Has anyone used this? If it does what it says it would save me a lot of flaffing about with vices etc.

Just a copy of the Gardner point doctor by the looks of it and they're not very good either when trying to sharpen without a firm vice.

As Ian said copy of the Gardner although they do advertise using it in a different way. Rather than running the product along the hook like a traditional file they say to put the point into it and wiggle it side to side to sharpen the point.

Got to admit I'm old fashioned but I don't get needing a vice to sharpen a hook.
Hook sharpening stones work perfectly well, you may have to run them over the point more times but you can get the point stupidly thin if you want. My stone is probably 20-30 years old, my only critique is that it could be thinner to work the inside of the point more easily and to do hooks sub 8, but each to their own.
EDIT, ref to stone is because GPD is used in a similar way.

My suspicion would be that sticking a hook into something abrasive and wiggling it will not give anything like a sharp point.

Don't think it'd take to cutting it's only about 9mm thick, think it'd probably snap if ground down thinner. You can use the angled edges to get inside but I got to admit those new diamond type files look a lot easier to use, but I'm partial to my old stone and it'd feel like cheating on it

I have a similar product called the GOM (bought through internet), not a product to get a fine point but if you put the hook into the GOM and rotate it will put a sharpness back to a dull hook. If your fishing for the fish of a life time and need a needle sharp hook probably better off using a file and vice. If on the other hand your looking to touch up a hook on a well stocked water this type of product is certainly useful.

I use already sharp hooks out the pack the rigworx X hooks, but I use one of these to maintain the point between sessions or catches if needed! I think they're decent, definitely does the job
