When I used to fish for catfish a few years ago, I was faced with the same problem, you often wind in after a night of fishing pellets with no hookbait as they breakdown over time. What I used to do was get 2 x 25mm undrilled halibuts, then cut say a 3" square out of a pair of tights with say 3mm mesh. A bit of dental floss to tie the tights, and then use the loose end of dental floss as your hair. This retained the shape of the pellets overnight.

This is what I do when I use pellets for bait for carp, chub and barbel, although I usually use 8mm pellets.

I find lassoing them on with a slip knot make them last longer rather than drilling them out

All of the below. Soaking in oil will also prolong the life as well as putting a topper like fake corn on the hair to prevent a small hair stop being pulled through the bait
