I've just counted and I have 58 pots of different pop ups and wafters - Just old of hand now!
Who else a silly amount and are you going to clear them out?

I used up most of my old pop ups when using Ian russel's flick rig. If you haven't used it, it's great in the right circumstances.

Have well over 100 pots I've collected probably closer to 150 pots. I'm a sucker for a pot of hookbaits 😩 did have a clear out of about 40 pots a while ago and in my bait box it looks no different

Any ones I have left over I blend them up and add them to my stick mix so hopefully they rise slowly in the water columns

A couple in a bit of mesh nicked on the hook work nicely; always come off and give you something to aim at when the hit the surface

Please no one do this. Some of the ingredients within pop ups are harmful to the environment and should never be allowed to enter tge waterways untethered. Even when throwing baits away after a fish etc just use your waste bin.

Mozzi, I'm glad you have bought this to light. So you are saying that every pop up bait on sale is harmful to the environment? They should NEVER be allowed to enter the waterways because they are so dangerous?
Surely something must be done? Maybe warning labels on every pot of pop ups on sale so that people know that pop ups contain ingredients that are harmful to the environment.
Perhaps you could use your contacts in the industry to get these measures into place before it's too late?

A few hear or there isn't going to effect things but I see a lot of people throw old hookbaits in the margins / use for PVA foam type applications and stick mixes and it's just not cricket really.
Yes, I'd say 99% of air all pop ups like mentioned do contain components that's aren't cleared for feed / where you'll have a warning about it entering the environment en mass. It's designed to be encapsulateled and reduce the density of thinks like plastics, building fillers etc.
I can't force through legislations anymore than you. You'll notice on a lot of packs they say “buoyancy aid” and that's one of four products. None are great in the environment.
Cork is better but not always ideal in fluorocarbon as it darkens them.
It's just common sense and consideration for where you're fishing isn't it?

Nah mate more wide spread than ever, those who've “moved on” from glass spheres are using spheres made of equally if not even worst environmental credentials.
You can add things like krill meal / ground up floating pellets etc to a pva bag and use foam or pva bags of dig mixes in flick rig bags etc. Or the wifey avaliable corn starch nuggets if sight is an issue.
People mock it ( not you ) but even the most minute actions build up and cause a greater effect in the long run, the more we can do to responsibly care for the environment the better.

That's always good to know thanks, bluebeat13 is not the only guilty one to use a popup as a marker for presentation as I've done this in a past.

Done it myself after taking them off at the end of a session.
Put it in the tackle box, and add it to a stringer or bag next session.
I had far too many tubs of pop-ups:
Monster Crab, Squid and Octopus, Strawberry Ice cream, Scopex, Plum, Pineapple N-butyric, Aniseed, Tutti-Frutti, Spiced Garlic, Raspberry and Black Pepper, Krill and Garlic, and more.
Of those listed 3 or 4 caught most but with that the first 2 were mostly used as the topper on a snowman baits over my food bait. The Pineapple and the Spiced Garlic are the other Catchers.
Mozzi,
Do you have any info regarding buoyancy 'ingredients' in pop-up mixes from bait companies?
I normally used to get my base mix, sieve it and add an amount of sodium caseinate to make my own pop-ups.

i use my old ones to cast out a rig rather than pva nuggets, 2 in a mesh bag and cast out.
no chance of it not melting or staying on.
plus i like the site marker that i can use as a target for baiting up.
