Yes, another thread about 10ft rods, sorry.

So my son has started using my 10ft setup so I was considering replacing it. To be honest, the rods were functional but not ideal - they were Daiwa 3lb tc, but I only needed them for small waters which covered a small percentage of my fishing.

So I thought it's a good opportunity to upgrade to something better. My main rods that I use are 12ft 2lb tc from the 80's which I love using. They were rebuilt in 2017 and have a 25mm butt ring, 2 rings on the butt section, 9 rings in total and bend properly through to the butt - they are Armalites Mk I. Basically, they are everything that modern carp rods aren't.

So, the question I have is does a 10ft off the shelf rod exist with these characteristics? Maximum 30mm butt ring, 8 guides minimum on the blank with a proper thru action. Don't want a custom built. My slim budget is £200 for 3 rods, £250 max at a push. Some rods come close but not quite right - Wychwood Extricator (too stiff), PB Products do a couple (only 6 rings), Prologic C1 Old Skool (can't find anything about this online).

Any suggestions?

Edit - ideally 2lb - 2.5lb tc.

Not used them but other rods in the range have good feedback -

And for £51.99 ea and a full cork handle whats not to like! No dramas for that price if you don't get on with them . . .give TB a ring first and they'll advise on actions etc

The only thing I can add to that is that the reel seats are poor.
I have a pair of 11ft twin tops from that range..the metal part of the seat is flimsy and the plastic liner underneath has split. This is on a pair of rods that have been used very little and have only ever had the reels removed twice and refitted since purchase. Fuji quality they are not ! Shame as the rest of the rods are good quality , Oh except for the rod sleeve but that is not relevant in my case as the rods are stored in a dedicated holdall.

Nash Dwarf very nice fish playing on them 7 guides and cast very well (2.75lb feels like most custom 2.5lb rods), i use now the Daiwa cast'izm 10ft 3lb cork but would still fish with the dwarf if i still had them

Outside of the price, the Armalite 10ft is the perfect rod for what you describe

Shimano do a TX2 in 10ft 2.75 . . .on your budget at £75 ea - no idea about 10ft girls rods but the 12' are excellent for the £

Shimano Tx-2 10ft is **** at fish playing, it's stiff compared to Dwarf/Daiwa/Sonik 10ft rods

Agreed .....add to that...... overhanging trees, tight swims.
I'd far rather use a 12 ft rod if able.

How often is that 'actually' a problem? In the rare occurences it has I've just knelt when casting

If using 10ft rods was a real 'thing' then I'd be using them for barbel / river fishing where swims are much tighter / awkward - fact is I dont and 12' rods work just fine there as well!

Nash marketing = dwarf = sell more stuff you probably dont need

Marketing or not the Dwarfs are decent rods and price is oke

I don't give a **** about brands as long as it's good, Nash has a lot of junk but the Dwarf models from 2020 are not one of them.

Since fishing with 10ft rods I no longer see the need to use 12ft or i have to fish beyond 95yard, but 90% I fish on channels now so I barely have to fish beyond 95m

10ft i have used so far:

Fs Ctx 10ft 2.75lb
Dwarf 10ft 3lb
Daiwa Cast izm 10ft 3lb (the are also in 2.5lb)
Sonik extractor 10ft 3lb
Shimano tx 2 10ft 3lb

The Shimano and Fs Ctx was just not fun at all to land a carp with, Dwarf with 7 guides have a nice bend the 3lb felt more like most 2.5 rod, Daiwa is a step higer but price is also x 2 even in 3lb it have a nice bent and dont feel stiff the dwarf felt abit softer but the Daiwa is more stable in the tip and cast a little more accurately, I recommend the Sonik over the Tx-2 and Ctx, but for those few Euro/pound more the Dwarf is a better choice.

The Ctx was the biggest disappointment, the new shinny blacks are diffrent compared to the old matt ones

Completely different situation imo as you need the extra length to keep more line out of the water when river fishing. I find 10ft is the ideal length for my carp fishing but I wouldn't choose a retractable type rod.
