Any recommendations for small water reels / surface reels for a reasonable price with a nice clutch? Seems to be a lot of firms doing their own reels!
Max cast would be about 40/50 yards on the waters I'd be fishing with these.

I don't own a set but always see the okuma 6000 highly recommended

I think a set of GS4000 would go nice with 10ft rods for this kinda water

Wychwood extricator are really good for the money -lovely wide arbor spool so line behaves better. Look nice too!

Nice little daiwa 4000 ninja. Cant really get any better for under £60

I suppose it depends what you mean by "reasonably priced" Daniel. I have a set of Okuma Inc 6000's which are decent but you can't get spare parts for these so if anything goes wrong, you have to hope it's an easy fix. Some reel service people won't touch these for that reason. These retail about £50 or £60 apiece. They used to have a 5 year warranty, but I don't think they do now. Spare spools are hard to come by also.
I also got a set of Prologic C series 6000 for my youngest. Got them for half price - £15 each from AD, with a graphite spare spool. These are freespool reels, and very good vfm, even at full price.
Then at the other end of the spectrum I guess for >= £100 a reel you can go for a Shimano or Daiwa. Like I say, it depends what your budget is really and how often you're going to be using them.

I have been using Shimano Baitrunner OC 8000's , for exactly that kind of fishing.
They have been faultless over quite a few years of hard use.
If you want a slightly bigger spool, then the 12000 size, which we can't get here in the U.S. , might be even better.
The 8000 spool is roughly the same size as the old 4500 Baitrunner B reels and more than adequate for close to medium range, in my opinion.
Very solid reels.

Fully agree I have a set with western drag caps and ice washers, upgraded handles and high impact line clips, there currently my favourite reels.

I own a fair few reels, but a couple of years ago, I got a set of 6000 Okumas after seeing them highly recommended on here. They've gone on my river carp set up, and for the money, I can't fault them one bit!
