Does anyone use a garden strimmer without those very annoying tangley lines on the spools?

We used to have one when we had a big allotment. We changed the head to a brushcutter tri blade as our neighbour said its the better option than the bi and quad. It was a great little thing at 1st clearing of thick bramble and then just maintainance of grass.
It was a 2 stroke, can't remember the make but it wasn't expensive.

You can just wrap a cable tie around on some instead of the plastic wire

Portek cross head with diamonds edge line. It's a fixed head with 2 or 4 cutting cords. The diamond edge line is very robust and lasts a long time. Cut into lengths say 500mm to suit your strimmer guard, then it passes through the head and is clamped into place. I very rarely use my blade now unless I'm cutting 20mm blackthorn.
Depending on what engine size you have, you can cut the line shorter if you are lacking in power or use a thinner line. 4 mm diamond edge for strimmers around 2 kw or thinner for smaller engines. It's the best line I've come across. There are other versions of the cross head fixed line theme but portek has lasted me well and will take different line sizes.

Its really just for edging grass.
Heard about people using cable ties and even pike trace wire!

Search 'Polycut ' heads ,I used one for years ,remember to soak the replacement blades in water for a day before use
.Mine was on a Stihl fs 55,other brands do there own version .
I also use a tri mulcher blade ,this will take out brambles ,it also works best without the shaft protection.. just make sure goggles ,gloves and ear protection is used..
Walk backwards when cutting in certain situations it's easier on the back,plus if brambles are in evidence strim ,use, in up and down motion ,not Sweeping from side to side..
