After a long time out of the kitchen, I've decided to mess about with a few 1 egg recipes some old and some new.

For one of them, I'd like to significantly darken it up from cream to deep red or preferably brown. What I'm after though is a colourant that doesn't change my mix at all and won't wash out, so not Interest in blood based or robin red.

Anything I can take a look at to do this? As I'm only messing with 1 egg mixes, I'd like to achieve the darkening and pay the price rather than cut a corner and nearly get what I want.

If anything comes to mind, and idea of levels to start with would be great too.

Thanks.

seeing as a lot of the dyes and pigments are no longer available due to small quantities of various reds and yellows it may be a case of buying some icing colourings.

something like this? These are 'lake' colours that shouldn't bleed but tbh they are expensive and 3g doesn't go very far.
Mixed reviews on them ( in baking circles) the orange and yellow were quite good tho.

Deep red, maybe beetroot powder, used a lot as a colourant 👍

3.5% Kingfisher Red (hookbait version)
2% Spirulina
Will make a fishmeal very very dark and hold that colour pretty well too.
Wierd combo but it does the job.

Blood powder helps to get a dark red colored bait. Inclusion levels up to 7% are manageable depending on other ingredients in the mix.

You could always darken the cream coloured baits post-rolling with a darker liquid?

Maybe something from Sensas? They have groundbait coloring powders.

As mentioned, Spirulina is good. If you want black, bait dye 🐟
