Hi all. I am going to fish a lake with a minimum breaking strain of 20lb rule in place. I rarely use more than 15lb and never used anything beyond 18lb. I normally use ESP Synchro but struggling to get in the required bs so on recommendation of tackle shop got Korda Subline, and it's awful. Just spooling up with it and for the 1st time in my life it's coming off in huge loops and tangling so I've already wasted 300+ yards of it and about to give up (I am using my normal tactic of a bucket of water after soaking which is in line with the recommended way in the tin). I have zero confidence in using this line so looking for recommendations please. Doesn't have to cast well as will be either short casts or potentially using a bait boat (if I get around to buying one), so strong, good abrasion resistance and sinks well are the main properties I am looking for

Another vote for Gardner Hydrotuff will do all you require breaks well above the stated breaking strain on the spool

Is it specifically breaking strain or line dimension?
Because GR60 12lb breaks at over 18lb according to the tackle box line tests so a 20lb version would probably break at over 30lb

Im with onslow. Just use 15lb gr60, that breaks at 21lb so your not breaking any rules and no one would ever know anyway unless they come to your swim with a digital micrometer and measure your line which is never ever going to happen.

The rule specifies breaking strain not diameter. To be honest I am considering just using Synchro in 18lb as breaks way higher than stated and is quite a thick diameter in comparison to some brands but just looking for recommendations to absolutely keep within the rules

I now have synchro xt 18lb on my big set up, it's well behaved and gives me the confidence to launch solid bags with no fear of a crack off.
It looks quite dark on the reels but it's a translucent grey colour that blends in very well.

What a stupid rule - it should be diameter.
Does the Bailiff ask you to show him you line spool and receipt of purchase?
You could buy a 15lb line that is stronger\thicker than a 20lb line.
Most 20lb line is stated at 0.40.
Just buy some 18lb Syncro (stated 0.40 actually 0.39) and be done with it.
You could show him your Subline spool if it's green.
Might be worth you having a look at the TB line tests which show measured diameters.

Ive got 15lb GT80+ on since posting about mainline a while ago and its been very good.
As already been mentioned, get a mono that's 0.38mm+, it will break beyond 20lb anyway.
GT80+ would be my vote, friendly and does it all.

I agree and I almost certainly will go with 18lb Synchro which seems the sensible option. Glad I'm not own my own in that way of thinking but thought I would get some views and suggestions as I do like to stick to the rules, where possible
