In reply to Post #761 AUP everyone.
Long time lurker who has finally joined up.
Real name is Ash (bennysamways is my Instagram, sorry!) and Ive been an angler for 35 years in an around Bedfordshire, 20 on the rivers chasing barbel and chub whilst the last 10 or 15 years have been almost exclusively carp fishing.
Love this forum; mainly the pics that Mark puts up in the SS hook bait thread (of which a couple of mine are in there!).
I'm obsessed but take it about as seriously as Chris Yates does.

A returning member, according to my profile I joined January 2006 quite possibly earlier.
Gave up carp fishing 10 years ago mostly due to family and work commitments,
I was having clear out in my loft and thought I'd better start using that gear again.
Probably take a few day ticket sessions to get the bug back, failing that spend the winter as a keyboard angler waiting for fair weather.
Ain't getting any younger

Hi all
Old member returning to the forum after a few years away from Fishing. Becoming a grandad and my love of 2 (and 4) wheels has used up a lot of my time.
Having been a member of SDAA (Shefford and District Angling) for many years then moving to the Priory in Weston for a few, I took a couple of years away (unintentionally, it just happened).
I am back on the SDAA ticket and am hoping to get some more time on the bank.

Hi all, new to this forum but seem to remember a few names from the cemex days.
Still getting out a bit now & then but fish for other species to break it up a bit.
Don't do face book or any of that stuff ,have lurked around here on & off decided to take the plunge so be gentle.

In reply to Post #749 After a hiatus of better part of a decade, apart from yearly lure trips I’ve started on the canals just to see if the spark is still there, unsurprisingly it is so. It won’t be long before the garage is full of gear. As commented before quite a few faces from the old Cemex days, looking forward to it

Finally able to post. Hi all.
Some names on here that I recognise from the old Cemex forum days.
|
|
|
I'm not new, but I am back
Took a long break from carp fishing with just a dabble now and then, did a lot of barbel fishing, Tenkara, sea fishing and whatever else presented itself.
I always was an angler who fished for everything.
But now, I find myself with a yearning for carp again.
Been putting the gear back together again - just need reels and a cradle and I'm good to go. And I've already paid for the reels, but it would seem I'm being ripped off lol.
Anyway, I see a few familiar faces are still here
|
|
|
Getting back into carping after a very loooong time away.
It's more sophisticated (rigs) now and waaaaay more expensive but there's a lot to learn and a lot more to spend .... should be fun !

Hi all, newbie here.
Just joined the forum but I've been carp fishing for 10+ years after my youngest badgered me into taking him fishing then lost interest. I of course was hooked!
I fish when I can, never enough and I prefer quiet venues where I can enjoy the peace and quiet and maybe catch one or two.
PB (if it matters) 39.10 Common
Thanks

In reply to Post #738 oy oy, northwest here, just getting back into fishing after a long break, am only going to be a day session angler, way to old now for really long sessions.
have still got my old course gear and have started picking up a few bits and bobs(wow how quickly stuff has changed/progressed) to get me a bit more into the carp side of things.
got a small local water to fish, nothing really big in it but hopefully enough to keep me busy.
tight lines to all.

Decided to concentrate on carp fishing with the occasional coarse fishing day every now and again
Still feel very much a novice but learning all the time and look forward to contributing to the forums where I can

I am a British (well dual-nationality now) angler living in France.

Currently buying new kit ready for after summer when il be able to get out a few nights a week.
Probably look for a few smaller local waters to get back into things, this area is completely new to me obviously Yateley ain’t to far of a drive but want to get back into the swing of things 1st get a bend in the rod. Any recommendations for decent clubs around Hampshire? Thanks 👌

Hello all
Well I'm certainly not "new to the forum" but I have been MIA for a few years after moving to Toronto, Canada.
I have been on and off fishing since being here (moved in 2007) and haven't posted on here since 2015, I now have two kids so it has made my fishing very sparse, like 2 or 3 times a year, the seasons are pretty short because of the cold weather which also doesn't help.
Bait making was always a big thing and after moving to Canada I discovered that its a huge struggle to get any of the boilie ingredients, plus most of the carp here have never seen a hook or bait in their life so naturals like maize works extremely well, plus its very difficult to prebait a water as vast as lake Ontario
I sort of switches hobbies and started brewing beer and entering competitions. I really miss the fishing and carp scene (which is almost non existent here in Canada) and decided that its time to concentrate on the hobby that I really love and is a lot more healthy.
I do miss the bait making and the Canadian Carp Club has started stocking CC Moores baits and ingredients so I'm now excited with the thought of making my own base mixes again and catching on my baits again, even if they are going to cost a fortune with the prices of the ingredients due the Canadian Carp Club having to pay to ship them over here. . There are still a few months to go before its warm enough to get onto the back on to the bank but I'm super buzzing..
Just wanted to drop in and say a "Hello again, I'm back" to the old timers who remember me, and a Hi to those who have joined since I went MIA.
Its good to be back.

In reply to Post #696 Hi,
I'm new to the forum (even though I have been browsing around for the past few months) and I am pleased to be part of such community. I have been fishing for carp for more than 10 years, however, in the past couple of years, I did not get much fishing as I used to do due to time and space reasons (i.e. loads of tackle). Based in Cambridge right now and currently building a day-roving setup for short - but hopefully successful carp sessions. Looking to improve my knowledge of carp rigs adapted to British waters.
Cheers!

Good afternoon all, hope you are all keeping safe and well in this glorious sunshine 😊 ive got the fishing bug back after watching countless hours of Chris Yates and Wilson, only snag Is I've only ever specialised in fishing on rivers for Barbel ect
Have never been one for fishing a hole dug in the ground surrounded by 50 other fisherman/fisherwomen(latter would not be so bad) looking for some where with a bit of character and some decent fish to learn pool & lake fishing
Which leads me to my question
Where on earth are there any decent pools lakes near longbridge Birmingham area? Willing to travel beyond those areas of course.
Sorry If it's long winded folks but any help guidance would be glad appreciated
Stay safe all
Kind regards marvoulous barbless

In reply to Post #662 another new joiner here - been lurking for a while.
Recently got back into Carp fishing after 10 years off - a lot has changed since I was in my 20's. Been back at it since last June.
Based in Leeds, so not millions of lakes around, but seem like some great ones still need to try to get on.

In reply to Post #660 Hi Guys
Been lurking around since discovering this forum in the summer
I'm another of those "Returnee's"... having previously fished as a kid/youth back in the 70's & 80's
Then a (very) long break - where did those years go eh?
Got back into it this year - amazing how much has changed.
And I'm now fully obsessed - and getting into the carp side of things.... no serious experience here, best is only 16 lb, but keen to improve (despite being an old git LOL)
Just splashed out on some new gear (rods & reels) and all the very expensive rig bits etc etc
Wont be fishing again until the Spring however..... not a cold weather person!
All the best tight lines

In reply to Post #658 It was the lake that BB stocked with Leneys in the book Wood Pool. He lived nearby at the time. I haven't been there for many years but intend to have a look one day. (without rod of course)
In later years I believe he lived at sudborough and I have also fished in the pool there.
|
|
|
In reply to Post #657 Welcome to the forum..
Do you mean the pool near BBs home?..
I have been on BBs hallowed ground over the last few days, I did not see Angelus or Elias, but footprints in the leaves.!!
Even the above has seen lutra lutra on its steepsided banks,it is the same all over Devon and Kernow, but, sadly there is worst to come, this I know as I have seen it,it will be worse than the otter fiasco..
|
|
|
Hi all.
I first started fishing for carp in from the mid eighties as a teenager, but had been fishing for other species since I was about ten years old. Although I didn't know it at the time, my first experience of catching carp was poaching BB's Wood Pool and stalking a few four pounders on floating crust!
I was never a carp only fisherman, and fished for various species during the late eighties and on and off through the nineties, particularly enjoying chub fishing on the upper Welland. These were still the days before wraps had been invented. At one point I decided fishing was cruel unless you were going to eat them and limited myself to a few trouting sessions, and then eventually I stopped fishing altogether. I never lost my fascination with fish and the underwater world and always had that pang of interest if I saw a new stretch of water.
It is funny how things come full circle - one of the things that helped me start fishing again was learning about the otter disaster and the realisation that angling for carp is a lot less cruel than ottering for carp.
I probably only fished once or twce this millenia before I restarted fishing in 2018 after a long break, and am absolutelty loving being back behind the rods. In many ways it is like riding a bike besause it all came back to me so quickly and in no time I was back in the saddle. I have been lurking on this forum quite a bit since, have learned much from everyone here, and finally decided to join. Hopefully I can make a meaningful contribution and help others in my turn.

In reply to Post #653 Hello all, seems to be the introduce yourself thread. My names Lance and I am based in the southwest. Been an angler since I was 3, fascinated by water and what's in it.
First deliberate carp fishing trip was when I was 12 which was in 1967 unfortunately, hence the halfcentury tag. Took me 5 years to land my first carp although I did manage to hook 3. No gear no clue no info and mostly no fish in sw Lancashire club waters. Had a great time pursuing my obsession, lots of fishing on canals, meres flashes lakes and ponds, not too many fish of any species. Learned a lot.
Family moved to southwest, own transport, suzuki ts100. WOWSal****er, freshwater, rivers, lakes and ponds all full of fish. Been doing it ever since. For me fishing has always had to fit round family, wife kids grand kids and etc. Now got more time to explore my carping and the whole scene so finally decided to get on line as current mags are pretty sterile and apart from tech not a lot new there.
New age carping, lots and lots of fashion, gear, tech, attitude and lots and lots and lots of fish but not a lot of soul in some quarters.
However the world moves on and I will not stop fishing especially for carp, there's still room for an elderly sporting gent with a great deal of respect and even love for his quarry, whatever it may be.

In reply to Post #652 Morning, my names Tom and I am based in Hampshire, have been fishing since I was nine and fished a lot for so many different species of fish including carp, kinda gave up due to time restrictions of work family kids etc about 9yrs ago now. The middle and youngest children love fishing and love me taking them once more, so I am back and trying to catch up with things that have changed!
My fishing has also changed, the odd overnight session with the kids and short 4-6hr day sessions, mainly whilst doing paperwork. Never less enjoying it all once more and just not setting any targets etc just trying to net a few in the short time I have

Hello I been fishing from I was 5-6 with my father uncle cousins every weekend in Northen Ireland for Trout and Salmon and got the occasional Jack pike
Later I was forced/ taught to fly fish after a struggle with father I grew to love the art form!!
After I got married and moved to seaside just to get out and wet a line I went with a neighbour' and beach casted night fished and move to being a small boat owner and became a compatant wrack fisherman!
Then I changed my job to be a contractor working abroad and I swapped flexing a fishing rod to flexing my elbow way too much every night! But after 15 years I worked this out. as I was working in Slovakia and my back garden was on the river Danube so I bought a fishing permit and telescopic rod to get back to my 1st love catching or trying to get the unobtainable dreams
I wasn't very successful I hooked many fish but lost them all in fast current and presumed them to be BIG cats so spoke to local tackle shop they advised me to go the boilie route! And again I hooked a few and lost them in the fast current back to the tackle shop came out with catfish rod 40lb braid and a real I knew well and knew it would land the big cats dawia SL20 sh. Yes shocked you guys but it was up to the job and I got my 1st carp 18 kg wild river common
that was a year ago now back in uk to work cambridge area as contractor traveling light 4 rods marker & spod rods nets cradles bivi and Barrow and kitchen sink
I will never go to new contract again with a suitcase and duty free just again lol
Tight lines all you.

I lived in Kent for a long while starting on Brooklands then fishing the then Leisure Sport tickets, Darenth and Sutton-at-Hone, KAPS mostly too. Now moved to Wiltshire.
Fond memories of old school stuff like Send Marketing's canvas bivvy, Mitchell 300's fishing for churners and before I had buzzers me and my brother used to night fish for tench with a coin balanced on the side of a mug with the line underneath it for indication. If you got a take the coin would fall into the mug.
Then moved on to float fishing with betalights.
That used to play tricks on your eyes - stare at them for a while and you'd be convinced the float was moving all over the place. Then one night I caught a 10lb mirror on the tench gear at KAPS' Paddlesworth and that was that.
Best UK fish 32.10, France 45.5 common. Mind you, I did have a beautiful near fully scaled UK mirror about 20 years ago that I swear was pushing 40 if not bigger. Sacked it in one of those sacks with a block and draw string. Waited til sun was up looking forward to photos. Couldn't sleep, so excited. Lifted sack out of the margin and...no carp. I had forgotten to actually tighten the little block thing on the sack so it had just swum out during the night. So, that's me. A complete plonker, sometimes.
See you all around the boards, hopefully

Having used the forum a fair bit as a non member I have finally made a profile. I did the usual route of starting out course fishing as a kid before moving on to carp fishing around 6 years ago fishing on and off due togeneral life and work commitments. I fish in the South Wales area and also travel up to Gloucester when time permits.
The forum has helped me a lot whilst i have been getting back into the swing of things and I'm sure it will continue to do so whilst hopefully giving something back to the forum if and when I can.
Thanks all,
Lloyd.

In reply to Post #624 Hello everyone! I am glad to join your community of anglers. I currently live in Hampshire and have been carp fishing in the catch and release system for the past 10 years or so. However, I have been quite busy lately so I mainly have long trips (1-2 weeks once or twice a year) or short 12hrs sessions once in a while.
Hope to learn new techniques and approaches from you and contribute to the community where I can! Tight lines all!

Looking forward to the banter and the brews on the bank.

Good afternoon lads and lasses. Alfie from ouston County Durham here.
Returning to carp fishing/general speci hunting after about a 15yr lay off. Did a LOT of carp/general fishing up till about 15 year ago, my wife fell into ill health,( spot on now like), and fishing etc fell by the wayside.
I have recently returned along with my 10 year old son, who is as keen as mustard.
Lots and lots have changed since i was last on the scene, all very interesting, and a load of marketing ******** i see now also.
Anyway tight lines all

Hello!
My name is Emily, I live in a suburb of London. My dad loves fishing, it is the process that inspires him. In the morning, come to the lake or pond, and quietly in the silence of fishing - so he spent most of his weekend.
He took me with him from an early age, most likely because of this I also love fishing.
Now we also fish with him, I rarely go alone. The main meeting place for us is Walthamstow Reservoirs, the place is very good, not only for fishing but also for running and relaxing after work. I work as a web designer in a large game portal Casino Now, so fresh air and jogging will benefit, for me to lead a sedentary lifestyle is not correct.
I came to this forum to look for answers to questions that interest me and my dad, as well as to communicate with fishing enthusiasts!

In reply to Post #1000 Greetings. My job took up a great deal of time and energy so I think I spent as much time lurking on this forum as did I did on the bank, learning things I didn’t have the opportunity to try out. Recently my employer decided that they didn’t want my time and energy any more and gave me the rest of my life off. I’m very excited about the year ahead. Even paid for a Ringwood ticket and plan to get my money’s worth out of it.

Hi all, recently joined this forum after getting back into fishing last year after a 25 year hiatus! I must admit to having become obsessed with carp fishing all over again & can’t really understand why I originally stopped. I guess life got in the way!
Now living near Reading, I’m spoilt for choice when it comes to quality carp fisheries within a short distance of home.
It’s been a interesting learning curve so far & I still have much to learn, but I’ve managed to put a few on the bank this year so can’t complain!
I look forward to contributing to the discussions here & hopefully picking up some useful info too.

In reply to Post #601 Hello, I've just recently joined the Forum so thought it only polite to introduce myself.
I'm Andy and have only recently returned to Carp Fishing after a near 15 year lay off.
Originally from Essex, now living in Norfolk since 2008.
Work, Marriage and Family Life seem to take up most of my time, I try to get out on the bank at least once a week, but just day sessions at the moment.
I've been fishing a local lake and catching on a regular basis which is always a confidence boost when trying old and new rigs, techniques and baits.
I now feel ready to try a harder water hopefully to try and land one of the bigger lumps it holds.
But just enjoying getting back to it all and stealthily sneaking the new items of gear and tackle into the shed on a regular basis without the mrs noticing.....

In reply to Post #1000 Hi Folks!
Not sure I have posted on this thread, so apologies if I’m repeating myself!
I’m a noddy arm chair carp angler!
Arm chair, because due to my current Mental Health problems I can’t leave the house for more than 15 minutes. Otherwise I get the shakes, sweat profusely and get a severe stutter whic is all so embarrassing so I rarely get out. Not carp fished for ages.
I’m a noddy because my fishing luggage doesn’t match. Neither do all my rods and reels. I still use monkey climbers. I don’t have my rods close to the ground or tight together and in the same place.
My biggest fish (well the one that sticks in the memory) is 15.75 lbs, which I caught at fishers pond which I caught in 1993. However my photo album says I caught a 16.25lber the following year but I have no recollection of that fish.
I have only seen one twenty on the bank, when I used to cycle to Keston ponds and fish the top lake. A man and his family bought down an old bathtub which was filled with a pink soulution (reminded me of potassium permanganate from chemistry lessons) in which was the biggest carp I had ever seen in the flesh. He said it was 20lbs and that he would break my legs if I caught it. I think that fish went on to become “the pet”.
My main carp tactic is to pub chuck a rod out and fish another in the margins using float fishing tactics lift style with corn, meat or paste.
I only fish 2 rods but that may well change now you can get a 3 rod licence.
I fish with rods “on churn”
I don’t fish zigs.
Floating crust is my go to floater fishing bait.
I’m stuck in the 90’s carp fishing zone, and can’t get my head a round modern carp fishing.
I have used shelf life boilies in fact I have some spicy shrimp and prawn which have been soaking fir over 5 years now. However I prefer to make my own. A pound of bait is enough for me. I feel making your own bait is part of the whole carp fishing experience although I’m no way an expert. I guess that’s why I tie my own trout flies too.
I don’t own a spod rod, and my marker rod was never used and was recommissioned as great mackerel catching machine until it broke.
I don’t post on here that frequently, only when something has been rattling around in my brain which has me searching for answers.
I am fascinated by bait and flavours ever since I made my own in the early 90’s
Although I would love to hook a 20 lber, I would much rather catch lots of singles and doubles on my 1.75lb test curve John Wilson rod, or my 1.75lb korum neoteric. They are carbon rods do I guess I lose noddy points there...
I don’t own a rod above 2.75lb TC. Might have to check that.
My carp fishing chair is an old camping job from millets.
What else.....
I enjoy noddy bashing for other fish and usually only have the one rod out for carps
I’m a Delkim user. Not sure this makes me a noddy, but.....
Most of my fishing takes place in my dream world when I’m asleep.
I have never had the nack of catching a lot of carp in the past In real life, but for some strange reason I’m much better beach fishing. Can’t seem to go wrong there (apart from trying to catch a bass from west bay pier - 14 blanks and counting!)
Oh I also am fascinated by carp rigs. I have loads of different ones tied up that I will probably never used but like bait making it brings back memory’s and is part of the process.
I wish I had a good thinking mind like the likes of Frank Warwick who can come up with a different idea and not be afraid of not following the crowd.
I don’t have a carbon landing net.
I don’t have chest waders and get in the water for release shots. Strange that because as a trout fisherman, waders can be useful - also for beach fishing too. In fact the only time I’m in the water is when I fall in.
I don’t own a sandwich toaster. Pot noddles and tinned stuff do me proud.
My bivvy is a rather battered Rod Hutchinson amorphous (I think) with ally poles. I bought it in the 90,s from pence angling and it cost a months salary at the time I think.
I have never fished abroad - again, not sure that makes me a noddy.
The most bait I have ever put in whilst fishering was probably 2lbs of home made.
What else to bore you with?
No dvds or radio for me when fishing. I just like to soak in the atmosphere and let my mind wander. I have read a few books though when on the bank. Tim Paisley’s Carp season is a winner.
I’m not doing any social media atm as I find it makes my mental health worse, but I do have twitter and Facebook accounts.
I think I’m a “just being there” kind of angler (well not being there atm I know) although catching is nice, atmosphere is just as important. I guess if I felt the lead down, used deeper pro or fish spy it might up my catch rate rather than the usual pub chuck.

New to the forum so thought I'd say Hi. I've been carp fishing for 20+ years now mainly around Hampshire and southern France. Like all of us, I don't get to go fishing as much as I would like, but still appreciate the times when I do get a chance to get out!!
Looking forwards to being part of this fourm! Looks like a gold mine of all things carpy!
All the best

Hi,
I'm new to the forum, and fishing generally.
Picked it up over the last 4 years, however I have really come a long way in the last year, fishing trickier waters than I probably should but wanted to challenge myself. (resulted in many blanks )
Now have a better idea of goals and what I want to target. 12 year old son tends to tag along most of the time. (he loves it)
Anyhow, nice to meet you all
Tight lines

Hello to everyone.
Been reading and enjoying this forum for months and finally I decided to register as a full member.
I am comming from Bosnia, leave here and fish here, and English is not my native language so I do apologize for any grammar errors I make, be gentle .
I started fishing like when I was 6 years old with my father and fishing since then and that is about 29 years. Last couple years I have dedicated myself in carp fishing and found that hihgly interesting, so much that I consider myself as fanatic.
I love camping, nature, so much that I could make my life in tent and I try to pass that passion to my kids and family.
Hope I will be useful member and my experience will help others on this forum, like many of you have helped me with various questions that have get me on this forum in first place.

In reply to Post #1000 Hey all,
Getting my Carp vibe on again after 20yrs. A lot's changed since my Gardner rodpod and 45"bivvy days I see. I grew up on the Farnham AS waters, will prob join again, I've heard it's pretty busy these days. Time to pull me finger out n get some carp gear under my belt - looking at some Shimano Longcasts and some decent 2.75TC rods. There's so much equipment on the market now I'm going to have to do some research - see which bivvies/ bite alarms etc are worth getting. Any knowledge or recommendations to chase up would be great.
Thx people, looking fwd to a good season

In reply to Post #532 Hi all. New here and just checking in. Seems like a nice active forum with plenty of good advice!
Bit about me: I used to fish a bit when I was a kid and into my early teens, but just casual stuff down the local river and canal. I've been wanting to get back into it for a long time but for various reasons not got round to it. Now into my late 30's I've finally decided to buy some basic gear a few months ago joined a local club, where I've been going most weekends since. Just recently started getting into carp fishing.

In reply to Post #1000 Hello fellow Carp Fisherman, I'm really enjoying reading all the info on the forum, i've been fishing a few years but since moving to LIncolnshire the Carp fishing has taken a nose dive, still I manage to winkle out a few pasties now and again in the muddy holes around these parts. Looking forward to maybe finding a fishing buddy or two and learning a few things along the way.

Hi guys I've recently join this forum for some good learning curves and to meet some good guys into same hobbie as me! Well I'm Shaun I'm 26 years old I have fished for years but never on the carp side been properly fishing since September 2016 with carp gear, first nighter didn't catch but in morning I stalked a shol
Of fish wishing 20 mins bagged a 10lb then my uncle invited me for another night session he's exsperienced and had 7 runs lost 4 and bagged three first fish out was 26.3lb then my second was 20.08lb and then 12.02lb within 24hr session was well impressed and chuffed this gave me great insentive towards this side of the sport/hobbie. Went to east delph on 28 December caught a 23.02lb in cold weather lol woke up and was about 1inch of ice on lake lol then about two weeks ago went to another lake and bagged 14lb carp.
I'm slowly building my gear up as we all know it's not a cheap hobbie/sport, but in a overall I think I've achaived a lot within good 5 months.
Any one recommend any good lakes in Cambridgeshire area??

In reply to Post #522 Ta Slash....i live a stones throw away from Blackhills mate, fished Oxwich 100's of times, mostly by the church or in a kayak over the wreck.....if you ever down this way again give me a shout☺
Plenty of mullet in the marina as well

In reply to Post #518 Hello mate, welcome to the forum, I've spent many a good holiday on the gower black hills caravan park by the air field, i used to go fishing at oxwich bay, went on holiday there every year for 12 years i used to call it paradise and have a lot of very fond memories, I keep saying I'm going to go back as I have a touring van, I remember when the marina in Swansea was just like a scrap yard in the 80's, and by the 90's it was beautiful
MUST GO BACK.

In reply to Post #520 That's a good size bass mate!! My P.B is 6lb 2 and I was chuffed to bits with that! My dads caught big fish from all over the world but his 10lb 4 bass off the beach in Folkestone is his all time fish of a life time. Can't beat live prawns or peel crab as bait 👌🏻
|
|
|
In reply to Post #519 No mate, not in the Bass Society.....my biggest bass is only 7.5 but was with my mate when he caught his 13lb'der at Mumbles, awesome fish to catch

In reply to Post #518 Are you in the bass society mate? Used to love fishing at the gower for bass really good fun 😃

Hi Guys....
I'm 54 and from Swansea and have been sea fishing for round 40yrs,mainly for Bass, but my back don't allow me to clamber over the rocks like i used to so i thought i would have a go at this carping malarky innit☺.....i've only been 3 times(2 lakes)and have caught 2 carp,1 @ 10lb 8 and the other @ 12lb 4,they give heck of a scrap dont they lol......i'm well and truely hooked(scuse the pun lol)
I'm not working atm so have had to buy cheaply but have put a few things together to get me by until i can upgrade.i also make my own boilies and pop ups to save a bit of cash. Not looking to fish specimen lakes, just the small commercials that are around my area..
Nice site by the way....
Cheers Guys

In reply to Post #510 Hi all,
Been visiting this website since I got back into fishing 4 months ago after a 10 year absence.
Finally decided to learn to drive and passed my test in May after riding bikes for 20 plus years, got a car ( it might only be a fiat panda but will fit all my gear and my 5 year old son at a push, not the wife sadly ) when an idea came into my head " I could start fishing again". Spent at least 4 weeks looking at reviews and opinions on tackle etc before drawing up a list of what I needed, checking online and local tackle shops for the best prices and booking a couple of days of work to allow for shopping trips and courier deliveries. What I estimated the cost to be and the actual cost varied quite a lot ( but don't tell the wife ) but you can't skimp on comfort. When it came to terminal tackle I was a bit lost, chods, zigs, spods, pop ups etc were all new phrases to me so when I went to my local shop I spoke to an assistant who took me around and explained what all the bits and pieces were for, I felt like a kid again but in a good way. It was exciting being back in a tackle shop and decided to leave the chods and zigs until my confidence and skill increased and have been using a simple running rig and pre tied hook lengths with success. I haven't set myself any goals or targets as "I've gotta get a 20 or 30 pounder " as I'm quite happy enjoying the peace and quiet and getting a couple of low doubles per session

In reply to Post #502 only been going after carp for 2 months now but mainly after small medium sized fish upto mid 20's
I know it's a different world now, but fishing for two months and after small to medium mid 20's..........
Don't get misled by the comics/Facebook/whatever, 20's are still big fish. Catch a 40 now, and where do you go from that? It took me at least 6 months to catch a 30

In reply to Post #1000 Hi all, joined a couple of months ago but have only now got round to posting for the first time. Been fishing only 4 years and now hooked on carp fishing although a complete novice. Came to fishing late in life (I'm 50) in spite of living on a narrow boat for the last 10 years! Have found it to be the finest thing for the soul.☺ Anyway, that's me. Hope I can input from time to time as well as ask for advice.

I am new to the forum.
Been reading along for a couple of years and now I registered myself.
Bojan is my name and I am from the Netherlands.
Specialized in canal fishing and gravel pits.
Also have a tackle addiction
Which is mainly the reason that I signed up here, cause this forum contains a lot more info then the Dutch ones.
Best Regards,

In reply to Post #1000 Hi all, I am not new to the forum, but have been away for while due to illness and a few of life's other difficulties. All my gear was stolen while in hospital and I have never had the chance to get back into fishing, until my youngest Son said he wanted to give it a go, as he missed out on it due to my forced 'retirement'.
So, i have decided to get some gear together in any way i can to take my lad fishing for a couple of days. i have manged to scrape some cheap gear together, with the help of a few lads off here too , and will hopefully be on the waterside by next week.
I am really getting quite excited at the prospect of taking my boy fishing and him catching something, that would be amazing
Plus i am already getting the full itch myself, already looking towards the possibility of a syndicate if i can find one that will have me., and i can pick up my fishing roughly where i left off a few years ago.
And of course looking forward to meeting others from this forum and once again enjoying the pastime with others
cheers Russell.

Hi my name is Ben and I am more of a match angler and a winter carper.
Why the winter I hear you say, well I have fewer matches then and it is more time on the bank if I pop out for an overnighter :-)
Anyway I have been fishing for 30+ years so and have match fished in teams for the last few years, currently I am with Fosters Team Army.
I look forwards to possibly seeing a few of you on the bank.

Hi folks
I have had a long break from fishing due to ill health, work and family. But now I am back. I live in Evesham and there used to be some very good lakes with reasonable carp in. Now they all seem to have vanished or they are syndicates. Does anyone have any help with contacts or places to go. We used to have Vale and Rookery but not sure now. Any help would be very greatly received as I can't wait to get out there again.

Always fancied a crack at carp so finally taking the plunge.
Hopefully talking about my catches soon - looking forward to speaking with you soon

Hello! My name Is Alex and i`m a stranger passing through this country. I fish from 10 years old, most of time coarse (feeder and match). I fished in a lot of country in Europe, put here is a littlebit hard for me to find the public fishing spots ( i mine the place were you can fish only with the fishing license bayed from post office, without to go in private fisheries to pay day tickets). Maybe some of you can help me, or tell me where to look. I`m interested for West Sussex. Thank you very much.

In reply to Post #1000 I kind of second hello from me. Been registered on here for years, not posted much, but soon after I stopped fishing.
Been fishing since I was a teenager, so a long while ago. Before stopping fishing about 6 years ago, I dabbled with carp fishing, but wasn't fishing the right lake and just lost interest in catching 7 to 12 lbs pasties, with no real chance of going for anything bigger. Also the lake owner started introducing (in my opinion) stupid rules, combination of reasons why I jacked it in.
Kept all my gear though and have been on 4 days in recent months to a new (to me) lake. No success yet, but I know the lake I have been fishing is hard at the moment - no one else was catching either, so I know it isn't me!
But I am still enjoying it and can't wait to get back out there.

In reply to Post #1000 Hey everyone,
Im new to the forum, did a bit of fishing when I was younger, was really terrible fisherman tbh, never could get a carp on the line on my own. Just want to get back into fishing again particularly carp fishing. I know i missed the best time (summer) for it. I've got an old rod and reel still and some 15 lb line and some hooks and weights. Just want to know what else I could need. The most success I had was with float fishing but I only ever caught small fish with it and no success at all with carp. Can anyone suggest a decent rig for carp fishing that hooks the fish without needing to strike?
Also do you really need those bleep machines you put your line through?
Sorry If im asking these questions in the wrong place but any help would be much appriciated. I live in retford nottinghamshire anyone know a good carp fishing place? i've been to hallcroft one a couple of times no luck with carp there though.

Hi there,
Finally decided to join the forum after beeing a guest for many years. I live in Sweden and I've been carping for about seven years now. As far as I'm concerned this is the best place for discussing everything carpy and where to look when you have questions about tackle etc.

In reply to Post #1000 Evening! Just found the forum via the wonders of Google... Recently went fishing for the first time in over 12 years (or when I could still be considered "young")
After a couple of evening sessions at my local commercial I bagged my first double (a lovely common at just over 10lb) so want to build on that now!
Need to build up my kit now and go from there I guess!

A bit of a crash course courtesy of my brother-in-law who actually taught me pretty much everything I know 4 years back starting off with the Tincas in the Cotswold water park.
Got into Carp (and Cats) fishing in a big way when working in Barcelona for 9 months in 2012. Most weekends down on the Ebro.
Now home again in Wiltshire, and looking to broaden the horizons and enjoy the finer moments. More Passion for Angling than Thinking Tactics if you know what I mean. Still lack subtlety, accuracy and the finer courtesy awareness but i'm working on it.
Fish with my 28 year old Land Rover and where permitted, my Hungarian Viszla who watches my kit for me.

In reply to Post #1000 New to the Forum. Been carp fishing 35 years, started off with cardinal 55's bamfords and if you wanted to use boilies, you made your own (I still do). Used to do well with Geoff Kemp bait ingredients...and all rolled by hand. How things have changed! Kids of today don't know how easy they have it... last ten years have not carp fished at all, been focused on predator fishing, but in the last year or so I got my mojo back for carp and am now doing nothing else - loving it! Been fun re learning everything and ticking off milestones... So far I have asked a few questions and got some good advice on this forum. The odd stupid comment here and there gets made, but overall, people have been very helpful

In reply to Post #1000 A brief intro from me, My name is Chris Wilson I'm 54 (look 44 and feel 74) some of you will know me as 'Wizzy' but that's when I was younger and very much faster
I've worked as a design engineer all my life which basically means 'I design and make things' or in my case - improvisation! I've also been an angler for over 45 years and own Laguna and Pristex, also run our new Bait Bunker shop in Bradford part time.
Unfortunately due to work commitments I don't get out fishing as much as I would like but still have fun whenever I get the chance.
Feel free anytime to ask questions regards our crazy industry, product development and bait, long-term and HNV being our speciality. I cannot promise to know everything and some of you guys will certainly know more than most but I'm here to help if I can.
Thanks for having me!
Chris

In reply to Post #409 Just saying "Hi" to all.
Been angling since 8 years old, now a mid-40.
Dedicated carp angler since 2003.
Originate from Kent (Faversham) now live in Wiltshire and have been slaving it on the Cotswold water park since 2004.
Now belong to a syndicate near Reading and have enjoyed some nice Cypry action, but will always keep the water park ticket going as the rewards are outstanding, but rare! 😁

Hi all, as with others I'm not new too fishing, been going since a young lad, now in my forties. I've wanted too experience carping and hopefully catch a big carp along the way. Been collecting all the kit I need and tactics and advice from other anglers. This year was going too be when I made the change until just before Xmas last year I slipped two discs and trapped 3 nerves. Now waiting for a operation, which has now put back my fishing. So I'm looking forward now too next year so I can recover and get too that bank finally. In the mean time I can join in all your glory with the catches you all post. Tight lines all.

In reply to Post #399 Hi Everone,
My name is Ron and I have fished since 1954. I have carp fished since around 1959 after reading "Still Water Angling". Up until 1967, my biggest ever English carp weighed 9 lbs 15 1/2oz.
From 1968 until 1975 I fished for carp intensively and was a member of the BCSG and resident in South Africa. There I stayed until 1994. I caught thousands of carp up to a few that went over 50 lbs.
I returned to the UK in 1994 and spent most of my life as an all round anglers catching trout on the fly, to roach on the stick float. I caught lots of double figure barbel from the Trent.
Earlier this year I decided to return to serious carp fishing, just to see if I could still do it.
I surprised myself and caught several 20s in addition to my UK PB of 271/2 lbs which holds a lake record for a 5 acre North Lincs lake.
I look forward to some interesting debates
Ron

In reply to Post #1000 Hi Guys, sort of new to the forum, was a member years ago and just re-registered as couldn't remember user name etc! Have been away from fishing for the last 5 years or so due to work/family and getting a bit disillusioned with the whole thing.
However taken my son a few times pleasure fishing recently and got the bug back!!

Good evening,
My name is Peter, I live near Rotterdam and I have been chasing carp for about 25 years now.In Holland carp fishing is becoming more and more popular and therefore it is very busy on most of the smaller lakes and canals. For that reason,I decided to try and catch carp on the bigger rivers in Holland like Hollands Diep,Haringvliet and the Biesbosch-region. It is the same river where Dave Thorpe caught the Dutch record carp many many years ago. A very large riversystem that makes you feel real tiny.....This is my second year on these rivers, and I must say that it has put a sort of a spell on me I am not catching a lot of fish, but each and every fish I manage to catch overthere is very special to me.
Hopefully I will get to know some nice fishing-colleagues on this forum to share my passion with.

In reply to Post #389 Its not about monsters boss its about enjoying yourself a few would do well to follow your example. Congratz on your catches

Hi all,
I've taken up fishing again properly this year after a 10 year lay off.
And I must say, I'm enjoying it a whole lot more than I ever have. I'm out there any time that I can .
Previously I was just an ordinary river fisherman, catching anything that would take my bait, and therefore not catching a great deal.
But this year I have achieved some pleasing pb's, biggest carp (16lb), 2 doubles in a day (in fact it was 3, 11lb, 13lb and 16lb) I realise that these aren't big fish compared to what the majority of you folk are catching, but I'm happy, I'm catching and for me that's all that matters.
Anyway, enough of my drivel.

In reply to Post #377 Just go for Shimano. I have been using a pair of the old 4500 aero GT for about 30 years and they have never let me down. If you go used I would suggest you look at the old GTE 8000. Depends what size waters you are fishing.

Hello Everyone. New Member. Fishing on and Off for 35 years. Enjoy all sorts of fishing. Will even target Bream if they are a good stamp.
Pet Loves - Small intimate venues that offer some rod bending action even if the fish are not huge.
Pet Hates - Carpers who think they are fishing in France and empty 10 kilos of bait into an intimate venue and are surprised when the fish stop feeding.
We fish to catch not to feed them.

Hello all, forgot I had this account. So never got round to posting an introduction.
Anyway I'm jack. Been fishing for 40 years, mainly sea fishing with a bit of coarse. Last year I started carp fishing, didn't get chance to fish much last season as I had a serious neck injury. Anyway started my season a month ago and started with a lovely 10lbs common from Kingston fishery in Warwickshire. Also fished bishops bowls lots of times, mainly course fishing, but once or twice for the carp, blanked big time, but been new at the time don't think helped. Hopefully this season I can get my first carp on the bottom form there.
Both of these lakes are only 10 mins from my house so I'm a bit spoilt think I prefer Kingston as its less commercial for me, plus it has a nice head of Carp for a small fishery, will be fishing it again this week, hoping to bank a couple of the carp in there.
Anyway that's enough waffle from me, might see a few of you around as I see Bishops bowls is popular on here.

Hi
Registered for a while, so thought I would send my first post and say hi. Live in Suffolk and have been fishing for well over 25 years, just decided I wanted to concentrate more on dedicating time to Carp fishing having spent the last few seasons improving my general float, feeder fishing and fish handling with carp up mainly 10-15lbs with an odd one up to twenty. Already got some good tips on watercraft and tackle to help me get started and have a kettle now if anyone wanted to say hi on the bank.

Hi all,
I'm Ian, been fishing (general coarse and sea) on and off since I was a kid, although more off than on for the last decade or so. Got back into angling regularly within the last year and recently decided to get into carp fishing, after years spent travelling round, and since I'm now somewhat settled in an area with a few decent carp fisheries (Oxfordshire).
Already learnt quite a lot from browsing the site and being introduced to the search function certainly helped!
Hope to learn a lot more and get a PB worth actually noting down and remembering
Cheers

In reply to Post #317 Welcome!
I am willing to bet that your English is a hell of a lot better than much of the so-called 'English' used by some of the members on here
Additionally, I am certain that your English is better than the German of 99% of the English members on here (with one or two notable exceptions who are English but work and live in your country).
Enjoy the forum. It can be a funny place at times and an aggravating place at others but for the most part you will get lots of good info off the members on here.

In reply to Post #1000 Hi everybody
I been a member of this site for a while but ain't really been that involved within it as forums weren't really my thing when I joined.
Well I'm now back and have been quit active on other forums since I joined.
Anyway a bit about me:
I'm from Essex (near Southend on sea)
Been fishing for most of my life and been carp fishing for most of that.
I do love to catch Carp, Catfish and have started to get in to a bit of Pike fishing this winter.
I'm clocking on a bit, 35 now and going grey but not bald.
Stalking carp has really started to appeal to me.
I been to France once and bagged some nice carp while out there. The biggest one was 49 3/4lb
My biggest English carp is just 26 1/2lb from Doggits in Essex.

Hi All.......just made a return to fishing after not wetting a line for 20 some years, and completely new to carp fishing. Have seen a few nice ones in the local waters, looking forward to stalking them. Sadly there are still a lot of folks around here (U.S. midwest near chicago) that see carp as a "trash" fish...the town I live in used to hold a Carp fest, the goal being to catch as many as possible and rid the lake of them.....luckily they were unsuccessful.
Well, back to reading and learning for me...take care ...Estaban

In reply to Post #1000 hi all.
I primarily fish for pike on the glacials in the lake district but have some local ponds where i am a member that has a decent carp population. as i have gear that can be used for either fish i'm looking at trying my hand at it. I'll prob just buy ready made rigs to begin with. Is there any particular brand eg fox, korda etc you's lot recommend?

In reply to Post #253 Hi Matthew.
Welcome and are sure you will learn allot on this forum.
Not really the best thread I think to post questions in but seeing as your question stir's up some dear memories I will try to answer you as quickly as I can.
In short Canal's tend to be very shallow, next time you are out take your landing net and poke it into the water in the margin till you find the bottom, this will answer your question I think.
It would generally be the deepest in the middle of the Canal but this won't be much deeper than the margin a couple of feet at best.
Each stretch of the Canal you fish will be different though and will differ in the makup of the bottom but my advise to you would be to pull up your lines when a boat is approaching and to recast it after the boat has passed.
I know this is very frustrating and one of the main reasons apart from the crayfish that I don't fish Canal's much threw the summer no more.
In the colder months the traffic on the Canal's will die down and I find the winter months VERY productive for catching carp from the Canal and best of all the banks will be empty.
You will also find that the carp on the Canal tend to follow the narrow boats down the Canal as the boat turns up the bottom and they love this.
I have had numerous captures just after a boat has passed and then just casting behind the boat.
Give this a try.
Then but definitely not lastly as far as Carp Safety is concerned, much better to rather pull up lines when a boat is approaching than to risk having a cut off and maybe even leaving a baited rig behind in the water for a carp to be picked up.
Remember Carp Safety always first and foremost.
Canal fishing is exciting and one of the best places I think personally to learn to catch Carp.
I hope this helps, tight lines and remember to look after our Canal's.
2 Canal Carp to wet your Appetite.
A Canal 20.

Not alway's about the size but some 'Minters' to be had.

EDIT: My appologies to the mods but the question flooded me with memories.

In reply to Post #252 Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum and have a question but don't know where's best to post it, its my first post so this thread seemed appropriate.
I have been fishing on and off for 8 years but over the past 2 years I have been gradually been trying to focus on catching carp.
From reading online I quite like the idea of catching a canal carp, and apparently its good to do this at night. Last night I used my new bivy for the first time and slept on the bank with my fiancée and blanked, best I had was a very small knock. This is fine, my problem is that this morning I hooked into a barge! Fortunately the bloke stopped and wasn't too upset with me. Despite the line being around his rudder he reversed and I rescued everything without any line snapping. The rudder picked the line up from the middle so when my other rod got knotted I could untie both rigs.
My question is why did the boat pick up my line? I had two ledgers out, both with backleads on. The spot I was fishing was a barge turning spot, both rods were cast into this area close to the weeds. My rigs have a 1oz inline lead on the back lead is 1.5oz, are my leads too small?
Any help or advise would be much appreciated.
Sorry for a long first post.

Morning all,
I've been lurking around these parts for a while now and found peoples impartial views invaluable when lookin for new kit, so i though i'd best say hello!
Fished every week as a kid but as i got into my teens other things took priority. Anyway i've been fishing a week in france every year now for the past 6 years, just a boys holiday really, nothing too serious, but i'm now getting the bug again. Joined a local club with a couple of friends and looking forward to getting back out on the bank

Hi All,
I'm Tom and (was told not to say real age) but around the 15 mark . I live in the east side of England. I carp fished alot when I was slightly younger around 7-13 then gave it up for a while. My brother is slowly introducing it back to me, its not my main hobby but one of my side hobbies that I do every fortnight or so. My biggest catch was a 8lb tench and my biggest carp was a 6lb, I guess they are quite small compare what you must all catch.
I fish off pole at the moment and mainly use lunchonmeat, maggot and sweetcorn but I am looking to move over to rod and do a little night fishing. My brother uses a 16lb carp rod would I be worth investing in the same? Although the lake we are planning on fishing has carp between 10-35lb. Would i need better? Also please could anyone advise me on what else i need for night fishing, alarms, pop up, bollies etc.
Cheers
Tom

Hi all
My names Jerry,
Ive fished since I was 5 or 6 years old and I'm now late 40s. Ive gone from pleasure fishing to specimen fishing to match fishing and have run a small succesfull club. Nowdays I can found match fishing and specimen hunting. Ive had English 30s and now a French Forty thanks to our sponsors Carpe D'or.
Over the last few years Ive been updating tackle and not having pots of money to spend Ive had plenty of good and bad experiances with purchases that Ive made. These are the chief reason for joining the forum to share my views on whats worth missing and whats worth buying. I will offend the haters of TFG gear because Ive had some really good stuff from them, like wise I also have some really good Nash stuff too- I make my purchases by judgement on functionallity/ price...but never by label.
If it works it makes sense.

Hi everyone, my names Dave from Kent, and I've been into carp fishing for about two years now, I've been mainly river fishing since I was a kid and never had too much trouble pulling the smaller species in, but trying to grab a decent carp has been a real struggle
I got hooked into carp fishing by a couple of hardcore Carp anglers at work, and every time we go fishing I seem to either blank or land (according to them) a "pasty" while they pull in some fair sized good'ns on a regular basis, they've briefed me on tips and ideas and told me what tackle I need etc but it makes no difference
I'm not too fussed what I catch as I just like being out relaxing around a lake or a nice river, but it's the friendly stick they keep giving me, saying things like "ALL THE GEAR AND NO IDEA" and ALL THE KIT BUT CANT CATCH SH*T lol
So now my aim is to catch something decent and wipe the smug grins off their faces and shut them up for good, lol so ill be looking and learning from all you forum guys
ATB-Dave

In reply to Post #1000 Hi
My names Dan, I live in Surrey with my wife and 2Yo daughter, aside form the daughter (and probaly my wife i guess) i love fishing above all else, nothing better than sitting by the side of a lake staring and twitching bobbins..
My carping history is fairly breif so far, having only started 2 years ago. I was v lucky to pick up my pb of 38lbs 6oz common from a local water near here (Hunters Lodge). Recently started fishing a new lake (whitevane pond) and am looking forward to the challange.
Was recommended this site by a friend of mine and am looking forwards to getting to know some people and learning all i can from the massive wealth of knowledge i have seen on here.
If anyone want to talk carping just pm i guess =]
P.s, if anyone can tell me how to add a post to a threat without having to "reply" to a specific post please pm me. i am v new to using forums and stuff.

In reply to Post #212 Hello chaps, this is my first attempt at carp forums , i was looking at a few forums and there appears to be quite a lot of unfounded comments about me, my baits/flavours etc. and where i have vanished to, i just havent been involved with writing, or any of that stuff for about 10 years now as carp fishing appears to be more about celebrity than carp fishing these days eh ? but i thought i would do my best to try and catch up with the 21st century. we are still in the 21st century are we not?

Alright guys,
Have been reading this forum for hints/tips for ages now, thought it was about time I joined and made a contribution myself, ask questions, etc... This forum is without doubt the best resource for carp info on the net, all credit to its users. I've learnt so much from just reading posts on this site and really think that my fishing/watercraft has improved from it.

In reply to Post #1000 Hi all,
I've been course fishing for a few years and decided to go full time on the carp about three years ago while I was fishing the Staffs & Worc canal near Cannock bit bashing and trying out a new pole when the float went under ever so slowly then the elastic just kept stretching and a little while later I had a 15lb 6oz common in the landing net . Last summer I got pb of 20lb 12oz and hoping to top that this year

hi all
I joined the forum a week ago ad its about time i introduced myself
im a hertford based angler who's been fishing on and off all my life
i'm retired now and a 'carp angler' who fishes 'off the top'
i find this the most exciting and satisfying way to catch them,
and more often than not the most productive.
I have my local favorite lakes, but i wouldlike to try any lake in
Herts or Essex on a day ticket that has carp over 30lbs in it.
my PB is28lbs
any sugestions?
Tight Lines everybody

Hi there , Im a Derby based angler and have been fishing on and off for the past 25 years. My UK personal best is 20lb and my french PB IS 28lb (no laughing) i love carping and continue to learn new methods , rigs etc. Im currently a member at Sutton lane in Hilton and im currently looking for another water for some quality fishing with my son. Im not really into the crowded day ticket places , i much prefer the syndicate type waters. Im willing to pay around the £400 mark for the right water . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
Im new to this forum but have been carp fishing for many years although still only in the UK.
What i have learnt so far is that its bloody expensive , your misses will hate it , you plan a sesh to find its - to hot , to cold , high pressure or bloody frozen over but never the less its better than ..... err ....
Im from Kent but get about like the clapp.
I take part in golden boll*#ks main event at Hawkhurst every year (thanks Barry).
Love all fishing from sea to fly with only a hate for bloody bream!

New to the Forum.....
Im David, 31 from Northants, married, kids blah blah!!
I stopped carp fishing when I was about 15 (mostly unsuccesful) and took up drinking and going out instead!!!
I got back into carp fishing about 3 years ago, but with limited time and knowledge have struggled to get in on the bigger fish.
I currently have a PB at 10lb Mirror which was 2 years ago.
With work and family I omly managed to get out 7 times in the whole year in 2011, and with a new baby on the way this year will probably struggle for time again in 2012.
I am focussing on fishing at Stanwick Lake Fisheries "Mallard" lake, and so far this year have had one out at about 8lb. (in one over nighter and 2 short day sessions).
I don't seem to struggle on Swan lake there where i've had 9 in an afternoons floater fishing!
I know have a lot more knowlege, but just need the time to put it into practise!!
Thats my story in a nutshell!!!
Cheers

In reply to Post #194 Hi , Ive been attempting to carp fish now for about 12 years. Recently joined a local syndicate in Peterborough which allegedly has 300 carp in it, me and me coleague have been fishing it heavily for over 80 hours so far and yet to have a carp over 7 lb yet ! weve had lots of roach to just about a pound , small bream, and a 7 1/2 stergeon which was a good fight, but as yet none of the promised 20 - 25 lb carp. Well thats the intro done, at least the weather is being good to us at present, happy fishing all

Hi all
New to this forum but not new to the world of carping.
Started out in 1977, I seem to remember my first rods were Sportex blanks then moved on to North Westerns, reels were Mitchell 300's then ABU 55's, used Heron bite alarms for a couple of years until I could afford a pair of Optonics. Made my own bait all HNV until I moved over to Premier fishmeals.
Lived opposite Orchid & Lagoon in Oxfordshire so fished Orchid heavily back when it was owned by ARC, became a bailiff on there when Bury Hill Fisheries bought it & Paul Bray ran it (to this day there's a swim named after me, now there's a claim to fame..........not)!
Gave it all up when I had children then when they were older got back into it taking my oldest son when he was 12 (he's now 33). Stopped again in 1993 when I started my own company but in recent years have the time now to do a bit again.
Belong to a small syndicate in Oxfordshire & go to France once a year meeting up with my younger brother who lives in Sweden.
Well that's it in a nutshell, looking forward to gleaning some up to date information from you lot.
Cheers
Chris

In reply to Post #1000 Hi all,
My name is Ben from Manchester and I do computer software.
I am a completely new carp angler and know absolutely nothing about everything!
I am very lucky in that I have access to my own private water and due to the nature of my job can work and fish at the same time ( if I have to! )
This will be my first summer carp fishing so want to get as much time at the lake as I can.
I would like to meet experienced anglers to fish with and learn from.
If there are any experienced anglers who are willing to trade their knowledge for free fishing please PM me.

In reply to Post #1000 New guy here - only been carping the once and didn't catch anything, although had a great day sitting in the bivvy out of the wind/rain asking plenty of stupid questions and drinking plenty of tea!
I'll apologise now for asking stupid questions, although I sometimes say the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask!

In reply to Post #168 Hello everyone.
My name is Peter and I live in Essex and an 65 years young.Have recently retired from work and after 40 years hard graft I am looking forward to the best years of my life (hopefully).
I first started carp fishing in the early 70s but due to work and raising a family never could devote the time to Angling as much as I would have liked.
I often reflect on my childhood angling experiences with my grandfather who introduced me to the sport and Happy summer holidays fishing for large Rudd and Crucians in local small ponds and then Pike fishing on the river Chelmer and Chub fishing in the winter on the river roding.
When my sons were old enough I had the pleasure of taking them fishing and soon joined local clubs and introduced them to the pleasures of Carp fishing.
Although I had a high pressure job and time was limited, fishing with my sons has been one the greatest pleasures in my life.I am proud to say that they have grown up into fine adults and are both much better anglers than me.
Now, I am looking forward to a great year of carp fishing, lots of time on the bank, hopefully sessions of 2/3 days.
What bliss!!!
I belong to a great small club which has 2 beautiful lakes and most of the members are 10/20 years older than me,all these wonderful old guys say that fishing has kept them going,so I hope that forcast bodes well for me.
Over the next few months I am replacing all of my gear which is around 17 years old but like my Harrison rods have aged gracefully.
Already thanks to this forum I will be ordering new rods from the guys at Cotswolds, whom every one seems to praise.
I will now sign off as I am starting to ramble.
Wishing everyone well
Peter

In reply to Post #165 Thought I should introduce myself here.....
Been browsing these forums for around 5-6 years but thought it was about time to contribute to the forum.
Loads of helpful posts that have no doubt helped hundreds of others like myself.
Been fishing since I can remember, around 22 years. Started off with a stunning telescopic rod fishing for small stuff in a local lake when I was a kid and progressed through the years. Only started carp fishing seriously about 2 years ago and it really has me 'hooked'.

In reply to Post #151 Hello everyone
My name is Zoran, I'm from Serbia. I've been fishing for about 15 years ago, initially I fish caught with lures for pike, perch and catfish, carp fishing now. Carp is much more demanding users for fishing and a real pleasure to catch carp, take pictures of it and go back into the water.
I hope that I divided my experience with you about carp fishing

In reply to Post #1000 Hi all, I am new to the forum. My friends and I used to go fishing quite a lot but then we all started driving/got jobs ect and we all ended up not having enough time (mainly due to girls and the pub) anyway a few of my friends have started up again (around 6 months ago) this time round they have both started carp fishing and they both love it I went with them the other day and I have to admit I miss it all, not only the thrill of catching a good fish but the fact of being out and about and in the heart of nature without the worries and stress from the world! I also live a stones throw from 3 good carp/fishing spots and it seems a shame not to make something of it.
Anyway enough of that, I cant wait to get out there again and get catching!
Joe

Hi,
Ive just joined this forum and thought Id introduce myself a bit!!!!!!!!
My name is Stewart, Im 29 and I work as a coach driver.
My PB is a 14 pounder from Broadlands Lake near Southampton a few years ago but unfortunately my fishing has been mainly off than on but a Christmas present has reminded me I ought to go a lot more often than now - it was a Matt Hayes DVD/John Wilson carp fishing book gift pack!!!!!!
When I was at school I used to go fishing at the weekends at the lakes in the grounds of where my dad worked at, but unfortunately its now a hotel/wedding venue, had some great memories there though including catching a 7 pound common carp, having my rod dragged into the lake and my dad not being impressed at having to get a boat to rescue it and putting my rod down on a footbridge going for a drink and catching something through the slats of the bridge lol

Hi all, I'm new to carp fishing and this forum. I fished all my life really but only got into carp fishing back in June this year. Since then I've spent a fortune and confused the hell out of myself but I've enjoyed every minute of it! I've finally got to a point where I feel I know how to catch a few and have had some good results. This forum has helped quite a lot so cheers! Any tips on catching bigger fish would be great. Thanks Simon

Hi all, New to forum, new to fishing. I'm Jon, I live in Medway, Kent. At 35 (in a couple of days). I feel the time is right, to learn how to fish. I will be reading the many threads, to learn as much as I can, as quickly as I can. But what I really want to do, is just actually get out on a lake and go fishing.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
No gear, no Idea..

hi all
Just noticed this thread, and my first post here. I've been registered for a while now, and search/read quite regularly so really just wanted to say thank you to everyone that posts information and advice here (which I guess will be me now too ).
I've only been carp fishing since sping this year, often with my 10 yo daughter who has a real passion for it at the moment. It was her insistance on going fishing late last year that led us to carp fishing in the first place. I hadn't fished since just about a teen, and not a great deal then. PB is a 22 common caught at Bluebell, and daughter's is a 15 common from the same (different session).
Again, thanks for the info I've already garnered (and will continue to), and look forward to being able to contribute myself too

Hi im relatively new to this carping game, just got my self started this year , to be honest Ive done quite well best capture so far is a 15lb mirror and 14.8 common and Ive only blanked on 1 session this year and that was at Thorpe lea(wow shocking i know) but next time i visit the venue i will know exactly where to fish.Ive done lots of weekend sessions and a few in the week sessions but its not enough i need more lol does any one have any tips about winter carp fishing other than wrap up warm, i live in the walthamstow area does any one on here know how the stow fishes in the colder months as i hear it is a hard code to crack there because of all the pressure through the summer months. My preferred bait is cell but that's no surprise considering its results, also i use cc moore n-gage xp always topping it off with imitation corn.

Hi.
New to the forum, my name is Mark.

Whenever i click on a topic, i never see the first post. It could start on the 2nd or 3rd post etc within the thread.
Is there a setting i need to change..?

In reply to Post #1000 Hello all - i'm completely new to carp angling previously I've done quite a lot of fly fishing and some sea fishing. After a days session on the Ebro after catfish earlier in the year I decided it was time to try something different. So i finally bought some kit and I'm heading off tomorrow to Woodlands in Thirsk. I've read a little (magazines and forums) but probably not as much as i should have done. To be honest I haven't seen much that's basic enough to help me so it's going to be trial and error.
I'll be using a Mission X, 12ft, 2.5lb rod with a Shimono 6000 RA holding FOX 10lb Soft Steel Camo line. The tackle shop recomended Dynamite Baits 15mm freshly rolled bollies and Nash bait Top Rod Hi-Glo Rainbow pop ups as hook bait.
Does anyone have any last minute advise about the venue, general tactics (remember the more basic the better) or general thoughts.
Otherwise I'll let you know how I get on and hopefully be able to ask some more sensible questions as time goes on,
thanks
Jack

In reply to Post #70 Hi im jeff an new to carp fishing complelty, ive only ever done sea fishing, fresh water fishing, an fly fishing, i have done a little coy carp fishing when i was younger with my uncle, an we just used maggots an sweeetcorn an bread, but i havent ever used boiles or anything like that, an i have just brought myself a carp fishing set up, 3 rods, 3 reels, rod pod it came with a net 42 " an handle un hooking mat an box of accsories an 3 alarms, an i brought a bivvy seperatly to.
But the box of accessories is confusing me, as i googled tulip beads, an there is different makes an some look different to the ones i have an other things look different to the ones i have, but anyway, i have managed to make a helicpoter rig, but want to know if my lenghts of line are to long or not long enough, the line from the swivel to the weight is 50 cm, an the line is connected to a swivel an pear shaped bomb with swivel built into it, so i tied the line to that an then put a piece of rubber tubin over the swivel to protect it an then put a rubber stop bead about 10 cm away from the swivel at the top wich ties to the main line. Is this right.
Then before i tied the main swivel to that line, i got a tulip bead, an another type of bead which is pointy an then has bead end the other end, an a swivel wih has one eye bigge then the other, an basicaly put the swivel over the thin ponty end, an that pointy end went into the tulip end nicely an then i put the line threw it so it can move freely up an down the line an go round to. Is that right.
Then thefree eye of the swivel i tied bout 60 cm of line, wich i now know to be called the chod an i put a piece of rubber tubin over the swivel an then some anti tanlge tubin into that as it fits nicely, just so it stops any tangles, an then i put a hook at the end with a loop for the boile an the boile stop.
So the rig does work, as in it goes up an down freely an spins round freely, but i want to know if my line lenghts are to much or not long enough , an if it sounds right.
Like i say im new to carp fishing, so please forgive my ignorance. If it was a sea rig, i could make it in my sleep. I think i did ok, as i justed looked at the accessories an managed to make some rigs up.
I also got some tubin that has a weight swivel attachemnet just less then half way up, so with this one, do i thread the main line threw it, then tie it off to a swivel an then tie a hook length to it an if so how long the hook length.
Also with my rigs, i have been using 19 lb line, as i have got some surfix sea line, as its one of the best lines, an is 0.35mm so it isnt thick, but it is strong line, is that ok.
Like i say im new to carping, an im confused an lost with so much of it, like when i went into the fishing shop today , i was looking for hooks with the boile attachamnet on it, an there was loads of diff types, some wich had a loop on at the end, some that had a piece of stright metal, some that had a spring like iece of metal, so i got the loop ones as i have stops, an then i also made a few up myself, i made some knotless ones up as i can use the boile stops on them to, but when in the shop, there was so many types of hooks with attachments on, i didnt know which ones to get or what type, an what hook size, the guy in the shop, was a sea fisherman, an didnt really know himself.
An what make of boilies are goo to, i have brought a couple of bags of berkley buzzbaits, one cherry red berry flav, an one royal honey flav, they smell really good, an i also have a bag of halibut boilies by richworth or richmond.
Anyway i hope i havent waffled on to much lol, but some help an advise for a complette an utter newbie to carp fishing would be really helpful, thanks very much.

Hi all,
Newbie to carp fishing, and fairly new to site, been guest a while and made a few posts but seen this and thought it polite to say hi! Living in bedfordshire and joined 2 clubs this year so had a few days on the banks, my PB only 4lb 2oz Common, had 7lb 2oz Tench, but rest all about same size, have moved onto some bigger waters but keep blanking, dont mind cos its great to get away from it all, and have a few friends that help me and abuse my lack of skills, anyways thats about it hope learn loads, and maybe see some of you guys on the banks...

Hi All
Have been lurking for a while now but decided to sign-up after my daughter, Brinaeastlake, has become a member.
I've got back into carping after a break of over 20 years (long story about ex-wife selling my gear when we split up and not getting round to get more stuff )
Anyway, looking forward to picking up plenty of tips and advice as carping has moved on so much since the last time I fished.

In reply to Post #3 Hey, I'm new on here. And Im also new to carp angling.
Starting back up after 15 years out. Purchased some new gear recently and went fishing at Raker Lakes in York overnight with a good friend who fishes the water quite a bit. We both blanked Im afraid to say, although next time I might try a runs-water so I can get that feeling on the end of the rod again.

In reply to Post #79 Hello everyone , finally signed up after having used this site for so long basically before i purchased almost every piece of carp equipment you could think off, id come here and read all of your thoughts and pretty much everytime i found the reviews and opinions of the quality, price ranges etc of any one particular bit of carp gear to be spot on and so have come to trust reviews and opinions on here so much so that they make or break my decision, to buy or not to buy... Anyway just a quick hello and thanks to all of you who i may have read an opinion or review from before buying something for helping me be pretty much 100% happy with all my gear. I put 90% of the reason im happy down to honest and good to the point reviews on products quality and value. Now off to read more so Bubyee

Hi, I'm new to the forum too and have been carp fishing for about about a year. My pb is a 21 & 1/2 Ib zip linear, stunning fish and I was well chuffed . Now have me own rod and and turned on the charm and was bought a new fox stratos FS 10000E reel and prestige bedchair. (Well if you know how to work it, it's rude not to) Me and the other half are off to Dreamlakes next week and cant wait. I'm going as a non angler this year, but he said i can take a run if he has a double take or goes to the loo..... or if I tie his legs to his bedchair
All the best

Name is Simon
Live in Sweden and fish for most species, including carp.
I work at a local tackle store which makes my life pretty much fishing 24/7 whether I like it or not. I do prefer days by the bank over days over the counter however. This time of the year the latter unfortunately takes a lot of my time which gives me less time spent on banks, but thats life!
I have recent years not fished for normal carps at all, however Ive been fishing in a lake stocked with grass carp instead.
This year I got my drivings license which gave my fishing totally new opportunities which I am now using. My goal for this summer is to catch one of the Kois in a water a couple of miles from here. The water is stocked with commons, mirrors, one grassie or 2 I believe and some kois.
Tight lines!

Hey everyone,
just found this thread a little late but should be still ok if i wrote here.. My name is Dorian and I`m from Brunswick/ Germany. I`m just about 16 years old but i have already been fishing since the age of 4. In 2007 I first saw some fisherman fishing for carp at a little pond and became very impressed by that way of fishing. From that perticular moment, I became more and more interested in carp angling so i bought my first carp rods just 2 month later. Most of my fishing time I spent and will spend with my friends at our lakes, knowing there will always be someone to be with , to joke with or just spend a very nice and important time with as a community. Since my beginning, i`ve been using to be member in some german forums but from time to time I wanted to get new experiences and get to know a different way of fishing, so i just searched for an english forum, hoping not to be confrontated with too many problems languagewise
Best regards from Germany,
Dorian

Hi everyone, I am new to the site, but have been fishing for 1 year now. I am looking to up my game a bit now, and want to go for some bigger carp, my PB after my first season is 16.8lb common caught on single 15mm Mainline Cell from Higham Farm near Derby. I am pretty sorted with all my tackle, I started off with a £50 argos job and after a few good catches and learning some of the good brand names I soon went shopping for better stuff. I am now fishing with confidance a 3 rod Fox setup.
I would like to find some advise about any good lakes in the Derbyshire\ Midlands area, somewhere I can mabe get away from the single figure fish, I would like to be targeting doubles really.
Is there anything I can do to target the bigger fish on my local lakes or is a change of water needed to find bigger fish?
Any help and advise would be great
Cheers people

Hi All .
Just getting back into carp fishing after I gave it up when some tea leaf broke in to my uninsured garage and took everything including my terminal tackle.
(no I am lying they left me a landing net handle but took my broken one) .
Most of my stuff was second hand or last years model but i had built it up over the years and could not afford to replace it. so my fishing days were over . so i thought anyway !
The Best Tip you will ever get on this site is KEEP YOUR STUFF LOCKED UP or GET IT INSURED .
Anyway after picking up some cheap and nasty rods and reels from the back of a carp mag
I decided to get back into it this year and after 3 day sessions I have had 3 twentys (26 biggest) and 8 doubles most being high doubles . Not monsters but when your the only one catching on a pressured lake you suddenlly remember just why we all love carp fishing.
Its not your rod reel or bivvy that catch fish! its your brain and whats under the water that counts so dont be put off like I was by the tackle tarts and get out there .#

There aren't any good carp forums for the USA. So I thought searching for a UK site would be best. And so I have found it!
I have been fishing all my life, mostly Bass and Trout on light tackle. Recently while talking with my dad on while fishing for trout, we got to talking about him fishing when he was much younger. He went on and on about catching carp from the Charles River, (in massachusetts for those who would like to look,I also grew up on this river but fishing for bass) and how good of a fight they put up! We ended our trip at our normal time (2pm) and I went home thinking about carp, Now, the river just down the street from my home has loads of carp in it as I had been told (merrimack river lawrence, mass) So I drove down with my bass rod (7 foot mitchell with 10lb/line) and setup a egg weight rig with a big bread ball on the end. in about 25mins I had a run! And running it was! Peeling line from my reel like no bass or trout had! I had the fish almost to the bank when it made a sudden 180* turn and snapped me clean off! I packed it in for the eve and went home for dinner. Tried the same thing the following night around 7pm and had the same thing happen!
I am now very interested in this fish! Which has lead me here to all of you. So, please, Go easy!

In reply to Post #1000 Just like to say hi to all on the site, the name's Phil and I have only just started carp fishing. Used to do a lot of sea fishing (30+ years) but due to health probs can't do much anymore. Have fished a few fisheries with my biggest being a 9lb 9oz common on a size 14 hook and 4lb hook length. Biggest on the carp rod so far is around 6lb but hope to get bigger as time goes on.

Hi guys
My names Dean and im 25 been fishing since I was about 6 and the obsession has only got stronger!, have already had some great help from this forum so I thought I would introduce myself.
I started fishing the Bristol Docks and also a pond called Abotts Leigh, I always loved using quiver tips and swim feeders growing up but that has changed now. I caught a 7lb Tench from Abotts when I was 7 and it almost pulled my than scrawny frame into the water! I will never forget holding what seemed like the biggest fish in the world and that feelings carried me forward into fishing.
I have now been having a go at carp fishing and so far I love it, as im a care worker my pays not great and I have a 1 year old daughter so I simply do not have the funds to tart up my gear which to be honest doesn't bother me at all. I use very simple home made rigs and have had great success, with the addition of using back leads my last session was fantastic. I caught a 20lb ghost carp at 2.30am and a 12lb mirror about 10 minutes after the rod was put back in. I love fishing and know the Bristol docks very well, I even know some secret spots that give out fish you simply would not believe resided in the docks. well in short that is me
cheers Deano

In reply to Post #3 Hello Folks,
Just thought id take a minute to introduce myself, ive been fishing for about 10years now, mainly carp, but have spent the odd weekend down the local canal "tiddly bopping", more drinking went on than maggot drowning!!
Ive not been carp fishing ion this country for about 4 years, I fished my Father in law's lake in France (more like a pond!!) that was stocked with 3 25lb commons, and lots of other varietys of carp/tench etc.
Looking forward to this weekend as were planning on going to fish for some kittie kats at Barby Mill in Rugby, Warwickshire, will post on the forum with the results.

Anyway, i've been keeping the carping just about ticking over (only getting out half a dozen times or so a year). This year i've decided i'm really missing it. Luckily i kept my syndicate membership going so after revamping/re-sorting my gear i'm ready to go again!!
So what'd i miss??!!!

In reply to Post #3 Good morning all!
Well looks like afternoon to most
Going on my first carp hiatus in about ten years, leaving the Chicago area for South Carolina 4/14 this is where I have my most found memories of carp outings. In my younger days carp tournaments in pay lakes was a great time had, the really big fish came from the Hartwell Lake reservoir and the smaller Broadway Lake. Both lakes We have the common, grass and a mirror population the mirror being much smaller and not even sure how they got in the lakes? Colors range from a muddy rusty gold, the sleek silver look and some blacks. My biggest in 30 years has been a 49 pounder from the Broadway lake in 1984
Reading this forum my entire carping differs from the rigs, baits, strategy etc. than I am used to, you may even call it simple?
Rigs: Zebco 33 on a 6'6 ugly stick rod, wound with 12 pound test Stren yellow gold florescent line, a dual swivel with eagle claw 2/0 snelled hooks (2)
Ground Spike rod holders
Baits: Whole kernel canned corn, dough balls made with simple loafs of bread and maybe some commercial pack baits?
Now back in pay lake competitions we went through all sorts of concoctions rice mixtures, cereals, and a variety of condiments.
I will do some series pics and videos of the trip mid April is a great carp time in South Carolina.

Ola,
Very fine Forum you have here, sadly still not offering Beer on tap though I see . Have been a reader on and off for quite a while but since selling my business I now have a lot more time on my hands so thought it was about time I pulled up the proverbial chair and joined in.
First I would just like to mention some people have told me I am a bit strange. The reason I believe is because I do all my fishing with a Centre Pin Reel. It started around 10 years ago when my father hooked into a rather large Barbel and got me to take over as he was bursting for a piss! I have not looked back since.
Around 4 years ago I picked up two Ray Walton Rolling Pins these allow me to cast around 70 meters and I have been a happy larry since.
Look forward to shooting the poo with you all .
Liger (Theo)
PS no I do not wear a floppy hat :P

Hi all,
First time on a fishing forum, mainly because I've only just taken up fishing again for the first time since my teenage years (many moons ago!)
Currently doing a spot of coarse fishing in the lakes in and around Liverpool. Glad to be onboard, and hope to re-learn all those forgotten tips and tricks off you esteemed members...
Cheers,
Chris.

In reply to Post #1000 Not really new but haven't been around for a while, good to see some of the old faces still around
I haven't been carping for ages but will get back into it for definite, I get married in 3 weeks though and my mrs is expecting in September so it's a busy year for me - hopefully it will be a boy so I can take him fishing!

Hi All!!
Recently became a member after a number of years visiting as a guest as and when I could. Now having the luxury of more reliable internet I signed up.
Fished boy and man from early days around Watford, cutting my teeth on the grand union canal at Croxley & Rickmansworth. Rivers, lakes, ponds, given the chance I'd be fishing them. Holidays to North Cornwall, namely Bude, where I would spend all day on the canal there. Trapping my 1st carp by design late into the evening on double corn, Gold hook & a nite lite plugged in the top of my float. From that day forward every water I view with it's carp potential. Although not exclusively a carp only guy, most of the time I'm planning the next trip out with commons and mirrors in mind.
Now residing in West Devon, Totally mad really, my 1st house was a stones throw from Harefield. I was spoilt in that part of the country. I certainly didn't move West for the fishing.
PB came from Farlows on the biggest halibut pellet you could buy at the time. Just went against the norm, as everyone advised I would get "breamed out" using pellet. The carp were often 2nd to the bait so by keeping things different, I dropped my rig on the head of a showing fish & bingo.
Anyway I won't go on as most likely you are bored already? Suffice to say I enjoy all aspects of the Forum and still
picking up the odd tip. Hope, I inturn, can make some valuable contributions in the future.

Hello and Good Evening,
My name is Sean and I live in Beaconsfield. I don't do as much fishing as I would like to, but have done more in the past.
I am here on the recommendation of cowley as per the forum v forum thread and am predictably a member of the same forum as him
What to say? Am an old git and started fishing in 1954. Used to live in South Africa, but been here since 1988. I enjoy all types of fishing, trout, sea, river, pike, coarse, and of course carp
I will need time to read and ingest the current topics before I bore you any more
Sean.
