Hey all, as per title, what would you recommend?
Mostly going to be fishing under 80 yards so I don't need bucket spools.
I do however, need a front drag. I despise rear drags with a passion.
Due to the onset of severe Reynauds Disease, I'll only be fishing on an infrequent basis from say, April/May to Oct/Nov, so not looking to spend a fortune. Also don't want bargain bucket tat either.
I've been looking at the Diawa Emcast 25a, would they be a nice match for 10' rods? Never seen one in the flesh.
How about the Fox offerings? What are they like these days?
Any thoughts welcome, budget is max £120 per reel, but secondhand is fine with me for a set that works with the rods.

Yes those emcast 25a's are a lovely reel and a bargain compared to the higher end stuff.

I use the shimano 5500xtd with my 10' scopes.

I use Okuma inc 8000's with my Dwarf 9ft 3.5lb
Used to use Okuma inc 6000's, but find i can reach a little further with the larger spools.
Cracking reels, if the label was removed you would think they are a higher end reel.
And good cost too

I have a Daiwa GS4000LTD on my Scope floater rod and think it's a lovely reel.

I'd go with a GS4000.
I own the 25A (great Reel) but I'd want something lighter\smaller on a 10 foot.

Don't own the Emcast 25As but do own the Emblem BR25As which are a slightly longer/larger reel and they balance fine with 10' rods so you should be fine. . .if you're not stalking and the rods are pod bound for the majority of the time I don't think you need to consider small reels - the 25mm spools are a good compromise!

The GS4000 looks decent, can anyone elaborate on the clutch - does it require loads of turns to get from a baitrunner esque setting to a playing fish setting?
I tend to run my spools quite tight as I'm always on the rods, but I hate having to add turn after turn to get up to a fighting setting.

I used to strip Shimano baitrunners down and service as a hobby. I took one look inside that Okuma and binned it on the spot. I forget what model, it was somewhere between 2005 and 2011 or so.
I have no doubt todays Okumas are fine, but, once bitten and all that..

I've had both and neither take loads of turns, from memory one full turn from loose enough not to pull rod in to fighting setting. The 25a feel a more robust reel and has a more robust finish but the GS looks better to most with its black and gold and wood handle.not had the baitrunner version but some say it's the best baitrunner daiwa have made.

I got a pair of Diawa whisker ss1500 tournament whiskers for £180 off eBay,but my dwarf rods are 6' but still a good fit

I've not used the emcast, but the GS4000 doesn't have a quick drag. Probably 3 full turns to go from no resistance to high resistance.
As my other reels have quick drag doing the same in a half turn, it does feel like quite a bit of turning, but it's probably not really.
