Looking for recommendations for a quality spod reel, one that will take a lot of stick & braid friendly line clip

Shimano ultegra spod reel...excellent for the job, and very good retrieval rate, which helps if spombing at range ...

Ultegra spod gets my vote as well, quality workhorse reel. It will last u ages u wont have to worry

Had the daiwa spod reel a few years, had lots of use for carp and pike spombing very good always

I agree with the others, Ultegra Spod they have 3 line clips and will take the abuse, I found the ultegra much nicer to use than the Diawa

Ultegra spod is smoother lighter and has a better retrieve than the Daiwa, better line lay as well... I have both but if the other daiwa breaks will certainly replace it with the shimano, much better reel IMO

You could do a hell of a lot worse than these in 6500 (for its retrieve) The 5500 could make a good fishing reel, haven't seen one in the flesh

I've used the old Daiwa Emblem spod reel for ages now - has good line-lay, so it casts well and mine gets a lot of use, often has crap all over it - especially when spoding over zigs and it just keeps on trucking. I'm sure there are better reels out there for spodding, but mine is very reliable, does the job, so no reason to upgrade/change it. Would probably look to the new Emblem spod or Ultegra reel if I did. A couple of mates have those and seem happy...

The 6500 is better than the Shimano for its waterproofing, though the Shimano is better on the retrieval, the Shimano being 124mm Vs the Penn 107mm, oh, and the Shimano is lighter too.

Daiwa emblem spod reel. Had 2 for prob 10 years now. Other than a bent bail arm which I did they have been faultless.

Had an emblem spod, hated it, heavy cumbersome thing which if the bailarm wasn't I the perfect place snapped back over on some casts resulting in a crack off or two.
Had the wychwood dispatch, quite good for the money, little niggly thing like handle coming lose every other cast though.
That got stolen and I've just bought an avid xr spod marker reel and yet to loaf it with braid but has a massive 138cm retrieve!...feels pretty solid and well made only time will tell if it lasts. I paid 60 quid from go outdoors.

I use a Shimano XTA 7000 spod reel on both my 9ft and 12ft set ups.
Does the job and although discontinued, it can be picked up off ebay from time to time for about 50-70 pound.
