent splicing sessions .
As always thanks
