ive just got the standard bivvy, set it up in garden for summut to do last night, must admit, im extremely impressed with it.

contrary to belief, their "sponsored" anglers aren't paid, only the ones who actually work for RM and are employed.
like its been said before, no one is forcing anyone to buy any one companies products, life is full of choices...simple as that

Yeah i agree. For me the whole point of an overnighter shelter is speed of set up, good cover and light weight. So the compact version of these seems a bit of a waste of time to me. But if i fished long stay, or a lot of weekends, or abroad and was a bigger guy then I can see why people would be interested in the bigger 2 man models.

Let’s face it a long stay session isn’t much different to a weeks camping, and most people who take camping seriously wouldn’t try to camp for a week in a low, cramped one room tent. So i reckon these big models will end up selling really well.

I bought a Titan whatever model 3 years back with winter wrap for around 350 together.Call it 400. No issues yet and it's seen some right old downpours and that's without the wrap but point taken.
It would be a real bummer to spend a grand only to find the same **** going on.
Rex, it is a Oztent of sorts by the look of things. The 1 man compact doesn't appear to offer much over anything else similar on the market except the mark up.

I thought they had done some sort of deal with Oz tents, and I think camperists rate them. So hopefully this will be a product thats good from the off. Unlike a lot of others

Toaster importing cowboys who have obviously drummed up some investment and are throwing the kitchen sink at it to take market share from the big boys. If they were cash rich they wouldn’t be taking pre-orders for the bivvies. My prediction for what it’s worth: They’ll run out of money and go belly up in less than 5 years.

I've had the ridge monkey bivvy light since they 1st came out and its been great
Bought a NGT one as it was cheap as a spare and lent it to my son and it gave up after about 4 months
Bought a couple of gorilla cases recently as they were being sold cheap and do what they are meant to do - Yep ... I agree I most probably could have got something similar cheaper but Im happy with them

I have to say, I am not big on RM anymore.
Had a few bits of their kit and its nothing special. Just costs way more than other brands and for that reason I don't buy it anymore.

In my humble opinion, you can buy far better for far less than they charge these days. The do like to charge top dollar for all their kit.

Just look at the silly prices they are charging for their new line of bivvy's.

why anyone would go to rm for hooks, line or bivvys is beyond me. there are companys that do these specific items and have done for many years...yes they have to start somewhere but dont charge a premium price for an untested bivvy.
the only things theyve done themselves are crap, the buckets are moulded in a way that it takes ya nails off, the square cooker has no pre heat tube and failed very badly with flare ups.
the lights are rebadged, the toastie makers rebadged.
everything they do I regard as ***** get rich cheap nasty churn them out forbPenny's and charge top dollar for them.

are they like any other tackle company that are trying to make a living?? probably not but rm just dont cut it for me.

I don't think he meant the sponsored anglers are 'cash rich' I think he means that the company themselves are throwing their cash around. As far as I can see I don't think any famous anglers are 'rich', maybe 3 or 4 are doing pretty well (Fairbrass, Nash etc.) but that's about it.

In terms of RM themselves I think throwing cash at marketing is the only way you're going to break in to a really well established market and build a following. That or release something truly unique (e.g. Spomb) but that very rarely happens.

With the amount of cash RM are spending at the moment they'll be making huge losses, no where near breaking even. I doubt they'll make a profit until they eventually dial their spending back but they can't do that until they're truly established in the market. I'm guessing their model is once they've done that their products have big enough margins that they'll turn a profit fairly quickly.

To be fair i have only bought two items from Ridgemonkey , the first obviously was the toaster , it fell apart within 4 weeks , i bought the braid for 3 reels ie 3 spools , pretty much that fell apart too, frayed very badly and snapped like cotton on a take , needless to say i don't do Ridgemonkey anymore. I did send mail, was told to send back , when i buy something i want to use it not send back so now just do not bother buying any of their ***** .

You have to laugh dont you, cash rich? You have never mixed or worked with "cash rich " people have you?

Pro anglers? again laughable, i wouldn't get out of bed for what these so called pro anglers earn, in the main poorly educated Muppet's trying to feed their kids and wife via **** bait and cheap Chinese Nash/Fox.Ridgemonkey imports.

If your jealous of Ridgemobkey then you need to set your sights and aspirations somewhat higher than a bunch of brass plating pirates, one mans cash rich is another mans cash poor.

Work for ? the only people working for RM are the poorly paid Chinese knocking the **** out they sell, get a grip mate. All you need is a good accountant and a half decent mug doing the marketing, trust me i know, i've helped complete idiots make millions.

I hope you know I wasnt having a dig at them just being nosey

I'm just getting new gear to start again after a long break and I'm sure many of there products will be in my tackle when all said and done

I love there videos o YouTube also great to see people enjoying themselves also in one swim as you say I've never been lucky enough to go anywhere home or abroad where you can move on to fish like many others say as I work during the week

My intrest was purely nosey as they seem to be everywhere and if the prices are expensive and they back that with customer service I say good on them cause I would rather have that than someone you can never get again when buying cheap

No bashing them please guys wasnt the reason for this post

I like ridgemonkey. Ive got quite a few of their items and they’ve all done what I wanted. People complain about their carp tax, yes I’m sure if i went online for god knows how long then I could find some nice Chinese man to eventually send me a sandwich toaster, but I’m not ****ing about like that to save myself a tenner.

The one time I had an issue with a spring in a handle, I sent them a quick email, I had no receipt as it was a present, no problem, pair of new handles turns up FOC a week later. Absolutely no issue.

It used to be fashionable for people to bash Korda, that seems to have died off a bit and now I hear a lot of negativity around ridgemonkey.

Yes they might be cash rich, but so what, a lot of those guys are putting in a lot of hours to earn their money. If covid hadn’t happened they were meant to be doing about 15 shows all over Europe this year. That’s a long time to be away from your family, I think anyone doing that would expect to be cash rich for all that effort, how many people on here would give up fifteen weekends a year for their job?

I dont really get the comments about it being all about clever marketing. That’s business, isn’t that the point? Grow brand awareness, increase market share, if people like the products they will continue to buy them.

Also ridgemonkey are being very clever. Korda and Nash have gone down the scale down, minimalist route, little tackle boxes, tiny rods, micro brollies etc. Ridgemonkey have said **** that, who’s catering for guys who want to camp for 48hrs with no intention of moving, or European anglers on long stay. Big bivvys, big buckets, big everything, loads of gadgets and accessories, cos weight don’t matter when you are parking your transit behind a swim for a fortnight.

It’s not just marketing, they’ve been successful cos they’ve tapped into a market that others weren’t catering for.

How many are full time? Most sponsored anglers still have full time jobs. Very few make a living from angling and fewer still a good living.
