Anyone to advise how far you can throw baits with theese things? I was looking at get bait pole but I don't think that work well for the river.. would be looking at using particles ( hemp or pigeon conditioner with tigers) with some vitalin added to the mix to make sure it drops to the river bed and I'm trying to avoid taking a spod rod.

You don't need to have a spod rod
You can get away with your regular fishing rod in MOST circumstances
Just use a smaller spod or even a bait dropper and it's good to go

20-25 foot, I often use a scoop to bait up on the rivers but it's not accurate and be aware you'll deposit a big spread, which I like.
Be careful what pole you use the scoop on, I actually use a storm pole as I think you'll ruin most net poles!

Add some groundbait, roll it into balls and chuck it out by hand?

25 yards or so you could under arm a large spomb size on a regular rod as lng as it's not a 2.5 tc

I have an extendable landing net pole for close in work on lakes but it is a heavy duty one.
But if I was launching it out distance I would use a storm pole as mentioned if you don't want to use a fishing rod

I wouldn't be using a "long throwing stick" with different size particles, the tigers would go miles and the hemp/seeds would go in the edge. A better solution as mentioned is to use them in groundbait balls and throw 'em in by hand.

I had a storm pole totally fold up on me trying to put groundbait out with a spoon. Ironically one of my landing net poles is the 5'-6" pole Gardner sold for using with a spoon.

Thats a great tactic, Although i launch em out with a wide pouch catapult, 40 yards is easy and i imagine lots of little piles of bait out there how can the fish resist. I normally just make mine with mixed pellet, crushed and whole boilies, hemp and a bit of water or liquid . I also do this at the end of the session to try to condition em to accept the little piles as safe. the reality is probably the birds get most of it but it makes me happy

I used to fish the itchen in Southampton and I used a spod/spomb and just swung it out no need to cast far,as said use a storm pole or a long bank stick a baiting pole will be all over place if there's a current,you could freeze the baits and they will go further by hand and melt nice and slowly.
Used to bait up with vitalin and then spomb corn and birdfood mix out towards a nice little corner but near some over hanging trees.
My favourite method was balls of ground bait the night or morning before and then just leave it to settle in I used to put 20 plus golf ball size in and you'd be surprised how quick you'd get a bite I've had fish straight after I've cast in my first rod,even had a lovely old 14lb mirror in January and it was -5 and it was over loads of bait they have to keep moving in the current so use up more energy than lake carp

If there is any flow on the water you will need a small or medium spopper.
Like a modern bait dropper, it's a weighted spomb that opens on contact with the river bed and ensures all the feed goes where you want it.
