Going back to fluro this year. It's been a long time since i last spooles up with it (15 plus years i reckon). Back then it was pretty much X line or nothing. Now a days there's loads out there. Are they all the same, one thing i can remember with x line was on my old shimano and my light rods with 30mm ringing it didn't cast well. What's everyone recommend these days.

Xline still the best for me. I've tried some of the rest, Gardner Mirage, Berkeley CF, Tiger and Korda and Xline still beats them for the way it behaves, reliability and VFM (for me).
Flouro will never cast nicely through a 30mm ring off a small spool, but it's benefits outweigh this in some cases. If you want distance I'd use braid with an Xline leader 5/6 turns round the spool.

cant go wrong with the korda fluro - kontour , can work our pricey but if you look after it should last a good few seasons ! they have now brought out different breaking strains

I've tried to use fluro as a mainline a bunch of times, and it just causes too many problems for me.
Instead I mostly use braided mainline, (hydrosink noir) and around 10-15ft of gardner mirage..
I use an Alberto or allbright knot to join them,

I have used the Korda fluro in 18lb for three sessions this winter but my fishing has been curtailed due to a family member's illness. In those sessions I have caught fish to mid twenties so hat ticks a box. Yes it casts like a bag of spanner's but I only need to let 13 wraps max, it sinks well. I clean through a microfibre at the end of each session, a tip I got on another thread on the forum was to stretch it at the beginning of each session and the application of greased lightening does go some way to helping with the casting. I need to use it a lot more to give a better opinion but early stages it's promising.

like this man says just stretch it at the begining of a session, gets all the twists out, especially if you then reel it in without anything on the end a few times. bit of a faff but if i have the time it makes it much better behaved. After a few sessions i feel flouro settles down almost. Needs more looking after but it does have benifits

If I was to use again then X-Line 20lb would be my choice again, it done all that I wanted for my edge fishing at the time.

I've tried a few and currently using this now for cost, strength, they are all much of a muchness.. With Xline you get a lot more for your money.

Tigerline is by far the best Iv used, tried a few others but always gone back to it. gardener have taken over the business so it is the same stuff just different packaging.

I've found the Korda stuff in 12lb to be the best. Don't let the breaking strain put you off could tow cars with the stuff!

I use x line in 20lb as well. Sinks amazing which is what I want fluorocarbon to do. It casts like . I give it a good stretch before casting and this helps but it is still very limited. I would say it's usable up to 70-80 yards range max.
