Yep, thats the one you need & allows you to fish across the country in most departments. Some don’t have a reciprocal arrangement but pretty much covers you all over France.

Hi, been going to France for the last ten years or so, but have always fished the same region and generally bought a holiday permit for that area, planning on doing a few more trips this year in multiple regions, dose the 'Carte Personne majeure ou Interfédérale' allow this or do i need to add different regions to it, tried reading the carte de peche website but couldn't work it out

I have been banging my head against this (insecure) website for over an hour now.

I have managed to register, and in the process discovered what UK is in French...

I am a little confused as it keeps asking me to select an association. I'm trying to buy a national license and strangely enough I am not a member of any French fishing associations...

I got to the payment page and was told of the impossibility of finalizing payment.

Has anyone managed to get it to work for a national permit? I really don't want to go poaching in France what with Brexit hostility and Macron's wasps buzzing about!

Out of interest does the 7 day holiday permit cover all departments or just the one you've bought it in and
If anyone's registering on the cartedepeche site for a license put your post code in last otherwise it won't have it

I'm off to a French river soon and have just got my French licence on-line. It was so easy to complete. you have to create an account first before filling in the appropriate boxes, a quick web cam pick, pay and job done. They then send one to your e-mail address for you to print off. Or pay €4 for them to send it to you. Mine arrived really quckly in the post in a nice little orange wallet. They do several licences. One cost about €80 which allows you to fish anywhere in france where permitted. The 2nd one is a yearly one for the specific area of fishing. They do a weekly one for 30 euros & a daily ticket for about 9 Euro if i remember. They even do an OAP ticket, one for juniors and one for women. I will always use this now as it will save me pissing around in the local tabaconist or fishing shop missing vital fishing time.
If your having issues with translating French into English, then download Google Chrome on your PC or LAPTOP and it will bring up a bar at the top of the page offering to translate the page into English for you.
Remember people to select the right area to fish and whether its for category 1 or 2. YOU WANT CATEGORY 2 to fish 3 or 4 rods.
Hope this helps

The "rules" dont often stipulate just carp...there are no other species allowed to be caught at night anywhere in France....at least until one of the more forward looking Federations changes that.

Fishing for any other species at night is poaching whatever baits you use. Ofcourse when fishing the public rivers and lakes, you inevitably catch a few BBC whilst carp fishing, but should not be a problem with the garde de peche...so long as you seem to be fishing for carp and the fish are not being kept for eating.

Even the odd Pike and Zander will take a boilie. One carp angler caught a 20lb plus Zander on a boilie from a local stretch last summer....

As night fishing is a relatively new departure for most French federations., the rules often stipulate just carp.
But there is also a bait stipulation that excludes live baits.
However boilies & pellets are allowed and we all know haw most other speices, catfish, barbel, chub etc all like these.
We regularly fish for barbel at night with boilies and pellets.
cheers
Gareth

Fished the Yonne last year, and bought a licence on line. Fairly easy to do, although making sure my licence covered the right area stretched me a bit. Definitely easier than buying one from the local tabac which I've done in the past.

Public waters just means that you have a right to access and fish them...on the carte de peche. The dates and size regulations depend on species and which department you are in. In my department night fishing is 24/7/365, but this is not the case elsewhere.

Only carp at night and theroetically only with vegetable based baits (boilies even if fishmeal based are considered as vegetable baits though). All night fishing was considered poaching previously and still is by some people, but with the growth of carp fishings popularity, night fishing zones were introduced to cater solely for the carp anglers.

Now that the catfishing is really taking off, some Federations are considering opening night fishing for them, although it a little more tricky to set up, as livebaiting, deadbaiting and lure fishing don't just target the cats. As Pike, Zander and Perch are very popular species over here and the quarry of predeliction for the majority of the members of the local AAPPMA's (most of their budgets go into restocking these species and trout) I can't see any form of fishing with baits that might take a few of their precious carnivores, being allowed at night.

Having discussed this at recent meetings of my local AAPPMA, I can't see it happening any time soon on our local waters. Personally I have been arguing for a fair crack of the whip for all anglers that wish to fish at night....as the current situation with carp only being allowed is the cause of some resentment from other anglers.

There are as you point out quite a few rules, but most of them are there for very good reasons, such to protect stocks during spawning etc.....Mind you having had a look at some the rules lists on the private carp lakes, I would say that there are less restrictions on all but a very few, if any public waters.

Thanks Guy, why only carp fish at night and from what I can tell it is only on certain dates!

What about waters marked public, are these open for all fishing without restriction? Most of the Saone is is marked as public access waters apart from the areas near to the source.

PS, French federations appear to have more rules than Golf !

1ere Catégorie are generally fast flowing rivers, or lakes that contain predominantly Salmonids.
2ieme Catégorie slower flowing rivers and lakes that contain predominantly coarse fish.

There are very few 1ere Category waters that will hold much in the way of carp.

You can only fish at night for Carp (not Cats, although this may change in the future from I have been hearing) and then only in areas specifically designated as night fishing zones (parcours peche de nuit, often refered to as PDN's).

You will have to check out the Haute Soane Federations website for dates of opening, and night fishing zones etc...I tried to take a look for you, but the site seems to be offline at the moment.

Can anyone explain the significance of 1st and 2nd cat waters for the French licence.

Specifically looking at Upper Saone dept 70 in March.
All the literature is for game fishing, what can be fished for and when?
Can you fish for Carp/Cats at any time on any water?
