Not sure if it's already been mentioned but I went into the TackleBox the other day and noticed Korda have started using cardboard packaging for some of their ready tied rigs 😃

Not that I use ready tied rigs so may of missed this before in other tackle shops I've been in recently? But this seems like a step in the right direction to try and cut down on plastic waste.

I'd imagine the TackleBox have a high turnover of Korda stock and some of the ready tied's were in the plastic packaging so just wondered if this was a new thing from Korda and if so hopefully other tackle firms will start to follow suit

Good news

Said it for a while, I wish all companies would ditch the plastic

Years ago hooks could be bought in waxed paper with a tracing paper type window, can't see the problem doing it nowadays myself especially with the environmental impact. As technology moves on there has to be suitable replacements

Environment, number 1. Hope everybody else's follows suit, makes total sense to me

Fox did it with the blacklabel bank ware unfortunately the gear inside wasn't much stronger than the cardboard .I saw someone in a shop the other day buy a new Jag set up and the amount of packaging was ridiculous,it looks nice but surely there has got to be a better option

Yes there is. Buy more jag stuff to put in your spare empty packaging. Simples.

Fair play to them. It far more likely to attract my quids than any of the aggressive promotion in the shows I watch.

I've always been of the belief that anglers should be more environmentally aware and considerate given the time we spend in the open spaces

Try telling this to the Ladies fashion industry.

I have a van filled to the top 6 days a week with absolute cheap tat...all in a plastic bag with another plastic bag inside it.

With a cheap dress in it which will be in landfill within weeks if not days.

A collective effort required I feel

I believe they call that ‘fast fashion'

I saw a group of university student girls interviewed a few months ago. I think it was when that Greta Iceberg was banging on about saving the planet. Anyway these girls all said they wouldn't risk the shame of being seen out in the same outfit twice. They openly admitted they went out three nights a week and just wore something once. The mind boggles.

Didn't thinking anglers start switching to cardboard a while back?

As someone who buys end tackle in bulk lots, it's pretty disgusting the amount of packaging. I buy a lot more from the likes of bank tackle for this reason.
50 hooks from bank tackle= one small plastic bag
50 gardner crv= 5 clear plastic wrappers, 5 rigid plastic boxes, 5 rigid plastic hook retainers

Im still using gardner and atomic hooks over bank tackle ones, but you really see the difference when you buy 50 of two types of swivels, 50 rig rings, 20 bore rings, beads, tail rubbers.....
Oh, and not paying for that packaging saves a fortune too

Got to agree when I bought my jag pod every single bit was inside its own plastic box, then all the plastic boxes where kept inside one big plastic box the amount of waste you have after opening it was crazy

But inside the box is usually a plastic bag over the item

Something I have been saying for years, unbelievable amount of plastic is being used in angling "green" industry... I have seen Forge is doing proper paper packaging on their end tackle now...

I think the flashy plastic packaging is mostly there to catch the angler but I'm sure it's not to difficult to make a decent looking packaging out of more friendly materials. Not that the packaging should make any difference as it's the product you are buying

Much of the hard to open plastic packaging was to prevent shoplifting, then many tackle shops would add their strip tags to stop the whole pack walking out the door.

Packaging for years has been a problem, at least hard plastic is recyclable, whereas soft crumple plastic isn't.
Cardboard is recyclable.

Something I found a few weeks ago, not related to fishing tackle, but Percol sell coffee in plastic free, compostable bags. I wonder if carrier bags, even tackle brands could start doing the same.

Kevin Nash made a comment on a podcast recently about plastic being better for the earth than cardboard, due to trees being cut down for modern packaging. His argument revolved around plastic not being at fault, but our management of it being the problem.

Well Kev, we can't mange plastic waste, so now what's the best way of packing terminal tackle?
Are you sure?
