This catch at all costs mentality is bang outta order, and fisheries shouldn´t condone such practice. Bartlett smashing a hole in the ice, infront of his rods, then pushing his bushwacker under the ice, all the way to the island
What happens when the hole in the ice infront of the rods freezes over, then a 40 or 50 picks up the hookbait and dashes off. This could indeed cause the mainline(just off the rod tip) to snap, leaving a trophy carp swimming around under the ice, trailing 30 or 40yds of mainline, before getting snagged up somewhere 
Bad angling by 2 so-called "high profile anglers". Fish in open water, and if risk of a lid forming, reel in and go home ffs

I agree but I found it funny that you specifically say "40 or 50" and "trophy carp". Carp fishing is hilarious nowadays.
Personally i was very amused by bartlett saying that the tree trunk fitted perfectly into the new avid holdall, can't leave home without one!
As i tend to watch these while doing other stuff, i missed the bush wacker bit. That sounds a bit dodgy to me. But i have done quite a bit of under the ice fishing when younger and as long as you keep a bit of an ice hole things mostly go ok.

Watched a few of these and usually they are bearable , this one I thought same as op and tbh turned it off ., bit pointless and not setting a good example for new starters etc . Just my opinion n all that 🤷🏼♂️

Why go at all fishing in those conditions, you'd have to be a epic sad sack to have nothing more of importance or interest in during the time of such conditions it just reeks of desperation to me I'm afraid, but I suppose my perspective maybe coloured by actually having a life and just assuming everyone's the same.

Well it's their job so. They'd probably rather doing something else but it's work. Same for any outdoor workers when it's cold.

That´s what these "high profile anglers" are there for tbh 40s 50s trophy carp for the media. Go through all that hassle and brave the cold, for a 20 or wrong´un That´s "their" mentality, to get the job done properly with a "proper" fish
Personally, carp of any size have their charm, but each to their own. C1s to C7s can easily be replaced, by fisheries, but the older, larger individuals are the ones that draw in the punters, and this type of bad angling.

Because it's the job, in that case why doesn't the golf course grounds keeper still have a crack at mowing the greens after a snow blanket a foot deep, sorry bit your reply to my post is very shallow minded.
maybe you'll have no objections them fishing for spawning fish then with it being the job and a outdoor one at that.

Never said I condone the techniques they are using. You said they have no lives so I simply reminded you that it's their job to go fishing. It's not just a hobby like it is for most of us. They could have just found a lake that wasn't frozen over but they didn't which is a bit odd.
It's funny you pick a job like a green keeper and think they just shut up shop for winter. Golf courses are open all year round, and winter is maintenance time. Just follow some golf courses on social media and you'll see them amount of work they do over winter.

They go fishing for a living, they have to go. You can't attack them on a personal level saying they have no lives, etc because of they go fishing in the cold. It's their job.
