Havent got the basias but got castizms with similar style handles and i use ta elasticated tip tops and i just loop the elastic section around the handle when i put them on the rod and they hold the handles in place with no movement at all and no need for anything else.

Bumped this up instead of starting another thread

Just got some and wondering how folk store the reel handles when packing away, elastic band or something
I use Aqua sleeves and use with undoing nut on opposite side
folding handle in and tighten nut to hold closed on my old reels
Cheers

I agree with the anti reverse positioning....didn't need moved. For what it's worth I have the 19's and love them. I upgraded my rods and reels during the first lock down, and got a good deal, 3 19 basias and 3 Harrison torrix 12ft 3lb tc for under £1700. Much nicer than the century ncs 3.25 and emblem pros they replaced. No problems with the reels yet.

Are they an upgrade from SLDs if anyone's had both?

There's a big difference to calling someone out on bull****, and relentlessly going after them.

There's loads of bull****ters on here. Such as the guy who had 3 separate issues with txids after a year of being faultless, then deleted his posts when he sold them. He wasn't subject to the same course of action? Or the guys who's mates have broken everything they don't own, but deem to be rubbish. Or the Nash barrow is crap but I don't own one brigade.

Has mark slept with your wife or something? Seems a little personal

You really are clueless. A mate put me in touch with a Daiwa consultant he knows, who the helped sort out the repair with them and no, I'm not saying who that is as he did me a big favour sorting that out so quickly and all done FOC I might add. I don't have to justify myself to sad little old men like you with nothing better to do than spend your life on this forum posting drivel against anything and everything.

I would not listen to a word he says.He was only saying how amazing the castizms were on the 4th June and telling people buy them when they can on the 6th.He has suddenly had all the issues in the space of 11 days and managed have them repaired and sell them.He also knows a guy who had issues with a reel before it was even released

Well that doesn't give me much confidence, surly they are not all having issues with the mag seal ? I'll be testing mine on Monday so I'll let you know . Spending that sort of money you would think that they would be at least ok , just hope they new ones don't have the same issues as the earlier ones

There is people that can service the mag-sealed reels now,no need for them to go back to Daiwa uk .A guy near me does them and the cost is next to nothing (Ants Reel Servicing)

Others may benefit from the feedback and the key point is you can service the Shimano yourself, Mag-Sealed, you can't

I dont think any of the top end reels are worth the money its personal choice.I know a lad who has the latest tech mgs and has had issues with 2 of his.He still won't get rid because he really likes them,Shimano and Daiwa are not worth the cost anymore really when you see what is available for a hell of a lot less money (Penn 7000's)just to name one reel

Avoid, end of.

Yep, I had them (past tense)... having owned Castizm QD's since they came out, was that 2010? I can't remember, but I have had mine near enough glued to my 12ft ES since I got them, occasionally they'd go on my 10ft Hi S... anyway, they have seen a lot of use, never missed a beat, just perfect... first session after lockdown and one of them turns into a coffee grinder. At first I thought it had grit in it, but it's Mag-Sealed, right? I cleaned the reel and resisted the temptation to strip it down, being Mag-Sealed I believe that's not an easy DIY job. The reel had to go back to Daiwa UK to be sorted out, which was a bloody nightmare. As soon as it came back, I sold all four of my Castizms, for 90% of what I paid for them.

So, my new Basias - well I was chatting to a fella I met on St.Ives last year and he has had the same Mag-Seal issue with a brand new Basia and knew someone else who also had the same issue with the new reels! That was it, I put mine on eBay and sold them within an hour, losing just a tenner a reel on the purchase price. I've now got Medium Baitrunner Ci4 + LC's to replace the Castizms and Aero Technium MGS - which are frankly excellent and just as good as the Basia 45 SCW - thankfully those I CAN service myself and will hopefully not feck up like the Daiwa. So, my advice, avoid the Daiwa like the plague and the same goes for any of their Mag-Sealed reels - plenty of issues reported on other forums in respect of their Mag-Sealed reels...

The mag seal does seem to cause problems from what I've heard on here, not personal experience. It seems like they bring a new model out every 6 months! normally virtually the same to the previous, they did it with some of their reels like the ISO's.

Keep a close eye on the mag sealing Bradders as I'm starting to see quiet a few with this failing, admittedly it seems to be on the early reels that had this fitted such as the castizms but I've had a couple of castizm baitrunners in with this issue too which are fairly recent, i wonder if it has a limited working life possibly. the give away will be a gritty feeling to the rotor on rotation and a brown oily smudge under the rotor on the magseal plate if disassembled. Once it goes it causes all sorts of problems so well worth checking the service intervals with daiwa as they will replace the ferrofluid

Yes I have got them on my Aviators and absolutely love them.It has took me a long time and alot of money to find a reel I'm happy with but these are the ones.Super smooth, nice line lay, mine won't be going anywhere soon and after the list of reels I have had in last few years that says alot
