Afternoon all

In reply to Post #1 One of the mistakes beginners make is thinking the reason they don't catch is the bait. 99% of the time its because you have got the location wrong.
If you can choose a proven bait - Mainline Cell is a great example - and stick with it, that's one variable that you don't need to worry about. Focus on putting it in the right place.
If over time you end up using more bait, and want it a bit cheaper then you can start looking at some of the 'direct to consumer' companies - you'll need to buy 10-20kg minimum to make it cost effective really. I would recommend the following
Baitworks
ABS
Premier
Oxford Carp Baits
Aqua Baits
RG Baits
Essential Baits
(there's others too -these are just the ones that come to mind that I know are quality)
Personally I've used Premier's 'Matrix Plus' for years - I have total faith in it.

If it’s a runs water I would be on particles mate cheaper to get competition going there ain’t a fish that swims that won’t eat hemp and maize. Just give it a go nothing to lose.
Ahhhh I see it now in reply to post 31 My bad I do apologise
In reply to Post #48 He is replying to post 31 which mentions Nash bait
In reply to Post #46 I tend to catch more on boilies and pellets there mate
Post 40 put awful bait stay clear
Or maybe he ment mainline I have no idea
In reply to Post #42 Where does it say baitworks is awful bait
I would just use maize if it’s that type of venue mate. Or if you wanted knock a spodmix up some hemp and maize. It’s cheap and will probably out fish boilies on a match type venue
In reply to Post #44 Its got 2 trout lakes, a pleasure, match lake but there is a 20 in there, and had a carp lake i just do the pleasure lake i usually get doubles everytime
Is it a match type lake or a carp fishery
In reply to Post #42 I was using it on a vey well stocked lake pleasure lake 20,s are the top weight in that lake they werent having it mate. Alot use crafty catcher crab and squid and are gtting results thats why i was thinking mainline
Baitworks a awful bait?. I have never had any issues with the bait at all and it’s definitely not awful. Depending on the water your fishing a 3 session blank isn’t nothing to be worried about. If your putting it in the right place and presenting the rig well it will catch you fish. If most people are using fruit type baits and lots of mainline going in I would definitely be using a bait that is nothing like there’s.
In reply to Post #40 Yeah ihabe always looked on sticky krill never gone for it also heard top things about the dna s7 with the s7 pellets i wont be using no gluggs just standard boilies and pellets in pva bags keeping it simple for now
In reply to Post #31 Awful bait I would stay well clear
Personally I’d pay a bit more and get a decent bait you can get decent quality bait for £6/£7 a kg which in my opinion ain’t bad, try sticky krill mate can get it at decent prices (my go to bait) if not my second choice would be dna s7 definitely worth a look both of them mate
In reply to Post #36 Yeah i know mate any ideas
In reply to Post #37 Ive used baitworks atlantic heat dipped glugged with matching stick mix and pellets and had nothing 3 sessions mate theres something about the atlantic heat theyr just not having it. Scent from heaven is more citrus maybe that would be better ?
If your going to be fishing the same water all year I would give mainline and Nash instant action a miss mate. Get on a decent food bait and it will work for you all year. This ain’t a bait plug but I have used baitworks stuff for years but just recently decided to roll my own. There stuff is cheap enough as well a friend done really well on monster red over the winter. I have used both Atlantic heat and royal marine 50/50 over the last few seasons seem to have caught more on royal marine but be aware it stinks to high heaven.
In reply to Post #35 Better of paying 6-7£ a kg and using less bait. Be more beneficial Long term for you and the fish.
In reply to Post #31 I was looking on to get that deal but heard bad stuff bout them

Total fishing tackle are doing a sale on Nash instant action shelf life Boilies 9.99 for 2.5 kg it work out at £4 per kg....I've not used these Boilies and cannot advise if there any good but for that price it's gotta be worth a punt
In reply to Post #29 Yeah thats what i think is best do you think the bait theyl have in the shop is best fit for their lake
In reply to Post #28 Is there a tackle shop local to the lake? worth asking their advice if so. Have a look at some of the baits they have and make a decision based on that.
I'd still just choose one and stick with it though personally.

In reply to Post #27 I thing im guna fo for the cell bait mate i have spoken to few and they say crafty catcher scooex squid workd very well there so does pinapple boilies

Hi. As already said if Tuttis' a going bait, its as good a starting point as anywhere. It has a proven track record but dont forget Mainlines idea of Tutti frooty isnt gonna be the same as Richworths.. Cell again is another with a proven history, along with Activ8. Baits tend to be very fashionable for a while until the next best one comes along... Such was the case with Cell, then the Hybrid came along with The Krill and then Manilla. All very good baits and will still work. Have you asked anglers fishing your chosen venues what baits are actually working as opposed to being used... Nearly ALL baits will catch but take note of which one(s) are producing the better results.
Dont get sucked in by the hype!

In reply to Post #1 Lots of good advice here mate (and plenty more on the Bait forum if you want to have a look) but i would stick to one bait rather than a different one on each rod personally.
Up to you as to manufacturer though if you want mainline then i would just go for the cell (though not personally used it). I'd imagine almost every open access ish type water (be it club lake or day ticket) will have seen some of it.
if you want to then you can play around with different flavour hookbaits over the top.
If you have to used shelf lifes (not that there is anything wrong with that, especially these days) then if you stick to any of the major manufacturers then you probably wont go far wrong.
Baitworks/Sticky/Mainline/Active Bait services/CCMoore/Dynamite etc.
Get confidence in using a bait and concentrate on the location side. all the above will catch fish.
As mentioned, if you have the space ability to get 10/20 kilos of shelf life (provided you can keep it cool and out of sun light) or freezer bait (if you can) then it will work out cheaper.

In reply to Post #24 used the spicy crab impact boilie in 2014 caught loads on it out of hard water .All mainline top catchers

In reply to Post #22 Think of Carp as the pigs of the lake, surprising what they eat

In reply to Post #22 Hahahahaha cool ok mate thanks

In reply to Post #21 Don't worry about different flavours. Flavours catch more anglers than fish
In reply to Post #20 Nice one mate top advice. Thats what im doing just seeing other anglers on here got good results on certain flavours i understand with the marketing point of things thats why i came here tbh

If you are new to carp baits you must understand that just because somebody is photographed with a big fish saying it was caught on bait X, it may have been or quite possibly wasn't.
Flavours really are there to make it smell nice to us. "Cor, that smells dead carpy" is oft heard amongst the clan but what does a live freshwater shrimp, caddis, snail or seed from a tree smell like - underwater and to a carp? Yes, some flavours work well but good base mixes will catch just as well. The flavour just gives it a signature enabling you to switch it about if bites dry up.
Personally, I've been using Quest Baits for a few years and have done very well on them (but buy other makes when the deal is right). Shelf life at £6.50 a kilo and a good range to try if needed. Having said that, I've done very well with a completely different flavoured wafter from another company fished over a bed of their boilies.
Don't get too hung up on a single make or flavour. Carp eat pretty much most of them. If you do get a few results on one type/flavour/size/colour.... stick to it because you will be using the best hook bait of all - confidence

no mate its more of a coconut type

In reply to Post #13 Is the cell fruity type smell mate
In reply to Post #16 Ive heard the lake i fish they love pineapple amd tutti type baits mate
In reply to Post #1 If I had to use any high impact mainline shelf life, my choice would be high leakage pineapple or 50/50 Fruitella mate.
In reply to Post #6 If you are just doing days in winter, the most important choice is the water, make sure you are fishing a water with a solid winter rep. I would use the cell in very small amounts and experiment later in spring. Sorry but that's my thinking.
In reply to Post #11 As James has said below, get 10-20kg of freezer bait if you have the space. Most companies will deliver for around £6-7 per kg.
I use ABS Hydra-K and can't recommend it enough. Any ABS bait will catch if fished effectively.
In reply to Post #12 If you insist on using Mainline Baits , i would run with The Cell mate , still catches a hell of a lot of fish.
Get a decent freezer bait mate. Probably half the prize per kg and twice as good if you buy 10 plus kilos.
In reply to Post #10 Im not totally new to fishing carp i have done many sessions on 3 rods, im just still learning more about baits and what companies to go for and that i mainly fish bottom baits just getting into trial and error tbh. Yes that is good advice find the fish as at start i use to just prebait 1 area without locating the fish
In reply to Post #6 If you're new to carp fishing you shouldn't be fishing three rods imo. Concentrate fishing one then two rods effectively first. Location of fish and good angling is more important than your choice of bait.
In reply to Post #8 Yes they do S7 bottom baits, pellets I use crayfish mini mix but if using bigger pva bags I add a few small low oil pellets from a local animal feed shop
In reply to Post #7 Do they do the s7 as bottom baits, what pellets would you recommend with them when ive been going ive been using matching pellets with the bottom bait boilie crished in pva bags withabit of pellets.
In reply to Post #6 I have used manilla and not found it as good as krill.Im changing to dna baits this year and will only be using the S7 but have some different pots of wafters and pop ups as hook baits to fish over the S7
In reply to Post #5 I was only going to try them up on reviews sticky manilla too . Im just new to carp fishing you see and theres soo many bait as you know. Im not going to be doing 24 hour sessions just day tickets through winter and wanted a bait i could have confidence in with good catch results in this cold weather! What would you recommend i want 3 different flavours really as il be fishin*3 rods
In reply to Post #4 If you are adamant on trying the mainline range,I would go for salty squid, banoffee and the ib I think they are called.I dont use mainline anymore as far better baits at much better prices imo
In reply to Post #2 Theres just so many flavours i was hoping someone has used them and could let me know if they had any good results as im not into glugging or other stuff as im new to carping want to go for trial and error before buying gluggs and that
In reply to Post #2 Yes i am i dont really mind the price im just going to try out 3 different flavours for 3 rods was thinkin what flavours would you go for.
In reply to Post #1 I’m guessing you are going to buy these in a tackle shop in kilo bags?
Mainline bait is normally quite pricey. You might find that something from say dynamite works out cheaper and just as good.
Hi guys anyone used any of the high impact mainline baits
Want to try new bait for this year and have heard good stuff about these any good tips on flavours im new to carp fishing
