Looking to use the same bait for Carp & Barbel. Leaning towards ABS Baits Hydro K.
Anyone have any recommendations on either of these baits for Barbel please?

I'd give Geoff a call. I know there's been a lot of both caught on the Malarkey with Frankfurter, but he's the best person to ask...

Thanks for your help I have emailed ABS about Malarky with Frankfurter. I have used standard Malarky before for Carp and it worked well. But never tried it on the river for Barbel.

Any decent Fishmeal bait.
I use RG Baits Arctic Crab and Prime for Carp and Barbel in the Autumn.

I use DNA on the Trent, SLK and Bug mixed (used to use the S7 too but just fancied a change to the Bug), alongside the pellet range and hydros. Catch my fair share and don't worry about bait now tbh, had some nice Carp from the river too.

Probably unrelated, but my mate has fished the Trent for 45 years and never caught a Carp, he's also never used a boilie. He catches 250+ Barbel a season though, but he is retired...

I do a lot of barbel fishing and honestly, anything that catches carp will catch barbel also in the right conditions and I'm not talking just fish meals either.

A group of anglers on the Thames did very well on geoffs mcnut mix last season targeting barbel. Barbel love milk proteins, especially bigger barbel in less densely populated rivers so don't ignore baits with a high proportion of milks also.

Barbel far more than carp fishing often comes down to the river conditions. On low clear rivers maggots and small pellets will nearly always out catch anything and you often won't get a sniff on any boilie.

100%. During the daytime in clear water I don't even put a boilie on anymore, it's 8mm pellets or maggots for me. As soon a dusk arrives it's like a switch has been flicked.

Yes in the clear summer days maggot or casters are king with hemp. But in the dark boilies are my go to bait.
Think I am going for ABS baits Hydro K due to the high leakage and mix of fish meals and milk proteins for the Barbel and Carp.

I am big fan of ABS baits - but i couldn't catch a barbel on Hydra K. Malarky and GNZ caught well though.
