I stand corrected....
I've just googled and found that there are Fly Travel Rods available such as the Shakespeare Agility 7 piece.
Which would break down to a tiny size.
Would be a bit of a faff for me but may suit your purpose.

I've got a couple of 9ft fly rods.
They are both 4 piece which i believe is standard.
So they are already very compact and light at approximately 2'3" per section and fit neatly in a small purpose made tube holder (which could be strapped to a rucksack with a bit of ingenuity if required).
I can't see how it would get more compact than that?
A 9ft, 6W rod is a fairly decent "middle of the road" size/weight rod to have.

Just noticed this post..

I read you want to travel light,...just an idea,have you considered a Tenkara set up ,specifically the triple zoom rods?..

I've got into this a little bit and the Japanese kebari flies,these can be used in many ways..the maxcatch range are a good option ,just a thought..I lost three nice trout,last week inthe river,but it was a good learning curve..

There's a guy on YouTube called Tenkara addict,very interesting

It’s been a long time since I was on here! I’m hoping to get back into Fly fishing but after about 12 years without touching a rod, I can barely remember where to start looking.

I’ll predominantly be fishing a 30 acre reservoir for 1-2lb rainbows with some bigger browns and tigers in there too.

I’d ideally like to get a decent travel rod to make walking there with the dog easier (so I can strap it to a rucksack) and take with me on trips more easily too.

Can anyone recommend a decent set up for such a requirement? I’ll probably stick with a floating line and I think my casting will come back quickly so I’m not after a complete beginner setup. But I can’t remember much about rod lengths (mine was 9’ 6” I think which was fine on bigger waters), the actions of rods, or the line weight ratings.

Any help would be much appreciated. I hope everyone is well!
