In reply to Post #34 Yeah not on any Goliath lakes. 60 acre lake potentially a 90 in the future with a medium barrow load of gear. Also will use it to have a leisurely stroll down a river with the mrs. Be ok for that?

In reply to Post #33 Depends where you’ll use it. You’d be fine on any lake in this country.

Is a 40lb thrust too weak for a 2.7m inflatable?

In reply to Post #31 Thank you for getting back to me, appreciated. Yeah, just some decent improvement is what I’m after... I use a similar technique in gathering a bit of speed and then lifting the motor at the last second to “freewheel” through... Can be such a pain at times and obviously leaning off the back of the boat to clear it isn’t the best... Be nice to just go through at a slower speed as it’s more stealthy, plus you miss less... Oars are great when it’s flat but not so easy in a big blow when loaded with kit...

In reply to Post #30 I think I paid about £50 in The Tackle Box. It makes a big difference, but it’s not magic! 40 yards through thick weed is a big ask. It works better if you go flat out and with a bit of pace behind you you’d probably get through.
Travelling 40 yards I would just look for a route round where the weed is thinner. If it’s really that thick I lift the prop, stand towards the front and use an oar to paddle. You see the holes better at the leisurely speed too.

In reply to Post #27 How effective is the weedless wedge please? Just watched a review on YouTube and they do look good. Will they keep you moving through 20-30-40yd sections of weed? Lifting the prop all the time to clear it is a right pain in the ‘arris!

In reply to Post #26 Have a look at an e propulsion
Bit expensive but lightweight and last for ages
No external battery or leads to trip over so more space in the boat
If I sell my petrol auxiliary outboards I’m going to buy one for my boat.

In reply to Post #26 I have a Yamaha outboard which is a Minn Kota rebranded has it wrote all over it, mine will last all week had it probably 12 years great bit of kit will find out what model later

In reply to Post #26 I use a 55lb Bison with a 100ah LifePo4. Easily good for 3/4 days and I run the echo off it too.
If the water is weedy a Minn Kota weedless wedge prop is well worth the money. Mine didn’t fit perfectly out the box but a bit of Dremel and it’s spot on.

In reply to Post #24 I'll have a look, that's not far off being half the weight of the raptor!

In reply to Post #19 Have you ever checked those boats proline makes btw? I have a Raptor myself, but I'm kind of jealous of how lightweight they are. Apparently they're great quality as well and the 2.7m version weighs only 34 kgs, which is about the maximum you can somewhat conveniently lift by yourself.

Just type in
(Dinghy transom wheels) in google 👍

In reply to Post #20 Do you have a link?👍

You can buy the wheels that go on the transom to help with the moving about to the bank 👍

In reply to Post #18 Thanks, sound advice from real world experience, just what I was after to help me make my decisions👍

In reply to Post #17 I use a 2.7m raptor wide on big public venues in France. That is ample. Like the other guy said, bloody heavy these things are. I have a 4hp Yamaha and a Minn Kota 55lb to run it. 100ah loungebox is my batt of choice. I can get a week out on that batt on Le Lot so these batts are worth looking at. When thinking about all the kit you need you also need to think about how easy it will be be to get it down to the bank and in the lake etc.

In reply to Post #16 I'm planning on fishing a large public water in the uk and hope to fish some on the continent, thought this would be the best size regarding fitting all my tackle in and being safe and stable at the same time. I'm definitely looking for advice, is it a bit big for dropping rig's out? And I guess the trade off is between size/weight of the boat and battery drain. Does it make more sense to use a 55lbft motor with a smaller boat or this size boat with the 55lbft or go to 24v ? Hoping to get it right first time😂

In reply to Post #15 68lb would be a good to have some muscle, but I assume you want more than an hour running time? I used a 54lb Endura Max a few months back while trolling for pike and kept it in 'fourth gear' for four hours on a 110 amp, with two guys (180 kg total) in a heavy iron boat. Eventually I stayed safe and didn't discharge it further, but it still had plenty left when I switched batteries. That's a big difference with bigger engines.
If you're going to be using it on French commercial lakes and in the UK though, why would you buy the 300 X-wide? I tried lifting it on a show recently and nearly broke my spine. It's 60+ KG's. Might as well buy a regular 2.5 or 4HP outboard with that if you have the storage, transport and muscle for it. Will save you a lot of hassle with charging and carrying batteries too.

In reply to Post #14 I'm looking at getting a raptor x wide 300, would a 68lb be the best option?
|
|

In reply to Post #13 i use a bison 68lb on a 110 amp batt get about 60-70 min running time
on my newest battery, my 2 older battires drops to around 40 -60mins depending were ...windy on big lake or rivers in flow drain quicker but it also depend on hull shape ridged ..airdeck....or slated..(mine)
and usually 2 people onboard...

In reply to Post #11 Raptor has them, and I've seen some other brands too a few weeks back.

|

I think a 68 runs on 24v as never seen one for 12v
|
|
|
In reply to Post #9 Imo that depends completely on the type of boat you will use, its weight and build, the amount of tackle you will be transporting and the types of waters you are going to be fishing.
Also, and I may be completely mistaken, a few years back there were hardly any 68/70/74/80 lbs outboards running on 12v. I used a 74 and an 80 over the years, and they always ran on 24v. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that a 68lb will drain your battery in no time.

In reply to Post #8 👍 do you also recommend getting a 55lb thrust?
|
|
|
In reply to Post #7 Both build quality and reliability.
Everybody appears to making them these days. Fox, Raptor, Proline, Shakespeare and some other brands I've never heard of. I really can't imagine they have the same properties as Minn Kota, market leader for decades. I had a Haswing and a Motorguide too and even those didn't come close in terms of reliability. Overall, I think MK is much smoother, more robust (also in its cruising properties) and it is far less likely to break. I'm not sure about those Endura's though (their cheapest models) but my traxxis, powerdrive and maxxum all lasted me longer than 10 years, without any form of service, and I've used them year-round for carp and pike.

In reply to Post #6 Why only Minn kota, build quality or reliability?

In reply to Post #5 Had quite some outboards in my life. Would never go for anything other than Minn Kota anymore.

In reply to Post #3 I also have a bison 55 I am impressed with it. I also had a minkota 3hp which was more powerful but the difference in price is vast. I would go for the bison if I was you.

I'm looking at buying an electric outboard, what size do people recommend 40,55 or 68lbft thrust? Also any recommendations regarding manufacturers? Initially I'll be using it on small boats found at french commercials before I get my own boat, maybe 300 size?
