To add some balance to this thread. I had some rods and net built by Chris a few years back and I can't fault the quality of the workmanship.

Rods were built to the timelines agreed and he let me borrow a test rod before committing to an order under complete trust. I never left a deposit or met Chris before and he still let me take away one of his rods.

Sad to hear that his time commitments are not as good as they should be as his workman ship and attention to detail is really good.

To be fair , its more of a warning than a bash... I wouldnt want people parting with their hard earned money to end up bitterly disappointed

All the glue and resin everywhere, he's probably high as a kite most days, touch something and you'll end up like a fly caught in a web, as I found to my cost.

The bloke is a right piss taker, I wouldn't mind betting your missing rod was one of the many in the corner of his work shed at the bottom of his garden, an absolute mess in there.

To add balance, I had a set from him last year. After 2 weeks I was informed they would be approximately 1week late due to back order on the reel seats, and true to his word they were 1week late. They quality is superb, and I am more than happy with them and would use chris again

I've always kept my mouth shut , I assumed it was a one off
as ive never heard anyone else say a bad word

in 2009 he built me a lovely set of 3x 12ft rods
I can complain about them they are great
but I also gave him my grandfathers rod to repair or at least quote on repairing

I gave up chasing after two years
and I still have never heard from him or never got the rod back

I had the same issue with some with some Torrixs he was building for me, I needed them in a rush for a gigantica trip in 4-6 weeks. He said could do it so I went round to discuss and order, that was in June, I collected the rods in May the following year. 11 months later and the excitement of custom built rods was long gone to the point I didn’t really want them anymore, but £1180 worth had to use them. Don’t get me wrong they are nice rods but after that amount of time I would rather of just got them off the shelf.

I had the same problems with Chris Orme too, albeit some time ago now. It's a shame because his work is really good..

Think I'm going for Cotsword for my new custom build rods or Free spirit.

I had exactly the same experience the beginning of the year, that **** cant even lie straight in bed. After waiting 6 months for something I was told would take 2 I gave up, I wouldn't touch Chris Orme with a barge pole.

7 months of having my money to then be told he'd only got the butt sections of my rods ... constant lies about time of build then waiting for this then waiting for that ... absolutely shocking service all this after being told 12 weeks tops

Yep, pretty sure that was them. Initially there was only one rod however. The build time was ridiculous as he had trouble importing the blanks. This was about 3 years ago.

Assume he had the 13ft 3.75tc, there are six rods in the range plus spod and marker rods and landing net.

Mate of mine had the first pair Chris built. Very stiff, bit like the old FMJ but not as heavy. Pure distance rods, and not that nice to play fish on, but will cast to the moon in the right hands.
