Just wanted to say I've cleared this post with Karl (forum owner) first as I'm a site advertiser.
As a side passion project I've created an app for carp fishing, it's been designed to specifically work on the bank using your mobile but it works on all modernish devices.
The reason for creating this post is because I'm looking for anglers who want to shape the future of it. So if you have any feedback, any features you would like to see, improvements etc, then I would love to know about it!
I've been fishing for over 30 years, and I really do regret the fact that in some cases I don't have pictures for, or have forgotten most of the details of my captures over the years.
As well as that I am a geek. We mostly know what works / doesn't work these days, but I'd like to use the data gathered to prove that statistically but also highlight things we've missed. Using AI to help with analysis is also an option.
Core features include:
- Catalog (very) detailed info about your catches and filter them. You choose exactly how much (if any) you want to share with the platform.
- Has over 1200 fisheries worldwide, I'm currently working on fishery search based on distance / location and adding more meta about fisheries such as fish species / weights etc.
- Facebook integration: share your catches directly to a Facebook page. This could be extended to other platforms like carpforum in the future.
- Free cloud backup: Uses your own Google Drive so your data stays yours unless shared.
- Spot picker: take images of your spots, record wraps / depth / substrate etc. Link to your catches.
- Works offline if you're in a remote place!
I'm making improvements and adding new features regularly. I have a lot of ideas, but if you want to influence this then let me know. I want this to be our app rather than my app.
I'm planning on keeping this free to use and it just requires a google account to get started. The benefit for me is just seeing the app take off and giving something back to the angling community.
The app is web based and is accessed via www.findex.fish. Also has a youtube channel with lots of tutorials.

cant stand all these fishing apps , i feel the fishing world would be allot better off without them! , i feel its making people lazy and more reliant on electronic devices, you cant even go to a lake now for a look around and use abit of water craft to decide where to fish on the lake , now you have to go on an app to book a swim without even seeing the lake or knowing where the fish are pay over the top prices because the app takes commission pegs get booked up on the app because its easier to press a button rather than get up early and make the effort to get a good swim , and now there are apps asking us to record everything we do while angling, we will need digital IDs soon to go fishing and all for the greed of money , sorry for the rant nothing personal

So,for over 40 yrs I have enjoyed fishing various lakes,including Upper and lower Tamar ,I've not fished them or visited since the DREADFUL APPALLING CATCH APP ,became live ..I refuse to be pay for a booking fee...also...SWLT ,has also installed APNR ,cameras ,on various places ,a soon to installed APNR ,piece of dog poo ,coming soon to lower Tamar to make people pay to park ,just to bird watch or take a stroll for their health..
Apps will be ,are ,,will.end the freedom of our sport..
Avoid using them at all costs ,you have been warned !

This doesn't sound like a lake booking app to me?
More like an electronic diary.
I used to use the old Fox Swimmapper before, found it useful, especially marking spots etc.

Whereas I mostly agree with what's been said, there's no denying that technology is slowly being integrated into fishing, & it's the future, whether us old farts like it or not.
The progression of angling lies in the hands of the new blood, & they're most definitely holding smart devices..

Then how long before this information is available to subscribers.

Interesting... i used to fox swim mapper app and then the notes section on my phone for my usual water and had a vast amount of information on both. I stopped using the app a while ago when it started to share info without asking permission. And then 2 weeks ago i accidently wiped my notes from my phone... about 10 years worth of spots and info.
So i have now resorted to a note book and pencil kept in a plastic waterproof bag in my tackle bag.
And this is the problem i see with these Apps - the fact you can have you information shared and the fact they can go from fully supported to nothing in a instant make them to unreliable.

Technology will be the ruination of our much loved pastime, including our perceived freedoms .
Sadly I'm deeply concerned by the overt use of tech not only in angling ,but in our daily lives also
Digital technology will not free us ,eventually it will enslave us all..if that's the future I'm out ,as much as I can ..
Young people are so easily led and controlled ,so to me they aren't the future at all,...Find me a young person that can critically think ?
Sold a dream ,,bought a lie ...!
Not going to fall out with anyone either.....

As far as I can see in the world of angling it's carp fishing that there's over reliance in technology.
I suppose someone will say different but in match and general coarse fishing I don't see it much.

While fishing apps like this aren't for me I think they will appeal to the younger angling generation, at least that's my perception of that demographic anyway given all the betting apps etc that target them in sport, then there's social media etc.
I do use apps like Deeper (no choice if I want to use the product) and one thing I don't like is my info being stored on their systems and potentially being available to all. If I put in the hard work to map swims, create way points etc I don't want that info to be available to all ( or more likely those who pay for that 'advanced' option) the moment I enter it. Yes you can probably opt out of sharing, but it's likely the developers could still see it, and angling being very much money orientated (app fees inc) it wouldn't be hard to use that info for someones benefit in creating followable/influencing personas. I mean that the information could be sold by the app developer to a interested company, a sponsored angler then goes on a good run, leads the socials, and wannabees want to use whatever products they're using. Your info regards what equipment you use could also be sold to target you with ads.
Technology drives everything including profit, and it doesn't have to mean chip sets on the bank. Match fishing is far worse than Carp fishing and more regularly innovative, if you believe it. Not many carp fishing items comparable in cost to £5000 poles, maybe a top end bait boat from Carp Lounge, and as with both it's about how you use them, they don't guarantee succes, but I do agree it's more prevalent and will become the 'norm' in time.
If it makes you happy, increases your enjoyment without affecting others, brilliant.

I think it depends. I don't like the idea of using sonar, well, not on sonar attached to a bait boat on a 3 acres puddle anyway. However, I do like the fact I can just pay a tenner a year and see what some poor sod spent hours mapping out a year previous. The results CAN be pretty accurate, but obviously not 100%. On one lake near to me, the maps were accurate to around half a wrap, but what impressed me was it's ability to map out the depth of the silt present. I found some cracking gravel spots thanks to that site.
£10, and it saved a hell of a lot of homework. All I did was chucked a lead in the areas noted to confirm the presence of deep silt and gravel. Two hours work max.
Drones though...
I'm quite anti tech in general though. Instagram is destroying childhoods. Facebook is full of fake people projecting their fake lives, and I'm glad I came from a generation that met women in nightclubs, and not on dating apps. Imagine doing a ton on a bird who looks nothing like her picture, and you won't even get to give her a cheeky digit
