Does anybody filter lake water to drink whilst at the lake?

I just got one of the sawyer mini filters mentioned in another thread
It's a lot smaller and lighter than my life saver bottle
Haven't had chance to use it yet

I've got an MSR waterworks that I had been using for years, although I've switched over to lugging tap water around as I was sick of the pumping.
I will move back over to using a water purifier again, and this is the one I'll be getting... MSR AutoFlow™ XL Gravity Filter 10 L and add an extra bag to store the filtered water in.

I've got an MSR one, but never had the balls to use it, last place in the world you wanna be with ****$ is fishin 😝.... Sure it would be fine though, boiled as well maybe even add some purification tablets as an extra measure....

A rolling boil for 1 minute kills everything. Can add iodine but tastes like crap.

We used what was then called a 'Piggyback' filter for a 1 week session in France, back in the 90's. It was basically a collection bucket underneath another bucket with a ceramic/charcoal filter the size of a can of pop
Inbetween. It worked but we were fishing a silty lake with quite a lot of suspended sediment which would clog the outer ceramic filter to the point we were having to scrub it frequently, otherwise the flow rate was useless.
The collected water always had that 'earthy taste, not noticeable in coffee but for everything else
I'd personally be very wary of companies claims unless the water going in is of decent quality.

Certainly.does. for safety's sake, boil for at least 2 to 3 mins so as to super safe. Please research and don't take mine or anyone elses word for it 👍
You can always just buy something like the MSR Guardian that gets rid of everything and you don't have to worry about boiling, just add chlorine tabs to get rid of that woody taste if that's your bag.

Just in from a session..
Used my sawyer mini filter,I'm still alive and no after effects,although on this occasion, I used a rifled pocket area to fill my bag,ie oxygenated water from the river nearby,I have drunk from this lake next to the river many times,and even used a millbank filter, with no serious after effects,although I boiled it,with the sawyer I just use it straight..
I also had a water to go filter bottle ,I would not recommend that system..
