Some advice needed guys on the above.
Once you have clipped up on your chosen spot on your leading rod with braid and counted out on the distance sticks etc, now when your counting out on the baited rod that is spooled with mono are you going under the distance accounting for the stretch in the mono as I should imagine you would be gaining a few extra feet if marking exactly the same as the leading rod?

Just mark up the same, I don't think you get much if any stretch from casting a lead. The line stretches when connected to a fish not falling off a spool on the cast.

I could be wrong.

I always cast a little short of the mark, or baited area, to avoid any lines going through the bed of bait.
It is said the larger fish will pick food from the perimeter of a baited area, smaller fish perhaps less cautious will head for the center.

In theory, if you clip your rods up to the same length that you're spodding to, the lead should arc down and land on the front edge of the baited area. Depending on the distance you're fishing and depth of course, wouldn't work in 40ft of water.

You could always step forward so it goes further
Take a step back and it drops shorter etc
Will also get a bigger table for them to feed on

yep, taking a step back was my usual method.
