So after many years of fishing, i had the dreaded one of a micro Barbed hook go through my finger last night! Upon unhooking the fish, it rolled over the line whilst in the net and in went the hook, luckily (or unluckily) it went straight through! I do have quick change bits but the fish was still lively proving a little difficult to sort out. Having had some cutter with me i was able to cut the end off and painfully pull it out and that was the end of my trip - No idea what the fish weighed just slipped it straight back🤦♂️
Just got me thinking about what other mishaps others have had whilst out on the bank....

As a kid I got a baiting needle through my thumb whilst trying to push it through a hard hookbait. One of the gated ones. Snapped the end off and pulled it out, a makeshift bandage and carried on. Probably the worst one I've had.

A friend miscast on to an island, he did the hand line bit, lead came free hit him straight in the mouth ,split lip and busted teeth, and very expensive, painful trip to a dentist.
Me,worst fishing injury ,is ripped internal core, getting up fast on a cheap copy of a wychwood tactical bedchair, 6 months off of work and no money..however,I decided to get fit as I could after..so ..

fishing a pit in the colne valley a few years ago in the height of summer....
mozzies were a nightmare so cracked up a few mozzie coils around my brolly and let them burn away into the night.
no mozzies at all but woke up about 2am with an absolute horrific headache and was projectile vomining for a good hour
the smoke was blowing into the brolly and it really messed me up.
never again using them coils
on another trip - i managed to shut my thumb in the van door.... proper mega pain and ended up drilling my nail with a boilie drill to relieve the pressure
fecking dangerous game this fishing

Not me but my dad - we were piking, I landed a low double which was hooked with both sets of semi-barbed (one barbed point). My dad popped out the first treble, whilst getting the second out the fish went nuts, the barbed point of the loose treble got him bang between his thumb and forefinger.
After clipping the trace, unhooking and returning the pike and accepting we couldn't get it out with snipped it off and fished on for a few hours.
Popped to A+E on the way home who finally accepted they couldn't pull it out (after a dam good try) and proceeded to push it through, however they didn't seem to realise it was curved so it didn't really follow the planned path and instead eventually exited half way up his finger. Hand was a right mess the next day with the swelling.

Jesus,
don't give up your day job
Jesus,
I saw a guy have a 3oz lead hit him straight in the gentleman's area.He was pulling for a break in really shallow water, there was a loud crack and then he just dropped to the floor. His mate was crying with laughter,he thought his mate was messing around until he saw the lead on the floor and the guy was screaming whilst cupping his tackle

Broke my metatarsal whilst attending a Carpforum social, then had to drive 90 miles home. Leg in plaster for 10 weeks.

Remember a bloke down my local in the 90s did this with a masssive barbed needle, you could see the point behind the nail as he'd pushed at a right angle to his thumb, about 20 minutes of crying about it and he just yanked it out. There was a bit of blood

Similar to this; rig got completely weeded up and so started the process of dragging the entire lot back towards the bank. Rod bent double and line stretched when unexpectedly the whole lot pinged free. I saw it coming like a bullet and it whacked me just under the eye. As I was falling backwards I saw a huge arc of blood spurting out and when I eventually got up the blood was absolutely gushing out. I was on my own at a fairly isolated lake so didn't have much choice but to call 999.
When I got to A&E it was like Moses parting the Red Sea; people just backing away because I must've looked like I'd just stepped out of a war zone.
10 stitches, fractured cheek bone and a massive black eye, though still consider myself lucky. It could have hit me straight in the eye, or like your mate, in the mouth. Pretty unthinkable really.
Feeling so sorry for myself I bunked off work next day, went straight back into the same swim and caught a 20+ Common. Decent bit of therapy.
I still have the lead - one side of it is flat. There's also still bloodstains on my luggage.

Wow,that is very nasty, lucky about your eye as well..
I had a good friend who lived over at Honiton,Dunkeswell,he grew up in an idyllic life in some ways ,thatched cottage, home grown vegetables etc,..
One day he came to stay with me,and we went crucian fishing,on a farm pond..We or I should say my friend was using a huge 1970s/80s early hearing aid powered float, when the red LED,joined together in the dark was time to strike..so a few fish each, and its now 1am,I hear this ,Ad,Ad..help ,so I've gone over to see him,and he's double pinned his eyelids together on a ,I think a size 20 au lion d or ,hook..,trying to recast..
Had to go and find a phone box..

Here's another..
It's 30 years ago,and even then I liked minimal,I bought a huge army external framed rucksack, under the main body ,the exo skeleton, is a gap to fit a feather, central zip sleeping bag, with a sweat inducing rubberised ,waterproof base..
This rucksack was proper heavy..
Over the road from me,or ,it's now closed was a brilliant second hand shop, and for one pound fifty pence I bought a second hand early pair of walking boots..with a wicked looking grip, perfect for Crowdy ,or other ressis..
So,off I go ,almost one carry ,to the swim on this lake I helped to set up ,I started walking down the slope, half way down ,the super grip on these boots ,failed and I landed in my cockyx..
Long story short, only three years ago I managed to get realigned,I was several mm,out...and oh the pain on that day. !!
