A dramatic fall in water temperature will mean it's time to go steady with the bait until fish acclimatise to the cooler conditions. Lakes have suddenly gone very slow.

I don't slow up my baiting approach until the temperatures really drop during the day time, I'm talking regular single figures. I live down south so at the moment it's constantly between10 and 14 degrees currently.

Baiting, I stick to boilies generally, however, I have done really well on casters throughout the month of November in recent seasons, and I'm still not sure why this is, but they've been a revelation.

My rigs stay the same, the water I'm fishing has a 2 rod only rule so I have one on a ronnie and one on a supple blow back rig. I found no preference either way, and have had fish on both rigs. I never scale down, even as we head into winter. This used to be a big thing when I was young, but honestly, I've found very little difference over the years, doing this.

As always, the most important thing is to find the fish, even more so when the temps do drop as they are far less active.
