Fishing up to 140 yards , prefer no leader

For 140 you need tapered mainline if you dont want to crack off regularly imo.

Because if you are genuinely casting 140 plus with lead, bait and rig you need some form of shock leader because you are at or above the limits of 12/15 lb mono, a clumsy cast, any unseen damage to the line, repeated stress, nicks etc and you will get crack offs. If you can't or don't use a separate leader tapered mainline provides safety both for other anglers and to prevent leaving live rigs in the lake.

Plenty of waters with leader bans and guys casting these distances and beyond with 18lb xt straight through.

Repeated stress. This is something I have wondered about. How many big casts do people do before you cut off 2 or 3 rod lengths to avoid cracking off?
