Hi

Im fishing a venue in a few weeks where I need to use solid bags. I want to knock up a batch of bags prior to going.

Whats everyone's preferred way of doing this?

Solid bag stems from the likes of avid etc or a short length of leadcore or maybe some other way?

I always tie solid bags as I go, no loop knots so a stronger set up.
And when I say stronger, I mean for casting a big bag and a 3.75 oz lead.
I need to weigh a made up bag!
I do sometimes pre-make some mesh bags if I'm fishing that type of water.

I've always used a short length of lead core, around 4 to 5 inches long , make up half a dozen so you slways have some ready, then loop to loop them to your mainline or leader , used drop off style , they work really well, plus with the lead removed from the lead core and a drop of putty on the loop to loop knot they lay flat , I always think those stems could be sat at a funny angle if not just sat right . Strong set up too, with 15lb mainline I've had a good few 40s on this set up , never had an issue !

Gemini stems are excellent just loop to loop with the lead core

I’ve been using Avid steams for at least 5 years now (change them at the start of each year just in case the inner has weakened).

Stems are probably the easiest way. Avoid the avid ones though, I've had 2 of them snap at the swivel, the second cost me a known 40 at the net

I've used Gemini since and they're pretty good

If you want to use leadcore, I only use enough the actually tie the bag

I use 14” of leadless leader or 2ft of Fluorocarbon. I don’t tie them till I get to the lake but then tie several so I always have 3 ready to go

I've started using 12" of lead free along with Korda inline safety sleeves and find it is working well

I used to pre-tie mesh bags of pellets until I once chucked one in the margin that I’d made a few weeks earlier. It took hours to melt, I assume the mesh had soaked up the oil in the pellets. Suffice to say I now tie as I go.

Yes that’s definitely an issue, hence I don’t pre tie them

I use both stems and leadcore(with the lead removed) and out of the two i prefer the leadcore option for a few reasons.
Firstly, it's so much cheaper, you get a lot of them from a 10m spool.
Secondly I think imo that is safer when it comes to the being ejected in the event of a break or crack off of using loop to loop.
And thirdly I like the suppleness of the leadcore because with a stem it's very stiff and should the bag land on uneven bottom it could potentially be sticking up, no such problem with the leadcore. 👍

I always use a short length of leadcore. I don’t like how the stems stick up and I’ve had one tangle in the net while I’ve had a fish waiting to be unhooked and weighed etc..

I think im either going to go for a short length of leadcore with the lead taken out or some sort of lead free leader.

Not looking to make a load weeks in advance more like a few the night before I go to give me a headstart when I get there. 👍

Gardner Camflex in 45lb is perfect for this.

Short length of leadless leader for me, like the idea of the stems but can just imagine it sticking up off the bottom and being a bit blatant....perhaps just over thinking it though.
