Hi, Can I use spirulina as a dusting or coating on already prepared boilies? Like you would GLM powder etc or does it need to be added to the boilie and cooked/prepared?

I have dusted baits with it in the past. Just be warned it's very fine so you really just end up with a sludge on your baits unless you get them sticky/tacky and almost dry with a liquid.
Also be prepared to get green everywhere unless you're careful or wear gloves!
Was it effective for me? Not so sure. Had a fish out of a very low stock and tricky park Lake the autumn I was using it but nothing else. It does darken your baits off lovely though which helped me avoid the birdlife in the clear water.

it will all be washed off by the time your bait hits the bottom of the lake anyway

Not on it´s own, but thoroughly mixed with a "heavy liquid" that hugs the bait & the bottom
Great attractor for the small creepy-crawlies, which inturn attract the carp
So on it´s own, not suitable for "dusting".

Not 100% certain, but I think Ken Townley uses it to dust his cultured hookbaits. Check the Haith's website.

Most of this dusting/adding liquid is purely companies pushing you to buy add on's not really needed -why do most of their testers push it in articles? Cynical or what lol

I hear you but certain things for me I think make a difference for catch rate and that's additional liver,GLM and betaine HCL. May just be the confidence in it but I feel it does help but then sometimes a 18mm out the bag does just as well....

So true
Siphoning your hard earned till every last penny is gone
Ask yourself ... if you buy a readymade product, that has been tried and tested, and optimized/tweaked to full capacity, to work effectively, from the moment that bait is submerged in water, then why add something extra to improve attraction, to an already attractive bait ? That applies to mass feed-baiting scenarios. It´s like buying a product that´s 95% effective and the same company selling you the missing 5% for an extra few quid, to add yourself.
Boosting hookbait attraction under certain favourable conditions/circumstances might give you an edge though. Well, all boils down to confidence, in the end, so each to their own.

If all of the good things are rolled into your boilie and the makeup allows that to be released then a lot of the hard work has been done for you.
Saying that, there are liquids that are very attractive to carp and one of the best methods i personally use is to get those liquids into something that will be released on the lakebed.
Coating a good boilie isn't necessary, using liquids is however a very good edge 😉

Imagine not seasoning your food... it's the same thing. Make a good thing better.

Most of it is washed off before it gets where it needs to be. A good soak to get it in is no bad thing though.
If anyone has properly tested though let me know.......

Depends how you do it. Sticky liquid like a hydro, dust, dry, sticky liquid again, dust and dry off slightly. That powder will be getting to the bottom as it's stuck on. Spirulina maybe less so as it's so soluble.
I used this exact method for hookbaits with nut meal, it stayed on for 4hrs.
