Long story short. i went in 2004 with a friend, only reason we went was my friends son lived out there. we were based in Fairbanks and just travelled around by car. No carp but salmon and trout we went in september and they had just spawned and the rivers were absolutely heaving with them. but they were tricky to catch as they were spent having just spawned.
But the lakes were good for trout on a lure. The good thing about it was that as long as you bought a state fishing licence you could rock up just about anywhere and fish. and there is no shortage of spectacular lakes and rivers. we drove up the Dalton highway and fished the Yukon river and went a fair way up into the Arctic circle.
Watch out for the wildlife we saw plenty of mouse, porcupines and several bears.
we went unguided and just winged it

"Base camp!! What has carp fishing become"
"wannabe campers with rods"
but seriously, mate of mine did it a while back, reckons it was mind blowing scenery and best fishing trip he ever went on.
just be careful of the bears when you need to go for a tommy tit.

One of the most dangerous places on earth.
Google "the Alaska triangle"
And then Google how many people go missing there every year, mind blowing.
