Its been a number of decades since ive fished for other species however i wouldnt mind a go for tench (likely up to 6lb), chub to around 4lb on the Ribble, bigger perch etc.
I quite like the look of the Acolyte range but jesus theres a million to choose from, any ideas?
Looking for a float road a bit beefier than a match rod.

The Acolyte plus would probably fit the bill, a few of the tench anglers use these on my syndicate water. One or two are now using the newer and slightly more powerful Acolyte specimen.

If I were buying for your purpose I'd be looking at the new Normark Titan rods. Had my eye on them since launch last year, the old version of that rod has held it value very well. I can't justify it though as I had a heavy float rod (Torrix 1.25lb) made up, Johnson Ross sell it as a specialist. I have a couple of Acolyte rods too, very nice, Drennan do some nice rods too.

Acolyte specimen would be perfect. I have a 14ft version.
The Normark is almost certainly great too; but it is a chunk more money.
Cheaper alternative would be an old Drennan Power carp waggler - If you can find one. Cheap and really good.

I am a Harrison guy....is the Torrix 1.25lb not a little heavy for my purposes?

I asked Mark Tunley (rod builder) for a powerful float rod capable of chucking method floats and dealing specifically with larger Bream/Tench/Chub, and one that'd still be a pleasure to play fish on and he suggested the 1.25lb Harrison.
It's a lovely rod with a lovely action, not at all too powerful for those sorts of fish. I had mine made up naked if you will, reel seat, duplon end caps and short duplon butt, because I want to be able to clean it easily when using method and don't want stained cork.
The New Normark rods look amazing, have a look at the Youtube vids about them. I think Matt Hayes was using a prototype in the latest rod race if my eyes weren't deceiving me.

I have 3 Harrison float rods a 12 ft canal rod a 13ft spliced tip for silvers on the river and an 13ft su which I got to stop getting bullied by 4-8lb carp on commercials and it's great wouldn't throw a method feeder with it but used it for small lives for perch with a small lead

Take a good look at the freespirit carp wagglers, thats the route i eventually took.
Either the CTX or the HI s (depending on budget)
They do a "S" (stepped up) version of each as well if you want a bit more power in the middle.
The Acolyte is also good
Bargin basement wise its worth a waggle of the 1.1lb Korum classic Avon. Albeit only 11ft. Although as a float only rod its far inferior to the Freespirit / Acolyte. But it will be good for ledger / feeder on alarms etc

If you can find one a Shakespeare mach 3 12 foot pellet waggler is a great rod for a ggod price, use it for everything from silvers to mullet.
2 piece so easy to leave set up, tip is sensitive enough for silvers to put a bend in it but enough backbone for mullet.
Prefer it to my Drennan im9 classic.
