In reply to Post #33 There not my local but went in the other day, still got it

Bought 99% of my gear through Anthony at JR and not once had a problem. Custom built rods through Vic are arguably the best built in the country.
After having all my gear nicked about 10 years ago (about £11000 worth), I went back in there a few weeks ago and was pleased to see that the shop is still going strong. I will definitely be going back in to order all my stuff from Johnson Ross now that my 16 year old has caught the fishing bug.
Prices are competitive so I don't quite understand a previous comment about deals. Professional advice goes a long way in my opinion, especially when buying expensive rods, reels, bivvies etc. Would rather pay a premium and get the rods and reels I need 1st time than buy something that doesn't quite fit the bill and have to go through the process again later down the line.
As you can guess, I'm a huge Johnson Ross Tackle shop fan.

In reply to Post #31 Best shop out there, second to none.

In reply to Post #30 excellent shop - stock levels have been a problem with some things but that's not their fault given the global pandemic.. i'd rather you could search on the website without having to filter by brand every time though

Just to balance things up, this is not a complaint or a moan but I'm pointing out everyone makes mistakes.
2 of my last 3 orders I've had to call JR, both after a couple of days had not been dispatched (very unlike them)
The first they could not explain but apologised and sent next day. The second one item was not in stock, someone was supposed to call and ask if I'd accept an alternative. Sadly that someone forgott.

In reply to Post #25 I used them 1st time a few weeks ago ... goods arrived within 2 days all packed great and everything there ... what more could I ask for. Then again I have used a few online companies over the years and I can't think of one that has messed up an order. If you want the business in such a competitive market you have to get it right. Few will post comments when a service is good but mess up and the power of the internet can ruin you so they have to be bang on with price and service.

In reply to Post #20 Have been using them for a good while now, always in stock and the postage costs are reasonable.
The actual store isn't too far away from me, ended up over that way this week. For some reason I thought there were in Sheffield!
Popped in to swap over some line I bought online (ordered the wrong BS). No hassles.
Had a look around, it's like Aladdin's carp cave. Helped myself to another 50 quids worth of bits Obviously didn't really need half of it, but you know what it's like.
Staff seem knowledgeable, welcoming as soon as I walked in.

In reply to Post #1 Been using them for years for all major purchases, currently waiting on a new set of rods from them, fantastic service 10/10.

Another thumbs up for Johnson Ross. Hands down the best tackle shop in UK. IMO. Great website with very knowledgeable staff. Quick delivery too.

In reply to Post #1 Just to add to the positive reviews on JR from an expat perspective.
Pre-COVID, I was always amazed how fast my order reached me (North Carolina, USA). Routinely faster than domestic UPS, Fedex or USPS.
Great online stock, no VAT for expat orders.
I wish Anthony and the team the best in these continuing challenging times.

In reply to Post #15 I will not buy my gear anywhere else, just superb and everything is always in stock as they have a live order picking system.
Would rather pay more than use Total Fishing Tackle or AD, terrible service when I have ever used them.
10 out of 10 from me

In reply to Post #1 I always use them, even though they are miles away from where I live. They have a great website which is really easy to navigate and their service is second to none.

I especially use JR if I'm spending a lot of wedge online but also sometimes for smaller items when they tend to be the only place that has stock, always been totally reliable, definitely one of the best out there

In reply to Post #8 It really is a great shop. Has that traditional feel to it with nooks and crannies all over. Tip top service from decent guys. I'll always tip my hat off to the three brothers as they've done a sterling job with that shop.

In reply to Post #6 They don’t need to discount because their service is one of if not the best
I would rather pay for exceptional service before a discount and get crappy after sales service
Look at the shops who get slated and Why

In reply to Post #6 In these Covid times shipping costs have gone through the roof and courier companies are making a killing.
The large company I work for has seen shipping cost triple.
Some companies like Johnson Ross simply cannot afford to do this as they have a headcount / rent / business rates etc to pay which online shops don't have
If you don't want to support British companies in these difficult times good luck.
I very much enjoy going to Johnson Ross it's the people there that make the difference and if it's going to cost me more that some faceless online company well I don't care.
It will be a sad day if all tackle shops disappear - we have to think about the future and the businesses in it

In reply to Post #5 When certain shops discount where others cannot, it can be a matter of time before the shop(s) that do not discount will go out of business. Some cannot afford to do discounts.
Also buying power of the bigger shops vs smaller shops, turnover etc

Yes a brilliant shop but i can never seem to get any good deals through them for some reason that's why I normally go elsewhere if buying more expensive stuff.

In reply to Post #1 Impeccable service, sales and after. Monday morning ordered 3 reels on line , then rang and asked to spool them up, arrived completely done by 11.00am Tuesday , first class, others could learn from them

In reply to Post #1 They have always been fantastic especially with aftersales, unlike another tackle shop based in Dartford that use SAH... Bought a V1 Tempest from them, used it 3 times & the mossi mesh in the front panels started to tear as well as the tapes coming away from the seams. Never had any bivvy do that before including owning original Nash Titan's which were notorious for it. They tried to tell me it was user error & put away wet - bearing in mind it was middle of summer & had no rain since before I had bought it & the issues happening. Trakker didn't want to deal with it either & kept telling me to take it back to where I got it from for them to sort out. The Dartford shop wanted to send it to Army Andy & expected me to pay for the repairs. Lets just say for a shop that so-called prides itself on customer service, I would hate to see what they think is bad!
If I need anything now mail order, Johnson Ross or Yateley Angling are the 2 I will go to now - as if one hasn't got it, the other usually has. I have driven the 200 mile round trip to Johnson Ross for bits I needed urgently for a holiday before (obviously after making sure they had the bits in stock)

In reply to Post #1 always had impeccable service from them. Not the cheapest but fair prices nonetheless and always seem to have the stock advertised.

I must say, what a great service.
Long story short, I ordered an inflatable boat / outboard motor back in April with the boat not being in stock. They immediately told me there was a wait on the boat as it wasn’t it stock. I ended up cancelling the boat as I sourced one elsewhere.
The service I received was second to none even at these difficult times. I also received a full refund for the boat and they knocked 10% off the motor which I didn’t even ask for. I am gob smacked.
I can now understand that whenever I go into the shop it is ALWAYS busy, not just with carp anglers but match anglers too. All the staff are very helpful, friendly and knowledgable, A* service.
If you need any gear, defiantly check them out first, I can’t rate them high enough and I’m a hard one to please!
