Anyone got a sensibly priced Spod Soup recipe? Also, how much do I need if fishing a prolific venue for 24hrs?

If keeping a constant cloud in the water is your aim then at the very least 3 large buckets.

Take it powdered and then you can mix as much or as little as you need.

You can use semi skimmed milk powder but any lamb milk replacer is better as full of sugar!

10kg of dry mix

2kg brown breadcrumb
3kg lamb milk replacer
2kg ground expander pellets
1kg crushed hemp
1kg 2mm carp pellets
1kg krill powder

That should all easier come to under 35 quid and will make loads of slop.

Now is a bucket, to mix as you fish ( using volumes, I suggest a litre jug - a quid in Tesco

1ltr mixed powder

200ml oil ( hemp is best ) topped up to a litre with lake water

Then add water gradually to achieve a slop consistency you like - something like a thick custard is best, too sloppy it won't get out there.

Lastly, by far a tradition spod beats a spomb for this style of fishing, taped up, it's basically slows the release of the soup and you give the rod tip a few flicks to get it going.

There's way better out there and loads of wafers to improve it but the mix described with cloud the upper layers well and stimulate feeding, the 2mm pellet will draw fish up like a pellet waggled effect

Supermarket sweep....Creamed corn, condensed milk or evaporated milk and own brand Ready Brek, add a bit of crushed hemp and some casters if needed. Dirt cheap and works well. Get yourself a Spider spod, Wolf x spomb, leak proof and cast well

5kg of cheapest porridge oats.
2kg of corn
1 jar of custard powder
5kg of hemp.

big bucket
oats in
4-5 FULL kettles of water boiling
leave an hour
4-5 kettles cold water

let this soak until the oats are like mush.

Blend 3kg of hemp
blend 1kg of corn

combine in bucket with custard powder, blended stuff and the remaining hemp and corn.

well done, you have now made the drayton mix.

youll make this for less than 15quid for over 20kg of bait.

Always thought milk caused oxygen depletion in the water as it's broken down. Is this not the case with powders?

I've only seen 3 papers speaking of this, and it would seem the research is in its infancy, as the research is aimed towards slurry - where milk going into storage when disposed of and eventually sprayed into fields. The problem seems to be the high organic content, so I'd say different milk powders that have been processed in different ways will....well differ.

From an American article it seemed when I read it that you do need quite a high concentration all at once ? Like far more than an angler could spod for any harm to occur?

I think it's like the salt argument. A small amount is ok but start putting tonnes into a small volume of water then you will have a real issue.
Not likely to be a problem in a large water with a windswept surface.

Its more complex than the salt issue but to be fair If anyo of the whey proteins or milk powders we used in baits were derogatory towards water quality Im surei t would have been flagged by now.

I agree to the extent that I don't know enough to be able to show the science behind it, however. I think it's not a good idea on a mass basis

I can see milk powders in the volumes used for rolled baits, and therefore slowly released, may be fine.
But adding it en masse as part of multiple buckets of wet spod mix at a time when weed growth is likely to be higher (and oxygen naturally lower) is not a risk I'd take.
I also wouldn't use salt as a stand-alone ‘bait' but happy to use products with naturally occurring salts. Bit like my kids can have fresh OJ but not Coca Cola. Though saying that I question the morality of marine fishmeals in bait and until somebody can provide evidence of their bait containing FM from sustainable farmed sources I avoid using it. Who the hell we think we are depleting oceanic stock feeding fish that themselves are not even natural always troubled me

It's more so liquid milk and for example dropping a pint in won't kill a lake but if a tanker spills in to a lake then you're looking at a serious incident. Unless you're tipping in a sack of a milk powder directly in to a lake then no need to worry.
It's something to do with the calcium stimulating microbial actions. Hence siltex (calcium carbonate or CHALK powder) being used to clear silt. This has an oxygen demand obviously. Don't think it's entirely this reason and there is a few others but this is a large part of it.

clouds the water column up lovely, lots of sweeteners in it as well.

you asked for a cheap good mix, thats what i use when we have our annual summer match on drayton, smashes them up on there.
Are you sure?

This action cannot be undone.
